My mom frequently complains about the wear and tear on my childhood home. It’s true, our house looks less polished than it did years ago. However, the wear and tear are evidence of the lives that have been lived in that home. This is what Allie Crummy describes in her song “This House”. In a society that values looking clean, polished, and perfect no matter what, it can be easy to lose sight of the truth that Crummy depicts so artfully in her lyrics: to be loved is to be changed. The footprints and stains are evidence of life and evidence of love.
The track begins with a bouncy bass and groovy guitar melody. The vocals sneak in beautifully and softly over the instrumental that create a mellow yet enticing feeling for Crummy’s listeners. In the chorus she begins stacking vocal harmonies and demonstrating impressive musical abilities while simultaneously creating a stunning experience within this song. The balance with the bass, light percussion, and synths compose this fantastic musical project. “Experience” is the best way to describe this track, as you will carry this song with you following the first time you listen, or rather experience, it.
Allie Crummy is a musician based in Des Moines, Iowa. She has described her work as being of the indie-folk genre, saying she takes inspiration from the blues, pop, and soul genres. She also works as an audio engineer and producer, using her wonderful skills with various artists in the recording studio. She has released four studio albums, three EPs, and nineteen music videos. Crummy is undeniably an artist of taste and immense skill. She will no-doubt make her mark in the music industry and create a wonderful legacy for herself.
