Hallucinations, electric currents, and lightning strikes make up Skylar Lee’s latest single, “Thunderstruck”. Released June 26th, Lee set off to create a track that brings to life the shocking jolt of a feeling that occurs when you unexpectedly meet The One. They’re “someone who completely short-circuits your reality and leaves you feeling untethered from every instinct you once trusted”, says Lee. The track holds a swirling soundscape that feels like coming out of the fog in a dimly lit club, with lyrics that reference different versions of shocks, both electric and bodily. “Thunderstruck” is upbeat and playful, with positive vibes flowing throughout Lee’s strong vocals. She depicts her theme perfectly, with instrumentals that crash in and out to add to the surprises.

“Thunderstruck” opens with electric synths and a steady drum beat. Lee begins to sing about the kind of person she has always been- certain, self-assured, and unwavering. Until now. Leading into the chorus, she meets the one who throws her off her game. She sings “What the hell has become of me / You shook my grasp on reality / And now I’m shedding all my senses / I’m scared to death fully defenseless”. She wonders if she is hallucinating, not even truly sure if they are real. She struggles with this new feeling, and in the next verse discusses how this is completely unexpected. They were not in her predictions or plan, and she is not quite sure how to handle these feelings. In the bridge, she comes to a positive conclusion, singing “I don’t know what's happening / But guess I’m giving in / Yeah I’m seeing the lightning / But I like it”.

Now based in Nashville, Tennessee, Skylar Lee was born in Allentown, Pennsylvania with music as a constant throughout her childhood. Listening to mainly her mother’s 70s and 80s music, Lee brings elements of all kinds of music into her own writing. In her music, Lee tries her hardest to embrace individuality, and encourage her listeners to do so as well. She states that she “wishes for listeners to feel seen for both who they are now and who they aspire to be”. Her writing has been featured in media such as Rolling Stone, Nashville’s YoCo Nashville on 96.7FM, and ASCAP’s Writers Showcase. “Thunderstruck” joins her plethora of singles on Spotify, dating back to 2019.
