Review: "treehouse therapy" - being anne

In a freeing and euphoric new single, “treehouse therapy” by being anne combines the plot of a girls trip with the feelings of youth and being alive. Her voice is clear and snappy, with a matter of fact tone that is common in her past work. The angsty electric guitar leads the listener throughout the journey that being anne takes herself. Her and her friends take on a roadtrip to a girls trip in a treehouse, in which they find themselves scared of their environment while also facing it head on and healing through it all. They help each other through their breakups, and the lyrics deal with both heartbreak and friendship. Every young woman has experienced this event themselves, and being anne puts every feeling directly into words.

The song starts slow and begins to build as the girls travel on their way. A cymbal crash that mimics the feeling of a breakthrough, and the chorus hits. The first line sets the scene of their trip, and being anne sings, “a treehouse in the middle of nowhere / Did we really book this when we were sober?”. They aren’t exactly thrilled to be in the wilderness like this, but know that their end goal of healing will be achieved, which she explains in the rest of the chorus. The song slows down to allow the bridge to hit listeners hard, and the lyrics recap the goals of this trip. She sings, “We’re running, running / Running out of reasons to cry / Running, running / Running out of reasons to lie / Finding all the reasons to try”.

Currently residing in Hamburg, Germany, being anne is a rising star in the music industry. She has almost 10,000 monthly listeners on Spotify, and has released 6 singles in the past year. She is currently working on her first EP, which listeners eagerly await. Her music style is similar to that of Phoebe Bridgers, Lizzy McAlpine, and Holly Humberstone. Their styles all incorporate a distinct way of story-telling, as well as having a calmer soundscape with instrumentation guiding the listener through the song.
