Nicolette Capua Tug of War Single Photo

In a haunting and emotional new single, Nicolette Capua details the back and forth of a relationship that couldn’t be saved no matter how in love they were. “Tug of War”, released February 21st, is melancholic and slow, highlighting Capua’s rich voice and lyrics that describe just how deep this rift has left her. Relationships that have the highest of highs also have the lowest of lows, and Capua was left saddened to see that, despite the absolute heights they traveled to through this partnership, it inevitably was not built to last. Capua wrote this track one week after she was broken up with, and the freshness of the emotions certainly carry over in the final product.

With just a finger picked guitar line stacked over violins and layered harmonies, the simplicity of the soundscape forces the storyline and vocals to take the main stage, and that they do. Capua perfectly depicts just how heartbreaking it is to lose someone who was once your best friend, and the feeling of watching your relationship dwindle away. She starts by explaining how in love they used to be, opening the track with the lyrics, “We used to drive / We used to fly / I was so caught in the high / We had all and more / Then we hit the floor / I can't tug a war anymore”. Throughout the song, she questions how he could ever want their relationship to end, wondering how they are better off separate than together. The track ends with her questioning everything, and finally accepting that their time has come. Capua sings, “Was it all worth losing? / Are you feeling home yet? / Now that I'm miles away from Carolina / No more point in trying / Like ya said it's all just life / And things change / And we changed”.

22 year old Nicolette Capua was born and raised in Staten Island. She attended Professional Performing Arts High School in New York City, and was a dancer from a young age. Surrounding herself in the arts industry from such an early age has led her with a plethora of skills demonstrated in her music, and her journey has only just begun. With a slew of singles released on streaming services and over 1,000 monthly listeners on Spotify, Capua is making a name for herself in the industry. Quoting influences such as JP Cooper and Jess Glynne, she is growing her brand as an independent pop artist.
