We're in a fascinating spot with country music where it seems to be going back to it's roots of being more folk with a hard focus on story telling. We're also in a cool spot in the music industry in general where we are experimenting by blending genres together. In Sam Heselwood's new song, "Velvet Sky," listeners can expect a mix of folk and rock with a massive emphasis on the storytelling aspects to connect and egage with the audience. Between Sam's raspy voice fitting perfectly in this nook of music while also capturing what it feels like to wrap up summer and enter into fall.
I think what makes this song so unique is how talented Sam is in making a song that feels big and fun pairing it with lyrics that are incredibly vulnerable and sensitive. The imagery of this song are definitely the stongest points with the point of view of the song being how desperately Sam seems to want a conversation about a relationship coming to an end. The lyrics that sums up the whole song is "let's sit by the fire tonight underneath the velvet sky" which paints a picture so perfectly, it feels like you're right there in the scene. The musicality of the song also connects with this lyrics with an acoustic guitar and harmonica throughout bringing out those folk-y notes.
Sam Heselwood is a singer-songwriter from New Zealand. As a former rugby player, Sam was once torn between his two passions before dealing with a life-threatening spinal injury which led him to completely shift his focus mainly on music. Sam finds inspiration from their surrounding and spends time with lyrics to focus on capturing life and the beautiful fleeting moments. Sam's spotify listeners are at an astounding 48,000 monthly listeners which isn't surprising with how engaging and real their lyrics and performances are. Watch out for this one as they'll be taking the industry by storm soon.
