“Voodoo Doll” is the very first single released by the talented Corrine Atkins. This song has the most beautiful and heartfelt meaning behind it. Being in and out of the hospital is never easy for a patient and their family members. The uncertainty of health conditions can take a tremendous toll on anyone. But with the help of those around you and their unwavering support and strength there is always the power to come out healthy and stronger. Corrine Atkins dedicates this song to her younger sister who has been battling a harsh medical condition for the past few years. This song reflects all those moments in the hospital while also showing her sisters incredible strength through it all.
“Voodoo Doll” is such an intense and raw track with lyrics that inspire anyone who listens. When I first listened to this song it gave off that nostalgic early 2000’s vibe. With it’s catchy but steady drum beats throughout paired with the soaring but restless guitar being played. Accompanied by her smooth vocals that were super powerful and reminded me of artists like Pink and Carrie Underwood. While the song is about toughness and the unbreakable spirit of a hard condition, she turns this song into a powerhouse fueled by these very things. I absolutely loved everything this track has to offer, especially with honest lyrics like “I’m a walking voodoo doll” and “stitched with pain all over again.”
