Review: "Worst Taste in Men" - The Haunt

The Haunt’s latest single, “Worst Taste In Men,” is a fiery anthem that sets the listener ablaze with blind rage. As the fourth release from Ghost, their upcoming sophomore album, the song gives their fans a taste of the new project. In “Worst Taste In Men,” the band leans into its heavier side while lead singer Anastasia Grace Haunt pours her heart out. Throughout the angsty rock track, she recounts her past relationships and the red flags she ignored. From lying and cheating to manipulation and gaslighting, the singer excused her exes’ behaviors and admits she has the worst taste in men. She sees a toxic man and sees a project she can fix, not a danger she needs to run from. She is self-aware and desperate to stop this vicious cycle, but she cannot let go of this pattern. It is ingrained in her, something that has defined each one of her relationships. The song is gut-wrenchingly relatable, underscoring the death of modern dating and the atrocities that occur alongside it.
“Worst Taste In Men” is a fiery rock song that switches The Haunt’s sound into a heavier, grittier style. The song begins with a distorted sound that, after a moment, transitions into an explosive rock soundscape. The production emulates the classic 90s punk rock style while maintaining The Haunt’s individualistic taste. Anastasia’s raw emotions overflow into the music, emphasizing the hurt, anger, and resentment she feels towards these men. When the bridge enters, the audience is hit like a punch to the gut, as the kick drum represents the emotional beating Anastasia has endured… and the physical beating these men deserve. With “Worst Taste In Men,” The Haunt has successfully set their hooks in their listeners, who are shaking in anticipation for their upcoming album.
The Haunt is an alt-rock band consisting of siblings, Anastasia Grace Haunt as lead vocals and Maxamillion "Max" Haunt on guitar and production.
