Let’s rewind the clock here– imagine you’re all the way back in 2006 and you’re laying on your bed, twirling the cord to your landline phone as you talk to your crush late into the night. There’s butterflies in your stomach and you keep teasingly telling one another to hang up. Martha May’s “YOU HANG UP!” captures that feeling with such precision that you’re going to feel like you’ve just stepped into a time machine. It’s everything you’ll ever want from a sticky sweet love song, decorated in catchy pop hooks and endless 2000s-era nostalgia. The energy never stops in this track and you’ll definitely never want to stop listening to it!
“YOU HANG UP!” is all nostalgia, and it’s a perfect love letter to those younger days back when the biggest problem in your life was wondering who was going to hang up the phone first– you, or your crush. This is a song for people who love being in love, made all the more saccharine by its amazingly catchy sound. I am absolutely obsessed with this track's production. From the synth to the chorus’ intense jump in energy, “YOU HANG UP!” is always moving, always doing something new to keep you listening and addicted to its sound. I especially adore how the song is interspersed by flirty spoken comments, a back-and-forth, “You hang up!” and “No, you hang up!” There’s something universally relatable about “YOU HANG UP!” that it’ll have you listening to it on repeat over and over again.
