Review: "Younger Then" -Lynda DeFuria

“Younger Then” is a phenomenal uplifting single. The singer reflects on a past relationship and how she has grown as a person after. She details her naivety and feeling intoxicated by a partner. The inspiring lyrics are complemented by a light melody and smooth vocals. This song feels like musical self-care.

The track begins with a dreamy piano. DeFuria’s soothing vocals join and bring to life her message of self-discovery. A highlight of the single would be the hazy melody and vocals after the chorus. The bridge is also another stand-out part of the song. During this section, the only instrument is the piano. The stripped-down bridge brings a new depth to the artist, adding a raspy element to her smooth voice.

Lynda DeFuria is from New York but was raised in Las Vegas, Nevada. She is a singer, songwriter, and actress. The vocalist attended Berkeley College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts. DeFuria appeared in many Off-Broadway musical plays. It seems as though she does it all. She is a co-founder of the feminist theater company, The Shrill Collective. The singer also teaches music to youths privately and in the New York school system. Her first EP was released in 2010 titled, “Alive”. The songwriter released her debut album “Ticking Clocks”, which was released in 2013.
