“The chase” is sometimes part of getting into a relationship. It’s the back-and-forth, the will-they-won’t-they, that keeps some folks interested and wanting more– but what happens when the chase is finally over? David Vogel’s latest single “Your Lover” describes exactly that, and how certain people only care for the chase, and not being caught. But when you’re the one doing the chasing, it feels like you’re stuck in limbo, constantly wondering when you are actually their lover. Filled with catchy hooks and a killer soundscape, “Your Lover” is the perfect blend of introspection and pop. It’s enough to make you think about your own relationships– especially the ones where you were chasing the person– and plenty to make you dance and sing along. If you love songs that give you a reason to reflect and party, then “Your Lover” is going to be the one for you.
There is nothing I want to do more when listening to “Your Lover” than dance. It’s a seriously catchy song that’ll absolutely have you grooving wherever you are– the soundscape is packed full of personality and loads of sonic layers that creates this fantastic track for moving. The song was actually completely produced by Vogel himself, with him playing all the guitars, keys, drums, and doing vocals– except the lyrics, which were written alongside Vogel’s long-time collaborator Nick Gamble. It’s hard to describe the soundscape as anything but genuine and honest; I especially love the song’s percussion, which applies just the perfect amount of intensity to the track. As for the lyrics, there’s just so much to adore about “Your Lover.” The song really hones in on the back-and-forth nature of chasing a person, though it flips when it turns out that the narrator’s lover is actually their lover– but only when they’re sober. That fact brings another dimension to the song’s story, revealing that there might truly be a genuine connection, but the lover only really cares for that chase. “Your Lover” is everything you’d ever want out of a pop song: fantastic lyricism and a soundscape you just have to dance to.
David Vogel is a singer-songwriter who comes from a long line of musicians. His musical journey began when he started playing drums in a youth group at age 11, and his interest grew from there. He eventually started a band called JADN with his brother and friends, which went on to produce the album City Skies and the EP A Futile Attempt. And you may also know him from The Voice Season 21, which he says was a “wonderful opportunity to meet other artists, learn, and gain insight into [his] potential.” Vogel is now pursuing music as a solo artist, having released a series of singles since 2022. His debut track is “breathin”, with songs i sang on that tv show as his 2023 debut EP. “Your Lover” is Vogel’s latest release. If you loved “Your Lover”, be sure to drop him a follow to keep up with his soon-to-be-named seven-song EP that is now in the works!
