Madonna makes an emphatic return to the dance floor with the follow-up to 2005’s Confessions on a Dance Floor. Inspired by personal challenges and the current state of the world, Confessions ll is critically acclaimed and widely considered to be her best album in 20 years.

Best selling female music artist. Greatest music video artist of all time. Socio-cultural phenomenon. One of the most written about figures in world history. The single biggest female influence on pop music. Never to be dethroned. Queen of Pop.

I Feel So Free ushers in the comeback we’ve all been waiting for. It sets the tone perfectly and thrusts the listener into the world Madonna has created. I would describe the first half of the album as one giant dance party. From Good For The Soul to Read My Lips to Love Sensation, she keeps you on your toes with a perfectly curated dynamic playlist. The second half of the album continues the dance party with Bizarre and School. From here on out, the rest of the album slows down and ushers in a more emotional and experimental atmosphere. Most notably, Betrayal, The Test, and the album closer, L.E.S Girl, are lyrically deep and reference her personal life which is a nice juxtaposition to the rest of the album. But the fun doesn’t stop there… We have an icon edition song called Hot Sauce which is available on Youtube or through purchase. It’s primarily sung in Spanish and contains a sample of Hung Up. An absolute crime that it’s not on the standard edition!

Confessions ll is a house album with dance-pop, disco, garage, and techno influences. Recorded as a non-stop dance mix akin to a DJ mix, each song keeps the beat alive and achieves its goal of creating a constant flow of ecstasy as if the listeners are actually in the club. I loved her experimentation and blend of different genres, the way she utilizes spoken word to directly connect with the listeners and evoke a feeling of intense passion, how she made good use of collabs, and the fact that she didn’t succumb to the industry standard of short songs. Overall, my favorites and the ones I have on repeat are I Feel So Free, Bizzare, School, Fragile, and Dancetaria.

In preparation for this album, I listened to the original Confessions album. My favorite songs off of that one are Hung Up, Sorry, Jump, and Like It Or Not. I also went to the listening party in my city where they played several unreleased remixes. I’ve been a fan for all of two weeks, but in that time frame, I’ve been obsessively listening to both Confessions albums. If you’ve never listened to Madonna, you're missing out (duh!). Most musicians today cite her as a musical influence and I can hear her influence all over the charts. Always respect the legends because THEY inspired YOUR favorite artists! Remember who came first and paved the way! With that being said, I will have to conduct an in-depth research of her entire discography and be on the lookout for a tour announcement!
