If there’s one thing I love, it’s a good queer anthem. As a lesbian, I’m always looking for new and fun songs that make me feel fulfilled and appreciated. And now, I think Holly Blair has just released a new favorite of mine! “baby girl, he’s so boring” is a song about queer love, and the difficulties surrounding moving from a straight relationship to a queer one. Blair says some of the inspiration for this song stems from one girl’s past relationship, where her ex shamed her for moving on with a woman. I think this is a message that we don’t really hear often in music, and so I appreciated getting to listen to this perspective. There are a multitude of things I love about this song, so let’s dive into them!
I want to give a shoutout to the production behind this song, because it took the song from a 10 to an 11! I listened to this song with earbuds (which I 100% suggest on your first listen!), and I felt like I was almost transported to another dimension. It’s sexy, reflective, and powerful. I also quickly grew obsessed with Blair’s vocals. I feel they resemble artists like Maggie Rogers or Phoebe Bridgers, especially with its softness. Blair doesn’t belt in this song, but I don’t think that would have been necessary anyway. She has a very unique voice, and I think it worked perfectly with this song.
Holly Blair is an LA-based musician who has been releasing music since 2021. Her debut single, “Me & Magdalena”, sits at around 20,000 streams on Spotify. Following her debut in the industry, Blair released a handful of other singles. Her EP, One Step Away Is Too Far, was released in 2023, and reached the hearts of so many. Blair is a queer artist, and loves to center many of her songs around that theme. Today, Blair gets an impressive 19,000 streams monthly on Spotify, but I can only imagine that number with just continue to grow. Go stream “baby girl, he’s so boring” everywhere, today!
