Edie Yvonne is back once again with brand new single, "Changed My Mind," a whirlwind of a song that reads like spoken word poetry to the sound of catchy alternative pop music. The song explores the complexity of wanting and waiting but eventually making the choice to move forward. "Changed My Mind" reflects on the longing for a certain reality and the lack of clarity that can come with it, but it allows listeners to feel empowered enough to choose the right path. Edie Yvonne always impresses with her work because with each release she is able to eloquently shape the process of growing up and understanding all these lessons life can throw. With "Changed My Mind" you can see a shift in style choices and artistic risks Yvonne is taking and it only proves how far she's come in her career.
What immediately stands out from "Changed My Mind" is the unique structure that contrasts a standard pop song, and it makes up for the length of this track. Within the story, the speaker knows and understands what path must be taken, and yet, the song is filled with pleas and prayers for an alternative outcome. The speaker's turbulence is reflected in the song's unique structure, as it feels unplanned and honest. This is what makes the song feel so real, almost as it's straight out of someone's secret diary with its complete transparency. There's a line that keeps standing out, "you made me hate my guitar, 'cause it only knows your name." It really grasps your mind and shakes you to see how difficult this battle has been and how significant the muse for this song is. Even so, "Changed My Mind" still pushes for a positive outlook in one's decisions to move past the issues. The song empowers in its own way and establishes advice for listeners.
Edie Yvonne is a young artist based in Los Angeles who continues to impress with her musical abilities at such a young age. Previously, she released her EP Girl Code along with many singles. "Changed My Mind" follows her "sad girl song trilogy" that consists of songs "Burn," "Epitome," and "I Might." The young artist received lots of praise for these past works. "Changed My Mind" takes a different path from the others as it takes a more hopeful direction than the past projects. Like always, Edie Yvonne sounds great on this track, and it's safe to say she has another success to add to her long list of accomplishments with "Changed My Mind."
