Your Smith’s “Christina” Cover Art

You won’t find a partner in crime song that fuses a sweet pop persona with a mastermind scheme like Your Smith’s “Christina.” This isn’t the typical mashup between happy-go-lucky rhythm and depressing lyrics. Your Smith’s friendly favors extend beyond spotting a few bucks or driving to the airport. She’ll drive a boat to the middle of the ocean to dump your toxic partner. She sings, “If you could use someone/I could be someone/ Christina.” It’s those unbreakable alibi bonds that keep us out of trouble. Her lyrics are witty and charming, the perfect combo to convince the cops it was just another girl’s night in. “And baby when they come/ I’m good at playing dumb…She’d never hurt no one/ she’s a vegetarian.” Your Smith shows that there’s always a getaway plan—whether you’re stuck in a messy relationship or an interrogation session.

The unconditional care inside Cyndi Lauper’s “Time After Time” meets the glamorous, bouncy synthesizers in Madonna’s “Material Girl.” This is what friendship is all about: generosity and a groovy tune. Your Smith does not hold back from either quality. The beat breaks through like the acceleration through a yellow light. Your Smith balances on the edge of trouble and carefree fun. Layers of organ keyboards and synthesizers that chime with mischief. Your Smith celebrates the successful getaway with bass synths that play like victory trumpets.

Caroline Smith, known as Your Smith, sings with the same supportive, fun energy she brings to “Christina.” Born in Minnesota, she stepped into the music scene with her indie-folk band, Caroline Smith & the Good Night Sleeps. When she moved to Los Angeles in the mid-2010s, she adopted the solo project, Your Smith. For her upcoming album, The Rub, she recorded with Jake Luppen and Nathan Stocker from Hippo Campus at Pachyderm Studios. You’ll find more of those “Christina” colorful chords and dance floor beats with this release.
