frau’s newest single, "graduate," is an emotional pop/garage/hyperpop song dedicated to her little sister who is graduating from high school. Can you all remember how scary it was to get out in the real world? Scary can have many different faces. It could be moving to a different city, starting a new relationship, or not even sure what you want to do with your life. Adulthood means we have to experience these things over and over and over again. Growing up and getting older will be difficult and uncertain, but now that you’re an adult, you have the ability and responsibility to decide what your future is going to look like from here on out.
"graduate" starts with a small musical intro that leads into the pre-chorus and chorus. “It’s late. Wake up. Put your makeup on. I know it’s hard, but you’re almost done. Just a few more months and then you’re gone. You’ll be free to run.” “Go. Get out to California, but only if you wanna. Go. Get out. Get your heart broken. It’s part of getting older. Go.” These lyrics are describing the freedom that comes with graduating and all the potential experiences one could explore. The production is so good and hooks you immediately in the first few seconds. I can’t decide if I want to cry and reflect on my youth or bop my head and shake my hips. I’m having confusing emotions over here, but all you need to know is that the song is great and I recommend it.
frau is an alternative pop singer, songwriter, and producer. She has released original music dating back to 2020. "graduate," the first single off of their upcoming debut album, is reminiscent of Oklou and Caroline Polachek. Oklou and Carolina Polachek have both been in the industry for years and have made alternative/indie/experimental pop. You can clearly hear the influences in the song. If you’re interested in hearing more music from her, I suggest following her on Spotify, Instagram, TikTok, and Facebook, which I have linked down below. Give her as much love as possible and be on the lookout for her debut album!
