Only The Poets’ newest single, Guess She’s Cool, is an alternative pop song about rebounding after a breakup. Alternative can be a wide range of genres. In this case, the song is giving 2000s and 2010s pop with R&B and hip hop influence. In the song, he expresses that he’s not completely over his ex and would much rather get back together with that person. The first rebound after a breakup can be complex and leave you with mixed feelings. You’re still longing for the person you once loved and replaying those memories as if you still get to go back home with them. You’ve physically moved on, but you’re mentally stuck.

Guess She’s Cool runs at 3 minutes and 43 seconds. It starts with a bass strum that leads into the first chorus. “I’m tired of being lonely so I sleep with someone else”, “Got flooded by the memories, but they’re the last thing that I need”, and “I guess she’s cool, but she’ll never be, never be, never be, never be you.” I love the honesty and relatability in the lyricism. The outro is a twenty second piano solo. The mood is sad, but it fits with the theme and vibe of the song. It reminds me so much of the type of pop music I used to listen to growing up.

Only The Poets is an English band hailing from Reading, England. The band consists of frontman and lead vocalist Tommy Longhurst, bassist Andrew Burge, lead guitarist Clem Cherry, and drummer Marcus Yates. They’ve been a band since 2017, have opened for Yungblud, and have released numerous EPs. In 2025, alone, they have released “I Keep On Messing Up”, “You Hate That I’m In Love”, “Emotionally Hungover”, and “Guess She’s Cool”. Earlier this year, they sold out a massive European tour that pushed 25,000 tickets and sold out some shows in America's biggest cities as well. They are trustworthy touring acts as is evident by the many more upcoming shows they have planned before the end of the year. If you love bands, I recommend you give their music a listen!
