Review: "How Dare You" - Alexander Stewart

Alexander Stewart’s newest track, “How Dare You” is raw, explorative, and high-energy. The sense of betrayal Stewart feels oozes out of the lyrics. It’s evident with lines such as, “I was digging my own grave/ Only there to be replaced” Stewart’s personal feelings on the downfall of the relationship is that he is partly to blame. The chorus feels resentful and frustrated; all while being mixed with feelings of personal inadequacy. An eye-catching lyric which presents itself later in the song is the following, “Twenty-four months down the line/ And I still can’t shake you.” The feelings presented in “How Dare You” are incredibly complex, resulting in a nuanced portrayal of a turbulent relationship.

It’s safe to say Alexander Stewart presents some passionate vocals on “How Dare You.”  Accompanied by intense drumming and instrumentals, the tone of the song is confrontational. Something particularly noteworthy is the chorus, where all instruments are stripped away. This allows for the poignant lyrics to take center stage in order to amplify the emotional impact of the song. Stewart’s voice on “How Dare You” also demonstrates his ability to hit the high notes. From heartache to indignation, the dynamic structure and emotive delivery of the track will be what makes it stand out from the crowd.
