Off of ROREY's new album, Dysphoria, comes her third track, "Hurts Me To Hate You." The deeply personal song tells the story of the singer's relationship with her mother, who is featured alongside her in the song's music video. ROREY says she wrote the song at 21 years old when she realized holding on to anger towards her mother was only hurting her. In her own words, she says, "it hurt me to hate her. Even though she may never fully understand me, I still wanted her in my life." This vulnerable ballad is fabricated of lamenting lyrics like, "and we're not gonna change, but I still let you stay 'cuz it hurts me to hate you." Ultimately, the singer concludes through her lyrics that placing entire blame on her mother for their dysfunction only creates more turmoil in their relationship. ROREY takes responsibility for her emotions noting that, "You can't control other people. It has taken me years to get there."

Melding eerie melodies, glossy vocals, and hypnotic instrumentals, "Hurts Me To Hate You" is absolutely haunting. Opening the song is repeated guitar strums paired alongside ROREY's lingering "oohs." The guitar instrumentals continue while ROREY picks up into the lyrics. The song features powerful background tracks of arguing between the singer and her mother. These clips aid the lyrics in conveying the intensity of raw emotion the song is built on. Adding to the song's eeriness are the floating vocal tracks that back the chorus and echo certain lyrics throughout, ensuring that listeners experience the ethereal soundscape reflective of her vehement feelings.

Now twenty-six, the New York-based singer-songwriter has recently released her second album, Dysphoria. Affected personally by the contradictions of mental illness, this album explores ROREY's fight to find meaning in the midst of a manic episode. Interviewed by major magazines like Clash, Metal, and Office Magazine, ROREY is making her powerful voice known. Found on Spotify's curated "Fresh Finds Indie" playlist, ROREY's consistently authentic sound gains her new traction and returning listeners. She currently stands at nearly 10,000 monthly Spotify listeners and will be opening for fellow musician BEL on September 24th in New York.
