Emily Anderson's newest single, "Laughter & Disaster" sheds light on the complex bittersweet experiences we all have over the course of our lives. This absolutely ethereal tune reveals the joy in despair and the sadness in celebration. It's definitely the kind of song that makes you reminisce, and it's really effective. What's most meaningful about this song to me is that it validates all the messy, melancholy yet comedic parts of life, because life isn't always black and white. You can laugh with friends at a funeral. You can cry at an amusement park. Life is just complex and crazy and beautiful like that. "Laugher & Disaster" is that rare type of track that makes you feel everything at once in the most cathartic way possible.
Musically, this song is beautiful. It's simply gorgeous. Emily's voice flows against the acoustic guitar so naturally. Everything feels cohesive and genuine. As the song builds, we hear elements of piano, backing vocals, strings, and pad. It makes it all the more angelic as the track reaches its peak in the final chorus. Honestly, this song could be one voice and one guitar and it wouldn't be any less beautiful. The lyrics are so enchanting that they capture the listener instantly, pulling them into the story. Even at its most bare bones, "Laughter & Disaster" would not fail to silence a crowd. I am truly loving this song and I can't give it enough praise. If you want to really sit down and feel present, alive, and grateful, this is the song for you.
Emily Anderson is an indie singer and songwriter originally hailing from Alaska, USA. With heavy influences from Regina Spektor, Madi Diaz, and Kacey Musgraves, she has made a name for herself writing eloquent emotional pieces that soothe the soul. Emily debuted as an officially released artist all the way back in 2013 with her EP, "Nickels". Since then, she has released numerous albums and singles, making her career over a decade long at this point. And her experience shows in her skills as both a writer and a singer. Her music tackles loss, mental illness, isolation, and a myriad of other complicated topics. It's the perfect soundtrack to reflect, relax, and realize it's all going to be okay. "Laughter & Disaster" is available on all streaming platforms now, and it receives a five, no, ten-star recommendation from me. Go check it out.
