I really love a song that just makes you nod your head because it's way too groovy. That's exactly how I feel about "Layup" by Mira Housey. Originally, when I listen to songs for the first time, I just will have them on so I can listen to them as I'm doing things because that's the best way to become acquainted with the songs quickly. As soon as I started "Layup," I thought I would be able to get away with this as the song starts slowly but as soon as we got to the first beat drop, I immediately ran to grab my headphones to get the full experience. This song does an incredible job at mixing synth, dance music with a great topic that maps over sports reference to connect with relationships.
Hearing this song reminds me of 2015-2020 songs that were post EDM and our Skrillex phase. What Mira brings to the table is perfect for anyone who loves the haromies of Zayn, musical experimentations of Jacob Collier mixed with Ariana Grande style vocal runs. The beginning of the song starts off with a gentle piano which throws the entire song off but not in a bad way. It allows for the first verse to really grasp our attention and like I said above - you can't help but nod your head and groove to it. Each chorus of this song explodes with angelic harmonies but the lyrics also can't go untouched. Mira's sports references allow the lyrics to flow so easily to allow the point to get across of just taking your shot with someone.
Mira Housey is a classic pianist turned pop-star. They write, produce and records music all from their bedroom. All the way from Detroit, Michigan, Mira competed nationally playing the piano at just 7 years old which shows with their music genius behind some of the tracks that we've heard. It seems that everyone also agrees after going viral for doing song-writing challenges, piano compositions. Their music has reached over 40 million views from all different platforms due to their emotionally driven, catchy and upbeat songs that you won't want out of your head. You can listen to "Layup" on platforms everywhere.
