Review: "Lost Time" - CLYDE

Lost Time by CLYDE Cover Art

CLYDE’s single “Lost Time” is a heartbreaking reflection on love and loss. It follows a speaker, reminiscing about his love and the future they had planned, before revealing the heartache and confusion the speaker feels now that she is gone. The lyrics start off by letting listeners cozy into the connection through sensory words, painting the love language of physical touch across the first verse. Marriage, a family, and a lasting life together are mentioned and sorely missed through the chorus, which ends with the words, “Dear God why did you need her more than me?” This question is a heart-wrenching expression of grief, alluding to the speaker’s partner being deceased. The pain and confusion of why echoes through the song, as the speaker lovingly imagining his love beside him: “I hear you whisper ‘you’ll be alright’, I close my eyes and see you again”. Through the broken reality of loss, this song shows the love that will never fade.

Slow, high, and minor piano chords accompany CLYDE’s deep and resonant voice as the song begins. With a rugged vocal strength like Rag’n’Bone Man and a romantic pop twist, CLYDE brings a textured emotion to the lyrics. Piano notes gain a fast and beautiful note pattern through the chorus, continuing through the rest of the song. As the lyrics reminisce about dreams, drums begin and bring a distinct resonant sound. Pauses through the song let listeners take a moment to appreciate the meaning behind the lyrics, as the instrumentals cut down to simple piano and CLYDE’s vocals. Communicating the ups and downs in grief, this track is filled with musical passion.
