Review: "Love Bomb" - Emily Fields

Emily Fields Love Bomb Cover Art

Emily Fields' latest track, Love Bomb, is the quintessential summer ditty to let your hair down too as you soak in the last few sunny days before fall arrives. Emily conveys a "blast of confidence" through her emotionally charged, energetic lyrics; parallelled by such lines as, "How'd you get me under your spell? So addicted to your heaven and hell, went from 0 to 100 so well" and "I'm due a little f*****g respect" – painting the picture of someone who is lovestruck but also well aware of their own self-worth. Fields cites Taylor Swift, Tina Turner, Celine Dion, and Whitney Houston as major influences on her evolving sound – and those influences surely shine through as you listen to her booming vocals. As Emily puts it, Love Bomb is meant to be a song "you can dance to, sing to, and just feel good about, even if you're going through it right now".

Love Bomb opens with a plucky synth arpeggio sequence, layered with a fat synth bassline. Emily flexes her dynamic, and at times theatrical (in the best way), vocal delivery in the song's pre-chorus. The track's instrumentation fills out during the hook with synth pads and distant, percussive claps. After the first hook, the arrangement repeats with another verse, pre-chorus, and infectious hook. There is an artistic bridge with a groovy, choppy piano layer that leads into Love Bomb's final chorus – eloquently putting a metaphorical cherry on top of this already supremely delicious auditory treat.

London-based indie pop artist, Emily Fields, whose emotive vocal talents stem from being "always in her feels". After releasing her debut single back in November 2022, a transparency-laden ballad about being cheated on, she took off on a quick ascent up the music boards. The tracked reached #21 on the iTunes pop chart, leading to Emily having her discography featured on Love Island All Stars, BBC Introducing, and a bevy of music publications (most importantly Pop Passion, of course). Love Bomb is now available on all major streaming platforms, including Spotify, Apple Music, and YouTube – so make sure to go and give a couple listens before it totally blows up and goes mainstream.
