Review: "One Minute" - Maddox Jones

One Minute by Maddox Jones Cover Art

Maddox Jones’ new song “One Minute” remembers and glorifies a love, begging for more time in the relationship. The lyrics begin by looking at photographs, describing the emotions felt when they were taken, before asking “what would you say if I jumped through the frame?” This romantic metaphor represents the speaker’s want to go back in time. The emotion and want to savor what was once to precious to you is something this song captures. Its message is one of devotion and dedication, striking listeners with its authenticity. The chorus asks for “one more minute with you”, showing that time is precious and spreading the beautifully romantic message that sixty seconds with the person you love is a gift.

This cool and stimulating track combines a unique modern style with a vintage feel that is reminiscent of classic 80’s artists like Rick Astley and Soft Cell. Deep vocals sing with swagger, calmly moving through the verse before gaining traction in the pre-chorus, showing a bold and resonant range. Jazzy guitar riffs and an engrossing consistent percussion add to the pristine and dynamic feel of the song. Glowing sustained electronic notes embolden the sound, especially prominent as the sound of a ticking clock takes over the percussion at the beginning of the bridge. This symbolizes time, the very thing the song begs for.
