Ryley Tate Wilson captures our attention with his easily relatable song "Party Girl." We come to understand that the artist is reminiscent of the excited feeling that can be experienced when we're with someone we love. As the listener we gain insight into what it looks like to be caught in a moment where we miss someone from our past. One of my favorite lyrics says, "Friday evenings feel strange now / Never liked going out / Till I met you." This line provides the wholesome touch that we want and need within a song. Even though this is a song that delves deeper into missing someone, there are moments that give us the heartwarming sensation that we want and need. Another line that further proves this says, "You drive me crazy / Look over your shoulder / Tell me don't leave / It all feels like a dream." Even though these lines are only a small glimpse, I can promise the rest of the song is equally drenched in feelings of love and longing.
"Party Girl" is rather introspective and vulnerable in terms of tone. It's delivered with a depth of emotional rawness, like you're slowly opening a closing wound. This holds hands with the feeling and the push towards moving on. While there are hints of sadness the artist is prompting himself to move forward. With the tone being set we can delve into the mood of the song which is meant to be melancholic and longing for us as the listeners. We're actively experiencing the party while feeling distant from the fun because of the wistfulness and longing that's buried deep inside. We're given the chance to hear many creative beats and patterns throughout the duration of the song. These tie together synthesizers, bass guitar, and acoustic guitar which then helps layer the vocals. Taking all these elements and combining them into one piece brings out the emotional depth the artist was going for.
Ryley Tate Wilson is an 18-year-old self-taught pop artist from Montgomery, Alabama. He began producing music in seventh grade and captured national attention as a four-chair-turn finalist on season 23 of NBC's The Voice. While he is rooted in his Southern upbringing, he is also inspired by many different artists including Bon Iver and Charlie XCX. His personal style blends heartfelt storytelling with modern pop. Fresh off of tour with AJR, Ryley Tate Wilson is attending Berkeley College of Music this fall but still plans for an exciting 2026. We can look forward to new music and live dates throughout the year. Give "Party Girl" a listen today!
