"Ready to Let You Down" by Joseph is a song written with the point of view of high standars and incorrect expectations that get thrown on people. It's not saying that you can't have high standards but it talks about how certain expectations to be put on someone just really mean that you don't actually like this person for who they naturally are. This song also talks about how the other person is fully aware about this happening and is ready to stop trying to please the person putting these expectations on them. It feels like a song about taking back control on what people think of you.
The song starts off with a really groovy drum track that launches us into the first verse. This drum track also carries us throughout the song, leaving listeneres with a 2010's feel for most of the song. Most of the attention should be turned towards the lyrics though since they bring up some really great personal points in regards to this idea. With lyrics like, "You want me smiling and pretty, I'm ready to let you down," bring us right to the point of the whole song. The song musically takes so many cool turns too and feels extremely experimental with the guitar parts, including the drum track in a break down during the bridge.
JOSEPH is an American folk band from Portland, Oregon made up from 3 sisters, Natalie Closner, and twins Allison Closner and Meegan Closner. She recruited her younger twin sisters Meegan and Allison to join her for a new project to which their name came as a tribute to the town of Joseph, Oregon and their grandfather named Jo. The trio has played renowned places like Bonnaroo, Coachella and Lollapalooza allowing larger audiences to see the brilliance and talent of these three.
