Coming in hot with a new single, instant crush has released their latest track "SAFETY NET." The song comes off the band's upcoming album, teasing what's to come on I'm Sorry I Didn't Bite My Tongue. Sharing the story behind the song, instant crush's Megan Cannon states, "'SAFETY NET' is a song I wrote in the raw aftermath of a painful breakup. Throughout the relationship, I found myself grappling with an unsettling emotional unavailability, and it felt as though I was constantly being told how I should feel by this person who claimed to know me so well. It was a strange and disheartening situation that left me questioning my own emotions. I felt trapped, as if I was clinging to the relationship out of a deep-seated fear of disrupting what little comfort I had. Musically, I took a lot of inspiration from Bloc Party, and really wanted a fun, hard hitting, indie rock leaning song that would do well live, and I think we captured exactly that."
Having a timeless sound, instant crush's "SAFETY NET" mixes nostalgic pop-rock elements with contemporary indie rock. The track is bittersweet, showcasing a soundscape that feels both lonely and energetic as we hear a combination of ethereal synths, electrifying guitar riffs, driving drums, and melancholy vocals. Reviving sounds of the 2000's, instant crush's "SAFETY NET" seems to draw inspiration from icons like Paramore, Bloc Party, and The Killers, adding a modern flair to what's come before and making the band perfect for fans of NewDad and Cults.
Hailing from Seattle, instant crush consists of members Megan Cannon, Matthew Tran, Keegan Mangahas, and Zoee Mangahas. The group is on a mission to breathe new life into 2000's rock, inspired by the energy of anthemic rock bands that ruled the radio of the time. Adding their own twist to the established genre, instant crush intertwines a nostalgic sound with poignant, soul-baring lyrics that follow a coming-of-age theme. An impressive live act, instant crush has shared the stage with established musicians like Del Water Gap, the Home Team, The Wrecks, the Plain White T's, Daisy Grenade, and The Academic.
