Maria Milis’ debut single, Sleeping With The Enemy, is a dream pop song about realizing your partner is toxic. It’s exactly what it sounds like. You’re in a relationship with someone and you know they are not good for you. In these kinds of relationships, the other person is very manipulative and has a way of making you stay even when you know it’s a bad idea. Have any of you ever felt that kind of stuck in a relationship before? When you can’t recognize the person you’re with and you’re unhappy, it’s really time to leave the relationship. When you all listen to this song, hopefully you’ll be able to reevaluate any similiar situations you've had.

Sleeping With The Enemy immediately pulls you in with a catchy beat thumping along with the first verse, “I feel you pull me closer. Why is it that I feel distant”. In the first pre-chorus, she sings “You tear me down then build me up somehow. Push me to the ground then give me a helping hand.” I like the way she describes his manipulation tactics here. In the bridge, she sings “I heard your hisses way before you bit me with your venom. I’m laying next to someone who has ill intentions.” I like the imagery she uses here when she compares him to a snake. I like the overall vibe of the song, the mature way she discusses toxicity, and the production.

Maria Milis is a 23 year old singer-songwriter born and raised in London with a unique Greek and Brazilian background. She modeled, got a law degree, and worked as a trainee solicitor before she decided to pursue music full time. She worked on her debut single with Grammy nominated producer, Leah Haywood, who is most known for her work with Selena Gomez, Nicki Minaj, Justin Bieber, and Katy Perry. The song has officially charted on the UK iTunes chart. Her upcoming EP will dive into toxic and challenging relationships she experienced in her youth and how they helped her grow into the woman she is today. Be sure to check it out!
