Review: "Stardust" - Crystal Skies x HALIENE

Crystal Skies has teamed up with HALIENE to reveal a celestial and angelic track titled “Stardust,” which stands out as one of the most unique songs I’ve ever heard. This mesmerizing song is part of their 10-track sophomore album, also titled “Stardust,” which was released on February 23rd. The meaning of the title and the cover art are referring to the elements released into space after the stars explode that we as humans also share in our bodies, essentially saying that we are one with the stars. How cool is that? This definition, combined with HALIENE’s heavenly vocals during the booming bass and beat drops makes you feel like you’re taking a trip through space while flying among the stars.

This song captures the wonders of the universe and makes you feel like you’re part of something bigger. As we follow along with the lyrics, we can see HALIENE questioning this feeling she’s having of being connected to the stars ever since she was born: “Since I was born I've been homesick for the sky. I would look up and dream of worlds other than mine.” It’s scientifically proven that the majority of the elements in our bodies are the same elements that were formed in the stars. HALIENE’s understanding of this has sparked more curiosity in other mysteries of existence, such as our place within the universe and our relationship with the cosmos: “If you and I are stardust, so far and yet so close, why do the stars still feel like home?

Crystal Skies are an EDM duo made up of producers Britian Holcomb and Aaron Dawson. Initially pursuing solo careers, they eventually joined together and formed Crystal Skies after admiring each other’s work. This led to their first collaboration of “Paradise Lost.” Crystal Skies was then born and they’ve been successful ever since, surpassing 300,000 monthly listeners and exceeding 41 million plays on Spotify. HALIENE, born Kelly Sweet, is an EDM and electro pop singer from Massachusetts. With achievements like a Grammy nomination and winning the EDMA Female Artist of the Year two years in a row, HALIENE is killing it with her electrifying vocals on collaborations. She is currently on tour alongside DJ’s and producers MitiS and William Black. She also has nearly 900,000 monthly listeners, with her most streamed song being “Rush Over Me,” a collaboration with Seven Lions and Illenium. This track has over 54 million streams to date.
