The pressure to create the traditional “nuclear family” can hit hard, but with added pressure of figuring out your future in a same sex couple can make it feel nearly impossible. Philine’s latest song “ten years time” details this struggle, but inevitably concludes that life is hard enough to work through, so thinking of all of the negatives in the future takes away from all of the positives right now. She reminds herself that even if their future family does not look the same as everyone else's, at least she gets to love her wife truly and fully, and enjoy the time that they have together. She says, “It’s a gentle reassurance that life will work itself out, serving as a reminder to live in the present rather than getting lost in uncertainty.”

“Ten years time” has a simplistic soundscape, with a slight electric guitar and drum beats growing with her voice as she carries along through her story. The first verse discusses their conversations about kids and marriage, who would carry the baby and whether or not to legally marry. Despite these disagreements, in the chorus she sings, “Forget about ten years time / Forget about down the line / Focus on the feeling that you can’t resist / The future’s full of reasons that you can’t predict, oh”. In the outro, the soundscape grows for a second until it explodes, emphasizing the message philine brings forth as she repeats the lyrics sung in the chorus. Her voice is simple and heartfelt, leaving the lyrics here to tell the story for her.

Philine is from a small town in the Netherlands, and grew up with music playing a large part of her childhood. Her mother instilled her love for this artform in her, being a kindergarten aged music teacher and constantly playing the guitar around the house. Her music has turned into a way to get her own thoughts out of her head and into real life, and listeners love her authenticity and ability to put feelings into words. She says, “During the writing process, I spent a lot of time inside of my brain. I have a huge imagination, and I’m a big overthinker. I tend to live in fantasy more than reality. I get so caught up with how I perceive things and my almost movie like version of life.” Make sure to follow the social medias below to stay tuned for more music from philine.
