Review: "Ya We Broke Up (Acoustic Version)" - Sophia Bavishi

When exiting a relationship, it’s easy to fall into a state of remorse, but if you are able to look into the future with the hope of a new, better life, congratulations, you won! In Sophia Bavishi’s acoustic rendition of her 2021 track “Ya We Broke Up,” she creates a new outlook on a song about looking back at a past relationship and not feeling any regret and instead, feeling hopeful about possible future endeavors. Two years after the release of the original single, it is clear how much Bavashi has grown as an artist as her talent is able to shine much brighter in the acoustic version of “Ya We Broke Up.” There is a clear maturity in her singing, as she has gained more control and confidence. It’s clear that Sophia Bavishi has fun revisiting one of her oldest tracks, and it’s a song that is definitely worth a listen.

While there are no lyrical changes, there is a difference in tone between the original and the acoustic version of the song. While the original is a more hyper-pop-sounding track, this new version comes across as an emotional ballad that shifts the entire situation presented by the song. The piano accompanies Bavishi’s voice so well and creates a much more sentimental delivery. The lyrical content paints a confident demeanor for the speaker, as they express to their past partner how they do not need them anymore. The chorus has a nice rhythm to it and there’s a fun play on words at the end where she sings “wishing you the best ex, oh,” but the line can also read as “wishing you the best, xo.” It’s a fun addition that could be intentional or unintentional. The bridge of the song includes a part where she switches to speaking instead of singing and it adds to the lighthearted nature of the track. Overall, Sophia Bavishi has executed this acoustic rendition very well and is able to showcase how much she has grown as an artist.

With a look at her discography, it is clear that Sophia Bavishi is growing and perfecting her craft in a way that keeps audiences on the edge of their seats, excited to see what she will do next.
