  • Review: "We Don't Stand Alone" - Kailie Simpson

The captivating Kailie Simpson has released another one of her strikingly influential singles. This song takes you through a myriad of feelings between trying to let go and understanding this old, powerless version of yourself, right down to finding and reclaiming your highest potential. Fighting with ourselves is a concept that no one can resist, it's almost inevitable to be our biggest critics. We are always doing or telling ourselves harmful and dishonest things and it becomes this daily, comfortable routine. While trying to make sense of it alone we automatically think no one will understand, but that is far from the truth. “We Don’t Stand Alone” gives us the courage to break free from ourselves and connect with those who are always willing to help. The inspiration this track brings is insanely intense. She kicked off the song by going right into the lyrics rather than having a melody start off. I thought that was really special and showed the deep meaning behind the song. There was a moment where I found myself really resonating with this song when the lyrics said, “We just wanna go home / We’ve got one life / It’s fight or flight / We don’t stand alone.” I could almost feel the emotions every step of the way through her roaring vocals paired with the powerful piano keys. Along with the piano was the slightest touch of the drums and guitar which was simply remarkable and tied the entire track together.   Kailie Simpson was born in New Jersey where she has built her musical career from. She started releasing music in 2018 and has just recently made her debut back into the musical world. “We Don’t Stand Alone” is a well-rounded mix of rock and her unfiltered soulful lyrics. Simpson is a singer/songwriter whose voice is unlike one I’ve ever heard before. I have just found my new favorite artist and I can’t wait to hear what else is to come from her. • Review: "Pretty Thing" - Cristina Colombo

Cristina Colombo’s track “Pretty Thing” focuses on the hard truth that some relationships are just way too complicated. No matter how badly we may want someone they simply do not think the same way. We can give them all the attention in the world, and it still won’t be enough for them. While sitting and waiting around for them may seem like little to no effort it takes a huge toll on yourself. We realize that although their company is extremely nice to be around it doesn’t take away from the fact that they are only along for the chase. The dating world is so hard these days because we never know who this beautiful person in front of us truly is. “Pretty Thing” explores these same messages in a way that doesn’t make you overthink yourself but rather move on to find someone who values you and not the chase. Once the song began, I immediately loved everything about it. The first thing that came to my mind was how I could picture this song opening up an early 2000’s romantic comedy. The entire vibe of the song felt so nostalgic and real. Especially the way her vocals encompassed the track, that was my personal favorite. As she sang so calmly and carefree about something that isn’t easy to talk about let alone sing about. Her lyrics were filled with so much energy with lines like “I’m a dreamer / I’m so patient, it’s obscene” and “You’re just a pretty thing who needs to be seen.” Colombo gave her listeners a song that was relatable but did so in a way that didn’t make you feel sad but rather hopeful and ready for the next.   Singer/songwriter Cristina Colombo found her passion for music while growing up in Los Angeles, California. As a teen she learned to play the guitar and write songs and absolutely loved everything music had to offer. During the pandemic Colombo had a ton of spare time and that was what actually sparked her musical flame once again. She strives to create songs that are honest and relatable to connect with each and every one of her listeners. Her debut album “You & Me” is out now with eleven remarkable tracks. • Review: "So Sweet" - Allen Miller

Allen Miller has gifted us the perfect upbeat song for the Spring season. This catchy tune perfectly describes what it looks like to willingly forgive someone even when they've hurt us multiple times. We don't forgive them because we excuse the pain they've caused, but sometimes we forgive them because living without them hurts more than the pain they've inflicted on us. We can easily relate to the line that says, "If you'd text me / My heart would skip a beat / Baby / All you gotta do is say sorry" because if the person would apologize we'd gladly let them back in. We can further connect to these feelings toward the end of the song. The bridge says, "Tell me you've searched the world / And you haven't found it since / Just say you're sorry / It's as simple as it gets." Even when everyone else is telling us to move on, we hold onto the sliver of hope that the other person will change. Click here to listen to "So Sweet" by Allen Miller! "So Sweet" gives us an upbeat and hopeful tone. We're able to grasp the weight of the overall theme while also tapping our foot to the beat. Even though the music seems upbeat and cheery the mood is a bit somber. We're coming to understand that the artist longs for an apology from the other party. Having the song be both somber and hopeful brings a uniqueness to the piece that is unlike anything we've seen before. The blend of electronic synth, guitar, and drums helps pull the lyrics into the song. All of these elements work together, which helps make the piece perfect bringing it full circle. Allen Miller prides himself on being a writer first and foremost. He dabbles in indie folk and pop. Allen has said that his top priority is telling authentic, compelling stories. He takes inspiration from artists like Taylor Swift, MUNA, The 1975, and Harry Styles. The inspiration behind the song "So Sweet" comes from a mixture of Sabrina Carpenter's "Short n' Sweet" and Taylor Swift's "Midnights." This song was Allen Miller's first collaboration with Wolf and Love drummer and producer Danny Wolf. Danny Wolf produced and co-wrote "So Sweet" with Allen. • Review: "Nowhere Feels Like Home" - Rosanna

When prompted to think about where they consider “home”, one may think of many things. The smell of crayons at the kitchen table. Scraped knees on the playground. The princess bedsheets on your childhood bed. As we grow up, our idea of home shifts and changes, which brings along a variety of struggles within this process. Some of these feelings are defined in Rosanna’s “Nowhere Feels Like Home”. With age comes certain milestones. Of these milestones includes moving out from the home we grew up in. Whether it is 10 minutes down the road or halfway across the country, the distance creates loneliness. Rosanna explores these hard emotions and the realization that home is people, not places, with artistic songwriting and fantastic musical technique. This song was produced by Alexander Comana (or Meido Total) in a beautifully artistic way. The synths have a wide melodic and expressive range, and the underlying rhythm drives the song through its climaxes and valleys. The instrumental components compliment the emotional elements of the songwriting in a wonderful way. With a bouncy characteristic within the synths, listeners are brought into the feelings of the track. Just as the synths bounce against the walls of the room the song is being played in, one can imagine their voice echoing back to them in an empty house. Not only did Comana produce a technically impressive song, but he also created an emotional work of art. Rosanna is an emerging artist from the United Kingdom and “Nowhere Feels Like Home” is the first single of 2025. Previous releases include her debut EP “Restless” and her single “Ten Times More”. On this single she collaborated with Tayte Nickoles, the Music Producers Guild Breakthrough Producer of the Year for 2024. Not only is Rosanna an impressive artist and creator, her performance skills are nothing shy of enticing and mind-blowing. This is evident in her sold-out shows across London, including a sold-out EP launch, and support slots for various artists. Her work has garnered praise from multiple media outlets. • Review: "Biggest Fan" - Frances Whitney

It’s so easy to get wrapped so tight into the idea of loving someone that you start to lose pieces of yourself for them. Cheering someone on and being their biggest fan, only to sit behind the dark curtains waiting to get pulled out into the spotlight by their side. “Biggest Fan” is a single from Frances Whitney featured on her EP "Old Hobbies." It's about the willingness to give all of yourself up for someone only to realize it’s never worth it. This song is a delusional girly anthem for all of us who have romanticized a relationship that in all reality would never be healthy. The production on this track blend folk guitar, spacious harmonies with Frances vulnerable lyricism. She laid this song out bare for us to listen and cry on our bedroom floors mourning the parts of ourselves lost to doomed love. But every piece we lose creates space for the pieces we find along the way and “Biggest Fan” is a piece of Frances journey to herself. “Biggest Fan” feels like it’s written from a place of denial. She’s willing to sacrifice everything that makes her who she is and doesn’t realize that the other person never does the same. “What’s love if not self-sacrifice? Cut myself down a size to fit inside your life.” Love makes us do crazy things like putting someone on a pedestal who never deserved to be there in the first place. Frances writes about all the hope and good she feels when she sees this person and how all she wants is a chance to be apart of them. She concludes the song with taking off the rose colored glasses and seeing the toxicity of minimizing yourself for just some guy. “I finally see the holes in my failed plan, you’re just a man.” Understanding the things you thought you wanted weren’t what you needed to be happy. Frances Whitney has always known deep down she was meant to be a songwriter. Residing in San Fransisco, California, she grew up playing sports most days but all her downtown was dedicated to her guitar. Once she retired sports, she felt she finally picked her identity as a musician. Frances is inspired by 70’s rock and modern indie landscapes which she’s blended together to create her own soulful and honest sound. “Easy Street” was her debut single released in 2024 and she went on to release three more singles leading to her debut EP “Old Hobbies” which now has an extended version. She loves oversharing about the good, the bad and the ugly she experiences in life. Frances Whitney is a must listen if you love artists that leave everything on the table. • Review: "Diva" - Tess Clare

Spring into an eccentric tale of self-exploration and freedom with “Diva” from artist Tess Clare. With a deep, soul-stirring voice crossed with infectious pop energy and personal lyrics, Clare has created a beautiful blend between genres and time. “Diva” tells the story of Clare’s journey regarding confidence and change, evaluating herself at every age and connecting it all to who she is today. The song utilizes both the pain & beauty that comes with losing touch with who you are and/or one’s sense of confidence, and showcases the connection through a balance in sound. With an infectious, dance-instigating sound alongside lyrics that are both personal and speak for many others, “Diva” authentically & instinctually goes above & beyond in drawing you in. Struggling with the ebb & flow of time in conjunction with aging and changes in the world, Clare lays it all out on the table through “Diva”. Clare wonderfully explores the aspects of coming of age stories and draws inspiration from her own life in “Diva”. Clare embeds visually striking details in her lyrics – a camera in hands, clothes on the floor, lips on glass – cluing the audience in on both changes in time and within herself. These details, while on the surface may be small pieces to the entire puzzle of “Diva”, are simply representative of Clare’s, at times, struggling within the song and who she truly is. Although age is a concern shown in this song, it is not representative of who she is. Clare works both for and against herself in “Diva”, as a lot of people can relate to, but ultimately uses the time that has passed to reassure herself that she always has been – and always will be – a diva. Although, while this may be true, she shows the audience that in the future, her life may look different. She views herself, and “Diva”, from all angles – but never loses sight of her spirit. Through this song, she passionately & authentically navigates her identity and wishes for her future while never abandoning herself. Tess Clare is an independent artist based in Los Angeles, California. In her hometown, north of Chicago, Clare began writing and recording music as early as age thirteen. After attending a fine arts boarding school in Michigan, Clare earned a degree in songwriting from Belmont University in Nashville, Tennessee. One of her recent single releases, “Never Be a Boy” has been featured as #1 in the Grammy’s 2024 Pride Month Playlist in addition to the Apple Music editorial playlist, “New in Alternative”. Her first EP – “All I’m Used To” – as well as her recent releases, have gained the attention of numerous Spotify editorial playlists and was selected by Ones to Watch, under Live Nation, to play her first festival alongside artists such as The 1975 and Billie Eilish. While she has been steadily releasing new music, Clare is currently brewing her biggest project to date. • Review: "Just Because" - Leah Kate

Heartbreak, longing, and that push-and-pull relationship with boundaries that aren’t quite defined, Leah Kate hits all these beats and more in her latest single “Just Because”. This one is all about missing your ex enough to do what your friends would probably urge you against: going back to them. And even if you both feel the same way, sometimes things just don't work out, and you end up stuck in a loop with them calling you, and you running to them. This track wants to acknowledge that feelings are often stronger than logic– and if you’ve got bad impulse control, then you’ll be falling back into bed with your ex “just because”. Joined by both electro and dance pop genres, “Just Because” is loaded with raw and honest lyricism that pairs with its dynamic, danceable soundscape, reaching universal relatability while still being a personal narrative about Leah’s own experiences that ultimately shaped the song. Leah’s talent for creating breakup anthems shines underneath the spotlight in “Just Because”. The track is decorated in dance-inducing electro effects, sparkling echoes and entrancing synth– listeners are treated to a wide and varied soundscape, a range that is super compelling and a total treat for the ears. I love how the song swaps back-and-forth from its melodic chorus to the deeper, monotone verses that have Leah both singing and narrating about the song’s ex. And let’s not forget about the songwriting that is on display in “Just Because” because that is definitely my favourite part of the track– I just adore how flowy the chorus is, and combined with its soundscape, it makes everything just meld together so smoothly. The verses provide a juxtaposition to the chorus, being more directly descriptive about the song’s subject. This is especially evident in the song’s first line, which describes the narrator’s ex as a “classic American sociopathic douche”. It’s such a simple yet specific line that it had me picturing that exact man when I was listening to the song. “Just Because” is a brilliant blend of relatable lyricism and energetic soundscape that’ll have you both dancing to it and thinking on its writing. Leah Kate is RIAA Certified Platinum artist whose music has reached over one billion global streams, bringing people from all over the world together under her breakup pop umbrella. Her music is bold, relatable, and is redefining the pop genre. She’s been a supporting act for Anne-Marie, Madison Beer, and Hayley Kiyoko’s EU/UK Tours, and has additionally had her music featured in shows like Selling Sunset  and The Hills . • Review: "New Best Friend" - EMME

Los Angeles pop singer EMME and her new single “New Best Friend” are the topic of today’s review! Let’s dive into the contents of this song. From inception, these lyrics seem to be wrestling with the fact she’s been replaced. A friend who she’d thought would be by her side forever has now moved on and replaced her. The important inclusion of the lyric “[she's] nothing like me” shows the listener that losing a friend can make you question your own self-worth. The overall tone of this friend breakup is bittersweet, and EMME exclaims she’s “better off instead” in the main chorus as a way of announcing it’s time for her to do some healing. The writing of this single is superb, and it truly demonstrates the nuances of a now faded friendship. “New Best Friend” possesses a whimsical and slower-paced start. Here, EMME shows off her excellent singing skills with stripped back, relaxed instrumentals. The passion with which she sings the lyrics makes the beginning feel like a story. As the song builds, a stronger drum beat begins to carry the tune. There is an infectious energy which builds towards the chorus which is supplemented by insanely good production. Filled with great melodies and catchy lines, “New Best Friend” will certainly have you dancing by the end. Now, let’s talk about the mastermind behind “New Best Friend.” EMME is a rising pop singer and songwriter who is based out of the Los Angeles area. Starting out in the writing game, she has writing credits with accomplished artists such as Grace VanderWaal . EMME made her own mark with a feature on Le Youth’s “About Us” which currently sits on Spotify with over 13 million streams. Canaan Stanley's song "Falling in Love" captures the comfort, passion, and excitement of a new romance. Fulfillment and invigoration come from the honest lyricism of this track. Showing listeners the way a new love can mean unparalleled understanding, the lyrics "your words were the truth" boldly portray the beauty of feeling seen. The speaker of the song sees positive growth within themself, understanding it as a direct result of their blossoming love. Taking on feelings of devotion in the chorus, the speaker offers an eternal sense of love and desire, proclaiming they want to "hold you 'til the end." This uplifting song will warm your heart with its blissful message of connection. This romantic pop track will make you feel held with its bright and wholesome sound. Ambient twinkling notes open the tune, setting a dream-like mood before Canaan's warm vocals join in. His singing carries an air of fulfillment, almost like you can hear a smile through its tone. • Review: "Broke Skin" - John Fellner

When relationships come to an end, it’s hard not to think back and wish you could go back to when times were simpler. It takes a lot of effort to try to fix something that’s already broken, and “Broke Skin” by John Fellner describes more in depth how turmoil in a relationship can reach a breaking point. This breaking point could show that these unresolved emotional issues within his relationship weren’t able to heal. When you scrape your knee, you use a Band-Aid because you need to cover up the damage in order to heal it. If you leave your wound untreated, the pain can become unbearable leading to other issues. Now think of that in terms of a relationship. John has already implied that there are already wounds either in the relationship itself or how he feels personally. By trying to cover up the wounds, it’s almost like neglecting the hurt that he’s experienced. The wounds that are broken can potentially mean that the relationship was already doomed from the start, considering the lyrics mention talking in circles and arguing about the same points over and over again, which is just making everything worse. Produced by Fellner himself, “Broke Skin” is a song about how a relationship can take a toll on a person’s overall being, regardless of if they are still in the relationship or if it’s over. It’s a beautifully arranged acoustic indie-folk track. John’s voice is so smooth. He’s able to convey the feeling of love and heartbreak just by how he sings. It sounds like he’s yearning to go to the past and make things right in the relationship he sings about. I really love when songs have an instrumental build up that supports the lyrics and the way it’s sung. The song starts on a more acoustic note with a guitar, but later on you can hear subtle drums and upbeat claps which I thought was a really nice touch. This sounds like it could be a Noah Kahan song and coming from me that’s an extremely high compliment. John Fellner is a singer, songwriter, and producer from Ontario. He draws inspiration for his music from experiences of grief, infatuation, and breakups, which is a reflection of his art. He blurs the lines between indie, folk, and R&B. He got his start in the music industry behind the scenes as a producer. He’s a JUNO nominated producer and songwriter who has worked with some of Canada’s most notable artists. In 2023, he won the Aeolian Hall songwriting contest and Slaight Music’s It’s Your Shot Contest. Fellner is a verified artist on Spotify and has over 23,000 monthly listeners on the platform. It’s clear John is one to keep on your radar. Check out “Broke Skin” and give it a listen! Written By Alexa LaMalfa FOLLOW JOHN FELLNER: Instagram | Spotify  | TikTok  | Facebook  | YouTube
