Earth Day or Bruno Mars Day? I chose to celebrate both! I went to see the legendary Bruno Mars in Houston, Texas on April 22. I’ve always liked his major hits and respected his iconic performances. In my opinion, he’s one of the last great pop stars. I’ll explain what I mean later. First, let’s get into the opening acts.

DJ Pee .Wee (aka Anderson .Paak) came out around 7:15 pm and his set lasted 20 minutes. He played older hits including "Love On Top", "We Found Love", "I Want To Dance With Somebody", and "Get Low". It was the perfect way to hype up the crowd. After that, Leon Thomas came out at 7:45 pm. I grew up watching him on Victorious, a Nickelodeon show, so it was really cool to see him gaining more recognition. He absolutely shredded the guitar and even played the bass and drums during his amazing 30 minute set which included "HOW FAST", "Blue Hundreds", and "MUTT".

At 8:45 pm sharp, the lights went down, a video of Bruno praying for himself, his band, and the fans hit the screen, and "Risk It All" started to play. He bounced back and forth between songs from 24K Magic and The Romantic albums including "Cha Cha Cha", "God Was Showing Off", "24K Magic", and "That's What I Like". He finished off the first half of his set with "Something Serious" which made everyone lose their minds. The second half of the show began with Silk Sonic. They performed "777", "Fly As Me", "Smokin' Out The Window", and "Leave The Door Open". I had never really listened to Silk Sonic so I was pleasantly surprised by Anderson’s vocals, dancing, and drum skills. After the epic duo wrapped up their songs, Bruno rattled off some of his most iconic songs like "Marry You", "Locked Out of Heaven", and "Uptown Funk". We were loving every moment and singing our hearts out as if it had been 10 years since his last album and world tour (lol!). But, before he officially left the stage, he performed one last song, "Dance With Me". What a beautiful finish!

Earlier when I said Bruno is one of the last true popstars we have, I didn’t stutter. All through the night, he showed off his incredible guitar skills, passionate vocals, smooth dancing, and crowd engagement. A masterclass performance that only the greats can pull off. I witnessed true showmanship tonight and I am stunned!
