Slay Raché’s new single, Coldest Place On Earth, is a mid tempo alt/dark pop song about not allowing someone else to break your heart repeatedly. It’s that moment where you’ve played enough games and you finally deny that person access to your heart. Some realize this sooner than others and some never realize it. The key takeaway from this is that you are not the problem and you should have never have to go through hell and high water for someone who doesn’t respect you. The music video is set in the winter at a cabin out in the woods. She is wearing a beautiful, long gown paired with a fur coat while dancing in the snow. Slay indeed!
Coldest Place On Earth is the definition of a perfect pop song. It’s got the storytelling, emotive melody, and infectious hook on top of crisp production. When I say storytelling, I’m referring to the way she lyrically navigates from protecting her peace, “new man, he must stan, he must shelter in the rain”, to heartbreak, “you make me feel like my bed’s the coldest place on Earth”, to bouncing back, “I won't sit and wait, the right one will come find me one day”. It’s moody, sexy, and just beautifully done. If you love pop music like myself, you’re going to have to add this to your playlist like I did.
Slay Raché is a pop and R&B artist. She blends sharp lyricism with emotionally charged vocals which allows her to turn late-night realizations into anthems. By combining pop and R&B, she is able to create cinematic songs about confidence, desire, and knowing your worth. From “Good Thing” to “After Hours” to “When The Lights Go Out”, “Coldest Place On Earth” adds to what is already an impressive catalog of glamorous, vulnerable, and unapologetically powerful music. With two singles already this year, I’m excited to see what else she has in store for us.
