Scandinavian alt-pop group amilost pounds the drums, dials up the overdrive on the guitar, and releases the angst in their latest track, “I’ll Never Fall in Love Again,” choosing loneliness over loss. Sigrid Zeiner confronts the emotional manipulation of a toxic relationship, singing, “break me down and call it love.” The words leave scars, a permanent impression that love is only painful. Rather than risk burning herself again, she refuses to light the flame and withdraws. Her pessimistic world shifts to hopelessness. Her repetition of the hook becomes a vow, a barrier around her heart. Her lyrics carry an edginess, as if wrapped in barbed wire. How do you take down the fence you built when you might wound yourself even more? We retreat behind the promise “I’ll Never Fall in Love Again.”

amilost replaces their ballads and soft piano from Introspective Souvenirs with the sharper, more electronic soundscape in their latest track. Vocal chops, layered with a reversed warp-like effect parallel the echoes of the haunting relationship. A deep bass rumbles and rings in the background, stirring the tension. Ross Craib packs a punch with his bass-heavy drumbeats, that increase in volume at the chorus, during the same moments Zeiner repeats her promise like a mantra. The brief drum solo towards the end of the song slows the pacing, measured and spacious, allowing the feeling to sink in. The lyrics, the fear, and the promise cut right to the heart.

amilost is a rising alt-pop duo composed of Norwegian vocalist and producer Sigrid Zeiner and Scottish drummer and co-producer Ross Craib. They blend their classical and hard rock backgrounds into a sound they describe as “Scandinavian pop with a touch of grandeur.” Their 5-track release, Chapters of a Heartbreak, is their creative breakthrough, framed by the narrative of heartbreak and supported by producer Mark Elliott. Whether it's a soft and slow song or filled with techno elements, they create music that's raw with emotion and refreshingly vulnerable.
