Luna Zol’s debut single, Venus, is a mid tempo alternative pop song about contemplating walking away from a toxic relationship. In this case, she was dating someone who abused substances. First of all, I want to commend her for candidly talking about this difficult period in her life. It’s very bold of her to be so vulnerable in her debut. In general, I think people, especially women, are taught to stay in a relationship and are expected to “fix” others. Just like others who have walked in her shoes before, they had to learn that you can’t save someone else.
Venus starts with a somber piano that creates a dark atmosphere coupled with dark lyrics. In the second verse, she sings “Bottles as close as skylight. Red pill, blue pill. All you do is running from your mind. I can’t get inside.” In the chorus, she sings “Even at night, under the stars, blind me. I was the one giving you all my heat. The early morning touch, but Venus is too much.” The lyrics are dark and sad, but they describe the depressing situation very well. In addition to vivid imagery, I love the way her voice flows through the song. It’s very emotional so have a box of tissues next to you while you listen.
Luna Zol is a musician who relocated to Vienna, Austria to create music with Magnus Thomson. You’ve probably heard of her TikTok account, Lunazlullaby. It’s exactly what it sounds like. She would sing people to sleep every night all over the world. If you were suffering from mental health issues keeping you awake at night, you could tune in to hear her playing intimate piano ballads. She speaks to a lot of people and their experiences and provides healing and transformation for the mental health community. This is the exact type of artist I believe you all will love and connect with.
