“Caught In The Rain” is yet another example of just how raw and vulnerable Alvin Weise is willing to get. As open as Weise was in this song, the lyrics tell a different story of someone who was used to running away from vulnerability. Oftentimes, people view showing emotion as a sign of weakness, but in reality it’s one of the most powerful and freeing things you can do. This song symbolizes how lonely and heavy it can feel when you force yourself to hold everything in. The title “Caught In The Rain” even serves as a metaphor of being stuck in a figurative storm of emotions that seem never ending. But in many cases, the clouds tend to dissipate when we talk about our feelings and seek the necessary help to navigate them. Speaking about what the song means to him, Weise said, “‘Caught In the Rain’ takes me back to a time of loneliness and self-doubt. I was afraid to show weakness, which made me even more isolated. I tried masking my pain, but it all came crashing down. I think it’s safe to say it’s been a long time since I’ve listened to a song I’ve resonated with as much as this one. “Out to Get Us” is the debut single by Anny Ogrezeanu, and is a ballad about the freedom to be yourself. Ogrezeanu is non-binary, and says that they wrote the song to highlight the absurdity of how people can feel threatened by change that has no impact on them whatsoever. I’m a lesbian, so I can relate to this completely. Ogrezeanu says they hope this song can resolve this issue once and for all, and I can only hope the same. It’s an incredible piece, with beautifully written lyrics that genuinely had me in tears by the end of it. When a song has such powerful lyrics like “Out to Get Us”, it’s important it also has some impactful instrumentals, as well. Thankfully, Ogrezeanu has us covered. The song opened with an almost orchestral sound with violins and a piano. Then, Ogrezeanu starts to sing. I genuinely began to tear up the second they opened their mouth. Ogrezeanu has an incredibly powerful voice that I think is perfect for a song like this. You can hear the emotion and desperation in their voice so clearly, something I find most artists struggle to do these days. Anny Ogrezeanu is a German-Romanian singer and songwriter, and as I said before, this is only their debut single. Incredible… I know! You may recognize Ogrezeanu as the 2022 winner of The Voice of Germany, an accomplishment they made after 5 unsuccessful attempts to get a spot on the show.
