  • Review: "Warm Body" - Caleb Hearn

Caleb Hearn uses his new song "Warm Body" to tug at our heartstrings. He gives us a piece that allows us to understand love in a deeper sense. While listening to the song, it was very clear that the point was to invoke deep thought and personal connection to relationships and how scary it is to love someone. A prime example of this is within the chorus when it says, "It either never starts / Or it always ends / It either breaks your heart / Or it's gone too quick / It is what it is / Over again and again." These lyrics do a fantastic job of describing what it's like to love someone so deeply that it becomes scary to think about. Lyrics that show up later in the song present us with the feeling of hesitation, too, due to not wanting to get hurt again, the lyrics say, "So what's the point if either choice is going to kill me / Could I just find a warm body to lie here with me / And I won't care and she won't care / Maybe that's better / Then I could spare my heart by thinking with my head first." The song begins in a very upbeat manner and maintains this energy throughout, making it relatable and easy to follow along with. The acoustic guitar is the glue that holds the song together. The guitar creates a steady and constant flow. When paired with the sound of the guitar, the drums solidify the song and creates a sturdy flow which helps the lyrics tie the whole piece together. The lyrics and the artists voice fuel the song and give it that powerful feel which hits us as the listener in a deep way it doesn't matter where you're at in life you feel the impact the song has on you, and you feel it because it's relatable. Caleb Hearn snuck up on us in the best way possible. Hearn, who is originally from Mount Airy, North Carolina, emerged after his song "Always Be" resonated with a community of people on TikTok. Since then, he has gained a total of 1.5 million TikTok followers and has also collaborated with artists like Jillian Rossi, Haywood, and Sad Alex. Hearn also earned praise on the song "under the weather" with Jillian Rossi. Among those that spoke about it were Lyrical Lemonade, Mud, and EARMILK they deemed the song as "An important and affecting release." When asked about the song "Warm Body" Hearn said, "This was the last song we decided to put on the project. We needed some energy and this song makes me want to roll the windows down and drive. It just feels so warm but also holds such a meaningful concept. Being afraid of love is so real, and it's scary, I've been there. I just wanted to be able to touch on that subject in a lighter manner, and I really wanted a song with a guitar solo." Caleb Hearn did a fantastic job of bringing the subject to light in a way that was relatable and heartfelt. Watch out for Hearn because he is undoubtedly a force to be reckoned with. • Review: "Crumbling" - Catlea

Catlea's latest single, Crumbling , thematically harps on the subjects of self-discovery and pertinacity – with the budding star declaring "To those who are lost: we can always find ourselves again, no matter how many times we may crumble". The track features a delicate touch of piano from Nick Tsang, known for his previous work with Ed Sheeran, Lewis Capaldi, and The Script, acting as a musical catalyst that brings the most out of Catlea's vocals and emotive creativity on this track. Their eclectic style demonstrates the parallels of emotional vulnerability and playfulness, drawing listeners in with a fun take on some of life's deeper topics. Crumbling is a vocal dance banger with a classic four-on-the-floor drumbeat, perfectly fit for any club scene. There is a lush atmosphere surrounding the intricately layered synths heard throughout, with plenty of space for Catlea's vocals to justifiably shine through. The inclusion of a dark piano track adds a nice contrast to the more angelic, breathy vocals – while the acoustic guitar, an element not often heard in dance music, serves to deepen the complexity of this tune's instrumentation. During the hooks, there is a flavor of acoustic strumming that adds a refreshingly organic touch of artistry to this track – further elevating the level of artistry attached to Crumbling and making it a single worth listening to at max volume. The pride of Cincinatti, Catlea, is an immensely talented singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist recording out of PLAY Audio while working closely with Jason Boshoff at Room to Studios in Barcelona, Spain. Catlea's powerful vocals and enigmatic sound provide listeners with a uniquely enjoyable auditory experience that is meant to enrich the moments "in between the busy events in life". The young star's talent has already begun to shine through and earn the attention of prominent music publications like Happy Magazine, Plastic Magazine, and CLOUT. • Review: "side bitch" - SLAJER

Finding out you're someone's second choice is a hard pill to swallow, leaving you with a plethora of strong emotions that are difficult to navigate. It leaves you wondering whether you'll ever be their first choice or why you're not good enough for them. SLAJER captures this pain and frustration in his addictive new single, "side bitch." The track is a vulnerable LGBTQ+ alt-pop banger, telling the story of SLAJER breaking his back to please someone who will never reciprocate or appreciate the effort. "side bitch" gives listeners a raw look into the singer's psyche, shedding light on what it's like to care for someone who only takes but never gives. Mysterious and moody, "side bitch" is a genre-bending masterpiece as SLAJER blends elements of dark-pop, electronica, alt-pop, alt-rock, and pop-punk. The intoxicating track is cathartic as SLAJER's arresting vocals release his pent-up frustration over being an option for someone rather than their first choice. SLAJER is accompanied by a brooding, aggressive soundscape comprised of heavy synths, infectious dance beats, and face-melting guitar riffs. Channeling some inspiration from pop icons, "side bitch" is perfect for fans of Adam Lambert , Billie Eilish , Olivia Rodrigo , and Troye Sivan . Performing under the name SLAJER, Jon Slajer is a singer-songwriter based in the U.S. known for his powerhouse vocals and dance-influenced production. He got his start in the entertainment industry as a dancer, appearing in several short films and as a background dancer for BTS in L.A. on their "Permission to Dance" tour. • EP Review: "All Kinds Of Light" - Hayden Calnin

Indie Folk Singer/Songwriter, Multi-Instrumentalist and Producer from Melbourne, Australia, Hayden Calnin has just released his EP, "All Kinds Of Light", inspired by the culture and scenery he experienced during a three week trip to Colombia in South America back in 2023. TRACKLIST Greetings at Majuy Majuy  All These Kinds Of Light  As Above, So Below La Peña de Juaica  Lake Tota   Mornings in Tabio Mornings in Tabio II Hayden Calnin has spent much of his career writing and producing for others, most notably being the co-writer of "Falling Up" by Dean Lewis and having songs featured on hit TV shows like The Good Doctor , The Vampire Diaries , and So You Think You Can Dance . However, he has such an incredible discography as a solo artist, and a unique, individual sound that you wouldn't be able to find anywhere else. He first broke through in 2012 with his debut EP, "City", which featured his fan favorite song, "For My Help". For these past 12 years, Hayden has been consistently releasing his own music, working with other artists, and performing on stage. "All Kinds of Light" adds on to his already impressive and diverse discography, introducing his listeners to a new ethereal experience that helps you visualize the beautiful sights of Colombia. Greetings at Majuy We kick off the EP with "Greetings at Majuy". Majuy is a mountain in the Andes mountain region in Colombia. This track is a cenematic, orchestral / choral type of experience that I wish could be better explained through words. Honestly, when I began listening to this, I was taken aback by how beautiful it was and I just had to close my eyes and enjoy what I was experiencing. It started out with a gorgeous variety of strings and a heavy drum. You can imagine a drone camera flying over these Colombian mountains that Hayden was so inspired by. This track felt like an introduction to what was about to be an incredible, action and drama filled Oscar -winning movie. As the song went on, in came the choral vocals and the cathartic feeling I had in my chest was so intense. It's been a while since I've heard something so beautiful created in this modern age. Talk about a introduction; I can't wait to hear what else is next. Majuy  Coming right after "Greetings at Majuy", we connect right into the lead single and track two, "Majuy". Released 4 months ago in anticipation for this EP, "Majuy" sets the scene for what was to come for Hayden's life changing experience in Colombia. He sings, "reset and I've lost all worry". This song gives the impression that once Hayden was in the calming, beautiful atmosphere of the Andes mountains, all of his stress just faded away. He was able to start fresh with a clear mind, and begin a spiritual journey. This song has a stomping rhythm with layered vocals, it was a bit reminiscent of Imagine Dragons for me; however, although it's completely it's own unique song, you can still hear some Easter eggs and connections to "Greetings at Majuy" blended within the soundscape. Funny enough too, within the music video below, there is in fact a drone camera flying over the Majuy mountain just as I imagined while I was listening to "Greetings at Majuy". All These Kinds Of Light  Resting at track number three is the title track, "All These Kinds of Light" which was also released as the third single in anticipation for the EP release. This song sounds like what glowing, gleaming, shining and sparkling lights look like, if you know what I mean. The varieties of guitar and bright strings as the song builds with drums, bass and piano, brings a visual to exactly what the song is about - a celebration of the beauty of light. Hayden describes this track as a summary for what the EP is for, which explains why he made it the title track. As Above, So Below "As Above, So Below" references the ancient spiritual saying that reminds us that everything between us and the divine are connected. This song follows Hayden in his spiritual journey and his newfound open-mindedness when it comes to magical things. “I'm converting from this very science-backed brain to quite the opposite and becoming a believer in magical things. I’m not just relying on physics to explain it all. It's all about how adopting this new perspective has shaped the way I’m thinking.” - Hayden . "As Above, So Below" was released as the fourth single before the EP release and features a very Bon Iver -esque folk soundscape with piano, strings and layers of raw, emotional harmonies and vocals. La Peña de Juaica  "La Peña de Juaica" is another mountain range that rests near Majuy in Colombia. This track is an instrumental interlude, a little break in the EP if you will. Very similar to "Greetings at Majuy", it's a stunning, orchestral, heavenly experience that makes you feel like you're floating outside of your body. This one features gentle piano, woodwinds, strings and more of those sparkling windchimes. It's supposed to sound like what looking at these mountains felt like to Hayden. Have you ever heard something so beautiful that you just can't help but cry? This is one of those songs, so make sure to grab a box of tissues before you press play. Lake Tota   Next we have "Late Tota", the second single release for this EP. Lake Tota is the largest lake in Colombia, and while visiting, Hayden was highly inspired by its beauty. “It's a majestic part of the country. The way the light goes through the trees and reflects on the water, and the sunsets and sunrises, it all just felt different. I couldn't put my finger on why. It very much inspired the song because I was so drawn to the way the light was.” - Hayden . It's another stunning folk song, filled with acoustic guitar, strings and piano. It takes a chanting approach in it's hook with clapping which makes you want to join right in. Towards the end, it has a gorgeous break down that makes it feel almost like a brand new song and brings a whole new emotion. Mornings in Tabio Considered a focus track, "Mornings in Tabio" just recently got it's own lyric video after the EP dropped! Tabio is a little mountain town in Colombia, which is where I imagine is one of the places Hayden must've stayed during his incredible trip. Listening to "Mornings in Tabio", this is what it must've been like waking up everyday for Hayden while he was there. You can tell just how much he needed this getaway, and how much it impacted him and changed his outlook on life. We all need a little time away from our everyday lives and this time was extra special for Hayden - what sets him apart from the common person though, is he knows how to take these experiences and he turns them into beautiful sounds and songs. Featuring a bit of that "stomp clap" type of folk groove and springy acoustic guitar, this song feels like a taking in a breath of fresh air. Mornings in Tabio II "Mornings in Tabio II" is literally a continuation of "Mornings in Tabio". It's an extension, taking the song to a whole new, spiritual type of level. About half way through, it switches into an orchestral type of instrumentation, ending the EP in the same way it started; except this time, you feel left a little bit haunted because you know that Hayden never wanted this incredible experience to end. It is such a beautiful thing how nature not only can inspire human-beings, but heal us in a way that we may never understand. Hayden Calnin's trip to the Colombian mountain's sparked something inside of him that helped him create this incredible work of art that we now know as the "All Kinds Of Light" EP. There are no words to describe how powerful and divine the music on this EP is, you just simply have to listen. Hayden Calnin has always been an incredibly talented artist, but I think he just took a step into a whole new realm of something that can take him on a journey towards things that are beyond greatness. It truly is a magical feeling to listen to "All Kinds of Light", and I can't wait to hear what comes next. Make sure to follow Hayden below to keep up! • Review: "Be Your Friend" - Evalina

Evalina knows all too well the feeling of being led on, and with one listen to her new single “Be Your Friend”, you will too. Her lyricism depicts the scene perfectly, and the disappointed feelings you are left with in the fall out. Based on a true story for Evalina, the track follows her path of heartbreak after learning that her romantic feelings were not reciprocated. The heartbreak gradually turns into anger and frustration, both at her potential partner and at herself, for not realizing the platonic meaning behind their friendship. Her emotions shine through in her intense vocals, both in the words themselves and in the vocalizations behind the chorus. She also allows herself to riff around at the end of the outro, signifying her irritation at the entire scenario. The title shines through in the chorus, when she tells her almost-partner that she does not want to be his friend - she wanted to be more. The opening verse sets the scene right away, and has lyrics that tell the situation for exactly what it is. Evalina sings, “I don’t have a word for what you are / ‘Cause you’re not my ex not even a friend, well not anymore / And I don’t have the right to a broken heart / Don’t mean it doesn't hurt / hurt just as much, maybe more”. She scolds herself for feeling this way, and yet acknowledges the fact that she is in pain. My personal favorite lyric is sung in the second verse: “Can’t even be mad with you ‘cause you were never mine / But surely you knew that I was yours / And I still care”. This line is so simple and yet so hard hitting. She wants to give him the benefit of the doubt for not knowing the pain he is causing her, but deep down she knows that he was aware of her feelings and the way they would leave her scarred. Evalina is no stranger to the British music industry, being a constant on BBC Music Introducing and having every single release of hers named Record of the Day. She has over 36k monthly Spotify streamers, with multiple singles released. Her most listened to track is “Know Better”, which has almost 8 million listens. Despite the fact that her songs deal with personal issues and real emotions, her sound is pop and upbeat, giving a similar vibe to Tate McRae’s music: feminine and electronic, while discussing a heartfelt issue. • Review: "Petty Drama" - GRAVA

The fantastic GRAVA brings us a scornful tune with a playful twist in her new single, "Petty Drama". We've all dealt with troublemakers in our lives: the type of people who just can't let things go, those who love to start rumors, the types who make a mountain out of a molehill. It can be so exhausting! "Petty Drama" comes from the perspective of someone who is beyond done dealing with childish games. It's a loud response, calling all those drama queens and kings out on their nonsense. GRAVA further emphasizes her point by taking every shot she can back at the antagonist, and it is truly a delightful ride. Listen to "Petty Drama" on Spotify now!! "Petty Drama" uses some of the most creative production to follow up its edgy lyrics. The entire track contains themes of a play or circus, adding to the idea that the person GRAVA is speaking to is a clown, which is hilarious honestly. It mixes in typical pop instruments like electric guitar and synth, making for an upbeat vibe. It's giving 2000s girl power vibes and I am so here for it. I can definitely see my previous teenage self playing this on repeat on my old iPod nano. It's highly reminiscent of songs by strong female artists like Pink, Skye Sweetnam, and Olivia Rodrigo. Nashville, TN-based pop artist, GRAVA grew up with a passion for music. Having released her first song when she was just 10 years old, GRAVA has had a long time to practice her craft. She has become a multi-instrumentalist specializing in piano, guitar, and vocals. GRAVA has made a name for herself with her edgy and villainous writing style, setting her music aside from the typical bubblegum pop scene. She's always been an incredible storyteller, with her early releases being just as captivating as the current ones. If you haven't explored her discography yet, there's some really great stuff in there! Show GRAVA some love and listen to "Petty Drama" on your favorite streaming service! • Review: "Hungover You" - Ricky40

Ricky40 expresses the hardships and heartbreak that came following a past breakup on his song "Hungover You", and how much it affected him. Using drugs as a suppressant, he felt as though it was the only way he could stop thinking about his past relationship. When this did not work, he continued to drink alcohol so he could try to forget what happened, but was still unable to. The title of Ricky40's newest song is a double entendre, and defines the central theme; not only is he missing the person he used to be with, but he is also drinking to cope with these persistent feelings. Ricky40 battled addiction for years, and has said he feels lucky to still be alive. Even though he had struggled through this very dark time in his life, he see's this song as a positive thing to come out of the situation. He hopes others can relate to "Hungover You" and is doing a lot better now. "Hungover You" sonically mixes the aesthetics of space and summer into one track. During the verses, underneath a classic and catchy beat, an assortment of sound effects made from synths that are resembling of a spaceship are slightly reverberated to make you feel like you are floating through the galaxy while you are listening to the song, using the pop genre and mixing it with some psychedelic influences. During the chorus, catchy guitar strings are introduced to the song before the beat picks up. Ricky40 provides harmonies throughout the song, which shows his amazing voice and wide vocal range. It is without a doubt that San Francisco native Ricky40 is a star in the making. With a song like "Hungover You", it's no surprise he released another great song previous to this, "Ugly", in April 2024. He has worked with Dave Tozer after deciding to make music, moving to Los Angeles to do so. On "Hungover You", Ricky40 opened up about his struggles with addiction, and plans on making more songs about what he has gone through in hopes he can reach out to others who have gone through similar experiences. It will be no surprise if Ricky40's music suddenly blows up in the near future. Written By Ashley Adams FOLLOW RICKY40: Instagram | Spotify  | TikTok  | Apple Music  | YouTube

  • Review: "Avalanche" - BAYEM

BAYEM comes in swinging with the lyrics and tone of his latest single. Its energetic feel is heightened by the hopeful demeanor BAYEM displays in the song. “Do you wanna try something new? Do you want the full magnitude? Do you wanna make each other feel so high?” BAYEM puts the ball in his newfound love’s court as he asks what they’re wanting out of this new relationship. From the first listen, I felt strong The Weeknd vibes as in the infectious melody came to the forefront of my brain. There’s a slight moment of anticipation as the lyrics come in at the beginning of the song and then BAYEM’s voice booms into the listener’s ears and an “Avalanche” has begun, indeed. “AVALANCHE is a heart-pounding anthem about the intoxication of young love, with a musical backdrop evoking the pulsating drive of post-new wave synth rock.” This description certainly factors in the energy conveyed in the single. The fast-paced nature of the song leads to the idea of an avalanche, a sudden change, much like experiencing an all-encompassing love, even puppy love. “Well, you’re moving quick and I’m sinking in, you’re like an avalanche.” Ah, the rush of young love, indeed. Everything seems so fast-paced, and nothing seems to matter but the here-and-now. Even the idea of making each other feel “high” is such a keen fixation on something that is fleeting, but, in the throes of a budding relationship, your mind can only focus on “now, now, now” - what are they doing now? Are they thinking about me? Should I contact them? Am I being too clingy? What will we do next together? “Caught my heart adrift, and I start to slip, you’re like an avalanche.” So, we have the physical component, and emotions are being mixed into this equation involving sudden strong feelings about another person and we the listener are hoping that the feelings are mutual between BAYEM and the love interest in question. At any rate, the tempo of this song paired with BAYEM’s powerful voice, and these lyrics makes the listener feel as though they’re also experiencing this relationship and sliding into a new romance. BAYEM is a 25 –year-old producer/singer hailing from Indianapolis, Indiana. With many of his initial debut live shows already sold out, these days, BAYEM as well as his loyal fans, have his debut live L.A. performance this fall, October 16th to be exact, to look forward to. With this announcement, BAYEM also teased that there is “much more” to be announced and soon. The passion that BAYEM sings with shines through in his music and, as the listener, we have a knowing that music is a true passion of his. BAYEM’s musical style has been described as electro and alt-pop. I do feel that this is showcased in “Avalanche” as it isn’t your typical love song, neither by the music, lyrics, or BAYEM’s voice. The production behind this song is seen, felt, and heard - “Avalanche” is in the race and it ain’t going for second place. This summertime bop is in league of its own as something that’s sure to have listeners singing along in no time. BAYEM’s online presence hosts thousands of followers across all of his social medias as well as 13,000 monthly listeners on Spotify. • Review: "Greatness" - Olive Louise

“Greatness”, Olive Louise’s latest release, is an intimidating spectacle of skill, both in persona and artistry.  The song is centered around a manipulative conversation in which Olive convinces her subject as well as the listener of her stated greatness.  But, she proves this greatness with the piece’s existence in itself.  Her convincing of greatness appears to be a falsity, and yet the way in which she states it and her talent appearing in the music confirm it to be true.  It’s confident and illustrious, a siren song which immediately calls the listener in.  “Greatness” is a perfect first listen, a piece advertising not only her skill but herself. The song begins with a mischievous, gloomy beat which invites in the listener nearly as much as her words.  It’s jazzy and seductive, an unlabeled genre which allows Olive freedom to compose around it.  When she begins singing, the music pauses for a moment, allowing her the center stage her lyrics tell she’s earned.  Those instrumentals change their course after her first vocals, intensifying, and following her singing.  Each element of “Greatness” is unique, with her backgrounds being carefully curated to add to the atmosphere she creates.  Every piece falls together beautifully and inventively.   Olive Louise is a singer and songwriter hailing originally from New York.  Her classical yet unique approach to her music was found first in her childhood there, where her mother taught her violin as well as piano from early on.  Her interest was peaked in these lessons, but her independent exploration of music began in her attendance of Interlochen in Michigan, a boarding school.  There, she studied opera, finding her voice both in class and in her free time following it, when she would use the practice rooms to write the first of her original songs.  She’s been releasing original pieces since 2019, garnering a following with each, which can be found below as well as updates on what’s to come. • Review: "Can't Be Friends" - Jenna Kay

It’s a distinct kind of resilience and suppression when we find ourselves infatuated with those already in relationships. The complexity of having to move on from this person while our hearts still whisper a susurration of attraction despite the unfortunate reality of such a heartbreak. Staying friends with this person would cause almost tempestuous damage, doing more harm than good due to the simple fact that it would be nearly impossible to stay friends when our hearts know the truth of our unfulfilled feelings of love. It would be a constant battle, fighting off our true feelings, masking them behind fake emotions, and pretending we’re completely okay with staying friends rather than acting on our true feelings. Jenna Kay, in her recent single titled “Can’t Be Friends” depicts similar complex emotions in the form of a song where Jenna utilizes her story-telling abilities to create a scenario that a plethora of listeners could possibly find themselves relating to. Jenna also perfectly captures the pain of having to let go and set aside those burgeoning feelings of deep emotion. This song serves as an almost experimentation for our artist, Jenna, where she explores a more seductive-like tune that sets her apart from her usual sound. Despite this sound being something Jenna was only testing the waters in, the song’s innate charm and catchy tune are absolutely undeniable. The lyrics flow effortlessly with the melody which makes it so easy for listeners to sing along, repeating the lyrics like a mantra, the catchy tempo encouraging us to move our heads along to the infectious beat. Jenna’s voice serves as another instrument in itself, perfuming the space with such vehement emotion that only adds to the powerful lyrics– provoking listeners with similar emotions the song describes, resonating with former recollections. As I listened to the song, I recognized just how much a song like this could resonate with so many listeners. Yet, not only is it a song listeners would find themselves relating to, but also one that listeners can find themselves enjoying– with the ambiance Jenna had so exceptionally created through her talented story-telling skills that provoke deep emotions in her listeners.  Jenna Kay is a singer and songwriter who resonates with music genres like pop, indie, and pop rock. Singing is something Jenna had always been infatuated with since she was just eight years young! She was practically bound to a stage with a mic in her hand. Since graduation, Jenna has been specializing her musical talents in her hometown of Nashville, successfully releasing multiple singles on all music platforms to share with her listeners her story and exceptional talents as a young and passionate artist. Jenna plans to release her first EP titled “Icing on the Cake” in September of this year! • Review: "Fight With Me" - Dani Stocksdale

Raw honesty and vulnerability are some of the many elements in music that naturally draw me to specific songs. “Fight With Me” by Dani Stocksdale eloquently displays the singer’s emotional maturity and ability to convey her thoughts and feelings. Throughout the song, she pleads with her muse to tell her what they are thinking. She has been wearing her heart on her sleeve, being a “running faucet no one tries to turn off.” She is holding nothing back. Meanwhile, her subject will not do her the decency of returning the favor. In the chorus, she reveals the hook with the gut-wrenching lyrics: “Fight with me// So I can feel close to you// Try with me// When you don’t know what else to do// I just want to feel you.” Stocksdale confesses that she will take whatever she can get from them, even if it’s an argument. A blowup. A vicious fight. Because, at least then, it will show her they care. Right now, she is at her wit's end. She is exhausted, feeling like there is nothing she can do or say that will get through to them. Her pleading words echo across the listener's mind, making them experience the pain she has. Whether the song is about a romantic relationship or a platonic bond, “Fight With Me” beautifully encapsulates this experience of a drawn-out heartbreak and fleeting love. Once again, Stocksdale has solidified her place as one of my favorite newcomers to the music scene. I was introduced to Stocksdale a year ago when I had the pleasure of reviewing her debut single, “Swimming Pools.” Since then, it has been a pleasure seeing her grow as an artist. While her previous releases leaned more on the pop side of things, “Fight With Me” contains a more country-folk style. Her airy vocals perfectly complement this stunning production, making it one of my favorite releases of the season. The intro contains mesmerizing vocalizations that effortlessly flow into the whimsical soundscape. In the background, crickets are heard chirping, emulating the feeling of a cool summer night. This instantly sets the soothing atmosphere of the gorgeous track. The guitar is in drop D tuning and is played using fingerstyle alongside a violin that utilizes effects to fade in and out. The transition into the pre-chorus introduces an electric guitar and additional layered violins without the effects before adding the percussion and bass, all providing an additional dynamic to the song. When the chorus starts, a pedal steel guitar leads the transition and the percussion picks up a sand hammer instrument, increasing the layers of the production. The fingerstyle stops while a great emphasis is placed on the electric guitar chords. By the end of the chorus, the listener is completely immersed in the complex yet comforting soundscape, as they hang onto every note. The song is a flawless masterpiece that effortlessly lulls the listener as they resonate with the meaningful and heartbreaking lyrics.  If “Fight With Me” is any indication of where Stocksdale's music is headed, then I am on the edge of my seat in anticipation of her next releases. Dani Stocksdale is a 23-year-old independent pop artist based in New York City. She made her debut in August 2023 with her single, “Swimming Pools.” "Fight With Me" is her fourth single and the first release of her upcoming project. She aspires to create music that is authentic to who she is and tells a relatable story for listeners. With her insightful lyricism and honest vulnerability, she utilizes her personal experiences, from relationships to self-discovery, to connect with audiences. Stocksdale has performed at prominent New York City venues, such as Mercury Lounge, Baby’s Alright, Rockwood Music Hall, The Cutting Room, and Arlene’s Grocery. From Prince's " Purple Rain " to Neil Diamond’s " Sweet Caroline ," with the name "Caroline" ringing out in the electrified chorus, Herron's single is a highly energized rush. It is exhilarating and riotous, demanding your attention with its invigorated spirit. “Caroline” overflows with catchy feel-good lyrics and electric hooks that take you on a thrilling ride of love and youth. Consumed by love and infatuation, Herron’s grungy lovesick single is a series of exclaimed love proclamations and clever lyrical lines. The song plays, “She danced to “Purple Rain” in a plain white tee / And like a teenage dream, yeah, she smiled at me / And said, ‘Don’t go breaking my heart.’” Herron references Springsteen's " Born to Run " and Alphaville's " Forever Young ," catapulting his song into a memorable wave of 70's and 80's nostalgia. “If you wanna fall in love / We could be forever young / Baby, we were born to run,” Herron passionately shouts. With a punkish flair and headbanging guitar riffs, "caroline" is more excitingly rambunctious than sweet, adding to its rocky edge and electrified currents undulating throughout the song. It's the modern pop-rock equivalent of Diamond's “Sweet Caroline,” with cranked and amplified music, booming drums, and quick strums. Yet the song still holds bittersweet lyrics of "paradise" on summer nights and a mesmerizing voice from the object of his affection. The track as a whole is lively and energetic, soaring on the highs of passionate love but brought lower by its grungy sounds. Herron’s voice is strong and enthusiastic, almost shouting the words with the powerful instrumentals behind him urging him forward. The song is reminiscent of heartthrob bands such as 5SOS and One Direction , whose music follows the same fun and upbeat tuning. A flawless assembling of instruments and lyrics, “caroline” is an exemplary pop-rock song within its genre. Standing on his own as an independent artist, Zach Herron excitedly marks his path with “caroline” as his first breakout single since his time with his band Why Don’t We. At age 15, the artist became part of the soon-to-be Billboard charting band and garnered immense success that came in the form of 6 billion global career streams, two RIAA platinum-certified singles, and five RIAA gold-certified singles. Along with his band, Herron has visited and performed at multiple famous venues and sold-out tours over the course of his six years playing in the band. During this time, the band collaborated with prominent artists such as Ed Sheeran , LAUV , Macklemore , and Jonas Blue . After the band, Herron recalls the excitement that followed in his music-making journey in exploring and finding his sound. Teaming up with producer/writer Mitch Allan, known for his genius on hits like " Heart Attack " by Demi Lovato and “ Want To Want Me ” by Jason Derulo , Herron has felt nothing but joy and eagerness in his making and release of “caroline.” With this release, his highly anticipated pop-rock hit not only meets our grand expectations but exceeds them with overwhelming satisfaction and exaltation.
