Get lost in the beautiful unknown with the vivacious pop-dance track “Blue Light” by artist Laila. “Blue Light” takes listeners on a journey through a cautionary tale that details both the confusion and awe behind a thrilling, young relationship. Laila dives into the story headfirst, laying out the relationship from start to finish from the moment “Blue Light” begins playing. Meeting at a time when she feels courageous & curious, Laila describes meeting someone who she once had a fun connection with and is now left grieving the relationship. Although she acknowledges that some of the choices she made with this person were mistakes, ultimately, she is left on her own to figure out how to prevent something like that happening to her again moving forward. While “Blue Light” includes unfortunate circumstances, the song overall reminds me of a feeling of lightheartedness & ease that comes with the summer season. Carefree and whimsical in nature, the track urges you to dance and serves as a gentle reminder to trust your gut.

“Blue Light” embodies a common, persistent issue in society – people not stepping up for others when they need to. While Laila recognizes that this connection is not rooted in something serious, the partner being spoken about in “Blue Light” consistently leaves her on her own and only pays attention to her when it benefits them. This behavior is unfortunately very recognizable in society today and Laila’s emotion in this song, alongside the dance-pop sound of “Blue Light”, makes the track exactly how it should be. Similar to young relationships, “Blue Light” explores difference and leaves you wondering what’s next as you’re listening to it. While it’s a fun, energetic piece of pop music, it delves into subject matter that is below the surface. Laila beautifully displays how a relationship, even if two people aren’t committed to one another and/or are just “having fun”, needs to have proper communication and trust in the other person. This aspect not only sets “Blue Light” apart from “pop break up” songs, but additionally shows her personality and ability to dive into emotion while writing.
