There's nothing I love more than when we're able to map one topic onto another in order to get our point across. It's long a metaphor that's been stretched out from beginning to end to really allow the audience to understand where the author is coming from. It shows that the writing is coming from a place of intelligence from the writer. Lucy Frost is flexing those skills with their new single, "Prescription" which takes shows us how addicting love and emotion can be. There's a bit of irony with how full and optimistic the sound of this song leads on to be making it sound like a warm day in the sun but the lyrics are as cold as winter.
The beginning of this song and the middle of it sound like two completely different ones. When the song begins, we hear Lucy's voice alongside an acoustic guitar where we hear their authenicity. The chorus is big and so beautiful. It feels almost like a flower that has finally bloomed. Personally, I'm someone who absolutely love words in all their glory and this song gives me that fix - no pun intended. Lucy does such a brilliant job at setting the idea in the beginning of mapping prescription reliability and love. The chorus' lyrics map what a withdrawal feels like using words like "crave" and "feeling the high" in the prechorus while talking about, "my body starts to shake" in the beginning of the chorus. Such a brilliant way to take a topic that we've talked about time and time again but doing it uniquely.
Lucy Frost is a singer-songwrtier and composer from Boston who has been breaking genre boundaries left and right with each new song that comes out. Lucy is known for having lyrics that allow relatability with listeners as well as having darker undertones which feed into the emotional element of their musicianship. Having a background in film scoring and being a multi-instrumentalist allows Lucy to experiment with different genres giving them their unique sound. Lucy's recent releases, "Reputation" and "Amnesia" are also available on all streaming platforms.
