For all my dramatic kings and queens, that includes myself, we’ve all had that internal fight. That recurring question of: why are we so dramatic? Well, Jemma Johnson has another smashing song to speak of this tale! “So Dramatic” explains her personal fight of asking that same question in the middle of a panic attack. Pushing down that anxiety can only do so much, until it EXPLODES. This song takes us through that experience, with Jemma leading us through the trenches into the light. I know when I feel like I’m overreacting, I need that song to calm me and also touch me in a way where I know I’m not the only one going through this. This is THE ONE!
This song is very groovy, easy to dance to. Right at the beginning, it starts off with quick guitar plucks. Behind it is a thick bass line, thumping along to her vocals. The percussion is chained as well, with spacious headroom in the high ranges, complimenting her voice. Speaking of, Jemma was very expressive, with laughing effects and fluctuating notes. Her grace notes were also beautiful, with them accentuating the chorus. Towards the end of the song, one of the key elements that stood out to me was the violin. It created such a dramatic progression toward the finale, that perfectly tied the song together.
Jemma Johnson is a up and coming singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist based out of Derby, United Kingdom. She has amassed over 20 million streams within Spotify, and over 65 thousand subscribers on YouTube. While experimenting with her take on alternative pop, she has been gigging with a variety of artists such as Charlie Simpson, Beth McCarthy, James Walsh, and more! She had ton of festivals in 2024 like Tramlines, Y-Not, The Rising, and her own gig in France: MiCannes Festival. After “Obsessed” (which I ADORED), she has been releasing songs following similar vibes such as “Good Guy” and “Come to the Dark Side”. She continues turning heads and coming out with unforgettable hits! If you loved this song as much as I did and are ready for more, be sure to follow her with the links down below!
