Gobe elevates the emotional intensity in his music from the pop-punk rockers to the club crowd, through hyperpop fusion, in his recent single “SOFTLY.” Gobe knows how to play the chords that cut straight through the heart. Now, he’s mixing the angst with the electro-world, where pain follows you from your poster-filled bedroom to the strobe-lit bar. Blunt confessions and sentimental love-letter lines dig into the complex reactions that relationships pull from us. He sings, “You love so softly/ Feel you calling far away/ You might have lost me/ But our memories will stay.” The affection from his past relationship lingers, despite the place he finds himself in—just how the intimacy in his music exists despite the new sound.
When an artist leaps from raw, acoustic tones to experimental electronic music, the change can be risky. Gobe lands on higher ground. The clubbing bass in Charli XCX’s Von Dutch meets the romanticism and pop-punk chords in Dutch Melrose and Benny Mayne’s Pretty Please. Heavy, distorted guitar is the song’s foundation. The strumming pattern controls the energy, shifting from reflective to wild. In collaboration with songwriter and producer Flourish, “SOFTLY” indulges in wobbly bass, vocal glitches, and ringing synthesizers. These boost the force of this fever. Gobe’s voice belongs in this genre; it’s addictive. “SOFTLY” dares you to dance, jump, bang your head, and pump your fists. Let the heartache lead you somewhere else.
Love, drugs, and relationships are the core of the Florida-raised artist’s music. Gobe’s debut album, End to A Beginning, featured lo-fi production. His next album, i will die in florida, released in 2024, honed in on the introspective element of his music and laid-back vibes, reminiscent of Mac Miller’s discography. Gobe’s recent singles play with the pop-punk elements, plugging in the amps and pressing down the pedal. His passion lies in songwriting, producing, and DJing.
