Review: "Surrender" - Zach Churchill

Especially nowadays, everyone knows what it feels like to struggle with something, whether it's past trauma, addiction, burnout from over working or current situations. We get stuck in this constant feeling of hopelessness and pain that we try to cover up with a smile. It's hard waking up everyday and nothing ever changes, in our minds AND in our lives. "Surrender" by Zach Churchill speaks for all of us who deal with these dark feelings. The not wanting to get out bed, wishing you weren't feeling so crappy, not being motivated - we wonder what even is the point in anything? We get stuck in these thoughts, almost like a meditative state where we lay in bed and just overthink. But it's okay to feel sad, and it's definitely okay to take time for yourself. All we can do is hope that one day these feelings will reside.

Zach gives a pop/rock feel in this particular song. The song consists of dark chords played by bass and guitar in unison. It really gives off the emotion of what the song is about. Zach's vocals are filled to the brim with emotion and presence. The way he can show us how he feels with only the sound and use of his voice is pure talent. The lyrics are so descriptive, and they repeat throughout the song giving the sense of being stuck in this constant repetitive state. BUT - as the song progresses, so does the music itself. The instrumentation builds, and almost gives off this sense of hope and strength, like you're trying to break out of these difficult thoughts. It may seem impossible to get out of it now, but if you give it time, you can work your way out eventually.

Zach Churchill is a singer/songwriter currently based in LA. Zach brilliantly writes about his journey and struggles in life, in which he shares with the world. His music is something a lot of people can relate to, and he makes us feel like we're not alone. 'Surrender' is his lead single for his upcoming album, 'Greater Than' coming this fall on October 28th. His second single for this album, 'Hover' featuring Jessica Vines, is also out right now so go take a listen! You'll love it just as much as this one.
