  • Review: "Start Over" - Francesca Everly

"Start Over" by Francesca Everly is an honest message to an ex-lover, assuring them that their breakup was the right thing to do. Exploring the contradictory thoughts and feelings that come after ending a relationship with someone you truly still love, this reassuring track lets listeners know that doing what's best isn't always easy. It expresses how love is not enough to sustain a healthy relationship with lyrics like "say you need me to change, but I didn't" demonstrating incompatibility rather than assigning blame for a situation. Repeating the positives of starting anew, this motivational track takes on struggles of heartache and perseverance for your own sake. A gentle piano melody joins percussive acoustic guitar as Francesca's soft, expressive vocals kick off the track. Moving from a solemn tune with emotive singing in the first verse to a higher, groovy chorus that brings an uplifting feeling of acceptance to the lyrics, this tune tells a story. The melody has a textured soft pop rock sound reminiscent of The 1975, with dynamic percussion picking up in the chorus and layered vocals working throughout the track that emphasize the emotions of reflection that cycles through the lyrics. "Here Again" by Keegan Israel is a beautiful tune of devotion, marveling at the memories and sensations that come from a romantic love. Introspective questions beautifully package ideas of goodness and growth with words like "how do you start a sinner, live to deliver, and you never seem to tear?" • Review: "Petty" - Claudy

It’s advised by many people to simply “turn the other cheek” when it comes to situations where gossip is involved. Most of the time, the gossip being spread is partly exaggerated. Rumors. Petty conversation is utilized to simply get under our skin, and rouse a reaction out of us. Although it’s heavily urged to ignore the talk, it becomes increasingly difficult when the gossip is not only incessant but untrue. We find ourselves much more aggravated and incredulous when we learn that the messy rumors are filled with ignorance and intentions to desecrate someone. This riles up a reaction response, a need for satisfaction fills us where we suddenly want the person to face the consequences for spewing lies all for attention– wasting their energy on something so trivial. This is where many of us find the inclination to fight back and give the troublesome person their well-deserving and humbling experience. “Petty” by Claudy is a song about a similar situation where our singer, Claudy, labels herself as “Petty”, not at all shying away from that title, like how most would do. Instead, she holds the name with pride, candidly admitting that, yes, she is petty. Particularly to those who wish to spread lies, words filled with ignorance. The song opens up with an uplifting sound of solo piano keys following a rhythmic tempo that blends into something that sounds almost joyful and playful. As Claudy’s voice settles in, the message of the song becomes a bit more clear. Though it’s about being petty, and actively choosing to fight back with the person who wishes to spread lies, it’s almost as though Claudy is simply dancing around the debacle here– carefree, almost. Akin to the piano keys that open up in a carefree manner, Claudy nearly dances around the lyrics as she repeats “I’m petty, I’m petty”, in a way where she is almost warning the person of just how petty  she can truly be– taunting them. This is a certain scenario that a plethora of people can also find themselves in. Whether it's with friends, an ex, or even close loved ones. It’s one situation I have also found myself in many times. Lies being spread, assumptions being made– all to rouse a reaction, some even projecting. However, at the end of the day, the source behind such lies is never left untreated. People of all receive the consequences they deserve. Claudy, here, just so happens to be more than proud to voice her pettiness and argue back, just like many of us have. The nonchalant essence the sound conveys is virulent, prompting listeners to sing along. Claudy, the person behind the song, is a singer and songwriter based in London, originally from Switzerland. Claudy creates music that is a blend of both indie and pop, her lyrics having meaning and conveying emotion that mostly relates to situations she has encountered, and some that many people can find themselves resonating with as well. “Petty” is her most recent single release, however, Claudy also has more songs available, like one she released in 2023 titled “Anxiety” along with two more in 2022 and 2021 titled “Fight Me” and “Roller Coaster”. Claudy has a passion for singing and making music, sharing her passion with those on her social media, and posting covers of popular songs to share and exhibit her talents with her listeners. On her Instagram, she can be seen teasing her followers with snippets of songs she has in the works, showing off her amazing progress and her hard work behind the creation of music, the level of meticulous time put in to construct her music. As Claudy continues her musical journey, I can’t help but look forward to more of her work! To keep up with Claudy, follow her socials. Photo taken by The Dwyers Cover design by Parker Shay & Dream Park Visuals The opening and title track from Drew Schueler 's new EP, "It's Cool" is about living life and staying chill while following your dreams. In a world full of stress and anxiety, having to deal with painful situations, and the hardships that come with this, its important to relax and go with the flow. He harmonizes throughout "It's Cool" and sings the background vocals as well. Drew Schueler is a musician from and based in Nashville, Tennessee. He began releasing music in 2018 with his debut single "Open Water". In the same year, he released his debut EP New Perspective . • Review: "Urban Cowboy" - Cali Tucker

"Urban Cowboy" by Cali Tucker is a comforting track full of romantic whimsy and hope. This song takes on the fairytale narrative delivered to children with the love interest always being a charming and brilliant wonder. Inspiring listeners to keep their hopes alive for a love as beautiful as a fabled storybook, the song expresses that the speaker has found a man equivalent to the magical ones from stories. Opening with an entrancing blend of humming and fast-paced acoustic guitar strumming, this track will energize you with its story-like spirit. Cali's swanky, bold country-pop vocals work through the verse, accompanied by an exciting blend of percussive acoustic and electric guitar. The vocals grow louder and bolder in the chorus, showing off the power of Cal's singing, with a blend of catchy, rhythmic instrumentals in the background. • EP Review: "Things That They Don't Know" - Sarah Meyz

Brazilian Alternative Pop Artist, Music Producer and Harmonica player, Sarah Meyz has released her debut EP, "Things That They Don't Know", consisting of 3 tracks each named after an initial of someone who has negatively impacted her in her life. TRACKLIST F J S Sarah Meyz was born in Jundiai, Brazil where she was a musical prodigy. In 2012, she was awarded a scholarship from Lollapalooza and Berklee College of Music for a Summer Program at Berklee's Valencia campus in Spain. In 2013, she was one of eight people in the entire world to earn a full-ride scholarship to attend Berklee in Boston for their degree program. In 2019, Sarah graduated with a double Bachelor's in Music Production & Engineering and Vocal Performance. In 2021, she was the first Brazilian to join Abbey Road Studios ' engineering team and still works there today. She has done music production work on very notable films such as Society Of The Snow , Black Panther: Wakanda Forever , and Guillermo del Toro 's Pinocchio , as well as the song ‘I'm Just Ken’, sung by Ryan Gosling from the movie Barbie . Sarah released her first single "Never Have I Ever" in 2019, kicking off her solo artist career. She has performed and toured on some of the most well sought out stages, such as the Blue Note in New York, Bourbon Street and at Lollapalooza Brasil . She's inspired by artists like Arcade Fire , Muse , Coldplay , and Tears for Fears , but her dreamy alternative pop vibes have been compared to the likes of Lana Del Rey , Lorde and Grimes . The "Things That They Don't Know" EP is a concept project, featuring 3 tracks all recorded and self-produced in Sarah's home studio. Each song is titled with just one letter, an initial of someone that has hurt Sarah is some way. Each songs has it's own cover art and video that correlates with it's themes and story, fully immersing you into each separate narrative. Let's dive in. F We start off the EP with "F", a song about never feeling settled and comfortable. When you're someone who moves around a lot, it can be really exhausting. It's hard to make connections with people and find real friends that you can trust and keep in your life. Even though it can be lonely, you also gain a lot of life experience being on your own. You see the reality of things by watching how others live. You'll notice in the video and cover art, there's a chess board which holds a lot of symbolism for this song. We're all pawns in this game of life, just trying make it by. Some of people will do anything to be successful, even if it means lying or hurting others for their own personal gain. Sarah sings of being tired of dealing with people like that, letting all her thoughts and feelings out in this ear-catching indie-pop track. "F" has a nostalgic vibe, with dreamy layers of guitars and airy synths. The heavy reverb and Sarah's gentle vocals add to the retro tone, with a popping bass and a drum kit to give this song a very raw and real sound. J Next, we have "J", a very short and painfully tragic song about someone whom you once were close with, hurts you beyond repair. You're just so taken aback by how they could do something so horrible to destroy your respect for them, that the pain takes a second to kick in. There are some things that just can't be forgiven, and when someone betrays you to the point you feel like you could die from the heartbreak it caused, that's enough to justify never speaking to them again. Sarah expresses that this track was a very hard one to finish, because the emotions were so raw in the moment, but the track turned out perfect. Some of the best songs come from the most painful times. "J" features her unique, signature harmonica, a deep bass and a stunning acoustic guitar picking pattern. Sarah sings gorgeously with passionate emotion and soaring background vocals to add to the somber atmosphere. S Lastly, we have "S", a relatable dark electro-pop song about feeling like you're never doing enough. You're in a constant hurry to do more to satisfy the need to be "enough", but you never reach the end. It's exhausting, unrealistic, and numbing to your soul. You're unable to enjoy the moment, and all the little things in life because of all these constant worries. "S" uses dark pop and electronic elements in it's production to create this haunting but catchy soundscape. Sarah sings this addicting melody that catches your ear instantly. The whole entire vibe is perfectly crafted. "S" builds and builds until it reaches this cathartic climax where Sarah plays a harmonica solo for the high dynamic outro. The ending to this song is a whole experience within itself, but it's the perfect touch to bring the emotion to a brand new height. I think Sarah Meyz "Things That They Don't Know" EP is a brilliant concept, and it left me wanting more. It's just such a creative and original idea that I could see there being a whole album like this. Not only that, but Sarah has such a unique style and musical universe that is entirely her own, while at the same time managing to make each song sound like a completely different world to explore. The way she's able to make you feel intense emotion not just through lyrics and vocals, but through the actual music and production itself is such an incredibly rare talent to have as well. Sarah Meyz has something really special here, and I highly suggest if you enjoyed this EP to check out her other songs as well, including her recently released single not on this EP titled "Keep Down". • Review: "Don't Come Home For Thanksgiving" - Herine

“Don’t Come Home For Thanksgiving” by Herine is a song for her little brother. It reflects on the holidays and broken families, and understands that it’s not always best to celebrate with the people you love when that love is uncertain. The speaker of the song is coming to terms with the change in her family and the relationship with her brother, saying “I know we don’t talk like we used to and maybe it’s too much to talk through.” It’s a difficult truth to watch your parents grow apart, and having to watch your sibling go through that same heart-ache. It creates a new wedge and tension that you never wanted to have. Herine sings, “I’d do anything to make you listen to your overdramatic older sister.” Understanding the whole picture of a relationship, especially around the holidays, means valuing the people around you. When it seems no one can help the communication between two people, no matter how much you love and care about them, there comes a time that separation is for the best. This heartfelt, emotional track looks at the intensely complex situation of love, family and change. Soulful vocals and emotional piano reign in the heartfelt intensity of this pop track. With a flood of contradicting feelings shining through the lyrics, Herine’s high and expressive vocals capture the heart-wrenching meaning of the track. Throughout the verse, the singing feels like a conversation with breathy and deliberate voicing, building into a more tuneful and melodic sound in the pre-chorus before coming in full force in the chorus showing off her powerful range. Melismatically working through the word “home”, the vocals take on a flood of hesitance and contemplation felt by the song’s battle between the head and heart. Vocalizing and a piano melody close the track with a reflective sense of finality. Simple in its composition with piano and vocals, but powerful in its message, this somber pop song will play at your heartstrings. Herine is a Nashville-based musician with an intriguing indie pop sound. On top of her talents as a vocalist and lyricist, Herine is a multi-instrumentalist and talented performer. With performances on several occasions at the Sundance Film Festival in 2024, shows supported by Known Show at Nashville's Flamingo, and a song earning the top 50 spot on Mediabase's Activator chart, her music has caught the attention of live listeners and acclaimed platforms. • Review: "Wishing Well" - Ava Valianti

A sentimental dive into childhood whimsy, "Wishing Well" by Ava Valianti is a pensive exploration of youthful thinking. The song hangs on the memory of a park slide the speaker holds dear in her heart, delving into contemplations of play and fun, and mourning the slide's destruction along with the slowly dulled light of youth. With powerful metaphors, the lyrics detail the rough struggles of growing up with words like "my paper cuts still sting, and pills I still can't swallow." This track is a powerful journey of reflection, allowing listeners to feel comfortable in free-spirited open-mindedness. This alternative folk-pop song passionately builds in its sound, moving from a gentle and pensive sonic delve into memory and growing to a bold, loud expressive of individuality. Acoustic guitar brings a glowing brightness to the tune as Ava's high and entrancing vocals work rhythmically through the lyrics. Her singing carries a special folk sound, comfortably twisting through shining notes with a storytelling emotion to her tone. Soft vocalizing sounds in the background, adding to the enchanting atmosphere of the chorus. The sound of this song will make you feel warm with it's journey through sound and reflection. At one point, the instrumentals cut out and you'll feel transfixed by the singing before the instrumentals join back in with percussion, piano, and bolder guitar as the vocals gain a rounded, powerful depth. • Review: "The Moon is a Spaceship" - Joshua Golden

There’s nothing harder than watching the people you love the most go through a rough time. It’s even worse when it feels like there’s nothing you can do to help them. Joshua Golden shares his story through “The Moon is a Spaceship” and reminds listeners they are not alone. Mental illness is no joke. It can have a severe impact on a person’s life as well as the people around them. In this song, Joshua sings about his brother John’s experience with mental health and how that impacted their family. The song opens up with the lyrics “I came home to my brother washing his clothes in the mud/Haven’t spoken to him in a while, haven’t seen him in a month/It’s clear he lost some weight, and there’s scratches on his face”. It seems that there’s a stark contrast with John’s behavior from the last time Joshua saw him. He sings “That’s my family, my big brother/That’s my hero, that’s my blood/All I wanted as a kid was to be him when I grew up”, which are some of the most powerful lyrics in the song. It’s clear how much Joshua has always admired his brother and that they will always share an unbreakable connection. He will do anything to support his brother, but there is a bit of helplessness there. He might feel like there’s not enough he can do to support him. A hero can represent many things. Heroes are seen as the most strong and powerful people, but now, Joshua's hero is struggling. Joshua will always have the memories they shared growing up, but now there’s a shift in perspective. The brother he once knew is not the same, but now that they are older, he understands that John is human too with complex struggles that are beyond anyone’s control. There’s fear attached to these lyrics, and you can tell he would do anything to make it better. “Crying up to God, 'What the hell’s happening'” combines all the emotions Joshua feels. Calling out to God, or any higher power, is asking for a sign that will either comfort them or help them understand the situation. If you believe in any higher powers, they are supposed to help guide their followers. It’s symbolizing that he's reached a point where he feel powerless and in a true state of vulnerability. These lyrics reveal how deeply affected Joshua is by this situation.  “The Moon is a Spaceship” is a beautiful yet complex track that follows the emotional journey of love and loss in familial relationships. There’s a lot of symbolism represented throughout the lyrics, that although could be connected to personal experiences, I saw as a double meaning. For example, throughout the song Joshua sings that his brother believes he’s in space and is ready to fly. Space can represent a dark unknown place that his brother is entering where there’s no answers as to how things will work out in the long run. Depending how you look at it, flying can represent a negative or positive experience. Maybe when it’s time for John to fly, he will be free from the shackles of his suffering. “The casino in the sky” could reflect on personal struggles or represent that there are no answers. With gambling in a casino, it’s all up to chance. The casino could represent his brother’s mental health struggles. As Joshua is singing, you can hear the raw emotion in his voice, and you can tell how much he truly cares for his brother. This is a pop track but is layered on top of acoustic instrumentation. I’m not sure if this was an intentional production choice or not, but I love that Joshua’s vocals are at the forefront of the song because it allowed me as a listener to focus on the lyrics.  Joshua Golden is a pop singer and songwriter from St. Louis, Missouri. His songs are deeply personal, and he creates music from the heart. His songwriting is intimate and encompasses the polarizing emotions of the human experience. It’s safe to say the world agrees, because he has over 618,408 monthly listeners on Spotify as a verified artist. His music is very popular and his collaboration on “Another Life” by Surf Mesa ft. FLETCHER (and Joshua) has over 42,182,882 streams on the platform. He has gained a significant following across social media platforms like Instagram, Tik Tok, and YouTube with 1.2 million followers combined. He’s recently been signed to APG publishing, and has collaborated with huge artists such as Selena Gomez, Jennifer Lopez, Jason Derulo, 24kGoldn, and Charlie Puth to name a few. It’s clear that Joshua is a star. Check out “The Moon is a Spaceship” and give it a listen!  Written By Alexa LaMalfa FOLLOW JOSHUA GOLDEN: Instagram | Spotify  | TikTok  | Facebook  | YouTube

  • Review: "Bad Things Right" - Salt Ashes

“Bad Things Right” by artist Salt Ashes explores liberation and living life away from judgment. It’s an anthem that understands how rebellion may be necessary to live a life free from expectations that are only harmful. The alt-pop track is the aftermath of always being considered the “villain” and how this constant antagonization has left the speaker with no other solution but to show pride in their characterization. What’s great about “Bad Things Right” is it explodes with confidence, and it has the right amount of energy to empower those who often feel villainized and need a push to feel pride in who they are. There are a lot of fun artistic choices made with “Bad Things Right.” The little giggle in the beginning adds to the playful nature of the song. "Bad Things Right" was definitely made to dance to, the confidence that bleeds out of this song is incredibly infectious. What’s fun about the lyrical content is you can see a clear build-up in frustration as Salt Ashes narrates the tales others have spread about them and how that has developed into the acceptance of being the “villain.” The electronic elements are just so cool, and they sound so nice alongside Salt Ashes’ voice. She sounds so great on this track, and it truly brings this character she has created to life. With "Bad Things Right," Salt Ashes shows her audience that they should show pride in what others critique them for and that in order to be true to yourself you have to push against expectations. Salt Ashes, also known as Veiga Sanchez, began her musical journey in 2014. She has received lots of praise from different sources like The Guardian, Buzzfeed, DIY, and many more. Her album “Killing My Mind,” which was released in 2021, did very well and made it to the Top 10 of the iTunes Pop Album Charts. Additionally, Salt Ashes' other releases have done well, earning her spots in the Billboard Dance Charts and being played on BBC Radio 1. Throughout her career, she has built a loyal following and continues to excite listeners with the work she puts out. What “Bad Things Right” does well is it creates a safe space for those who are tired of being antagonized and are ready to find peace in doing what they want when they want it because there’s no use in following the standards of everyone else.
