- Review: "Hold Me" - Eraste
Photo Credits: Gaby Deimeke The dangerous part of falling in love comes from the possibility of that love never being returned. One of the most painful experiences one can go through is unrequited love, and it’s a feeling that carves your insides and makes you feel abandoned. New release by artist Eraste, “Hold Me,” explores the themes of wanting a person to stay with you and love you unconditionally, but instead, they leave. “Hold Me” balances the yearning for another person while also exposing the insecurities that come to light in situations like these. The synth pop anthem understands how one can blame themselves for the lack of partnership and it’s so beautifully executed. Using energetic synth-pop sounds, Eraste creates a whirlwind of emotions with “Hold Me” and it’s truly a great track to explore those insecurities that are drawn out when one falls in love. With a song of this specific theme, that classic approach may be a simple piano ballad, but the creative choice to turn this sad tale into a danceable pop track works so well. There’s so much energy in this song and it paints the inner conflict as to what took place and leads to the constant pleading for anyone to stay. The song’s style explores the frustration of this situation consistently repeating, and you can certainly hear that in some of the artistic choices made with the production of “Hold Me.” The chorus is incredibly catchy and perfectly gets the pain of the artist across with the constant begging for the other person to love them back. There’s a lot to love about Eraste’s voice, it's sweet yet dynamic. The harmonies are a nice touch and almost represent all the different thoughts that could be going on in a person’s head when they find all their insecurities coming to the surface. “Hold Me” is a wonderful presentation of unrequited love and it’s songs like these that allow us to reflect on how we consistently blame ourselves for these situations when it isn’t our fault at all. It shows the hardships of being young and falling in love and how things don’t always go the way we want. Eraste is a self-taught musician originally from Texas whose history as a worship leader influenced her musical talents. She was heavily influenced by 2010s pop and blended those sounds with her own introspective lyricism. In 2021 she released her EP Crashing Every Party which received high praise. She’s definitely the perfect artist for those who are a fan of other notable pop artists like MUNA, Chappell Roan, Halsey, and others alike. “Hold Me” is a part of her upcoming EP Memory of Us, and the single is certainly a great way to excite audiences for this new release. - Review: "MADNESS" - AYLA
If you've ever been manipulated by a partner, there's a song that will give you a vindicating taste of revenge with its power. "MADNESS" by AYLA is a heart-wrenching track about struggles with mental health and a relationship. These bold lyrics describe the internal struggles the speaker goes through with changes in their behavior and attitude. From there, we're let in on the reason the speaker finds themself so vulnerable: her significant other. The lyrics will have you invested in the plot and full of rage at the partner from lyrics like "don't tell me that I'm overthinking everything you said." These words empower you to feel bold and self-assured with a firm stand against gaslighting. Delicious and vindicating lyrics of revenge will captivate you with their clever phrasing and visceral imagery. This track blends AYLA's throaty, intimate vocals with a dark dance pop sound full of swagger. Heavy percussion gives the tune a sound of invigorating power that infuses movement and progression throughout the bold lyrics. Low and rhythmic singing delivers the verses, with a tantalizing vocal expression. The pre-chorus brings a high-pitched and haunting build towards the jazzy piano and catchy chorus in the chorus. Taunting and titillating, this bold track uses talk-singing that will make you feel empowered, giving the lyrics a captivatingly creepy mood. A string interlude with soft vocals draws out the intensity in the track before delving back into the edgy and invigorating chorus. This freeing and fun dark pop song will make you want to dance. AYLA is a Paris-born artist based in Germany with a wide musical range. Beyond her vocal and songwriting talents, she plays the piano, guitar, and harp. On top of music, she uses other outlets for creative expression including figure skating. - Review: "cold september" - Christina Munsey
Christina Munsey’s latest single “cold september” blends together elements of misery and longing for someone you are no longer with. You still haven't gotten used to spending so many days spent without the person you loved most. Every mundane September day is spent wondering how comforting their presence would be. Small inconveniences like the cool air become frigid to you. You hang onto the words they can no longer whisper to you, lost in your own longing. When did you last have to heal with time or sleep without them by your side? It feels as though there is hope sometimes when you latch onto their words, but you know it’s always a fleeting feeling. One day you can fully move on, but for now, your days are spent longing for their warmth. Click here to listen to "cold september"! “Cold september” is an alt pop single that revolves its structure around an emotionally charged vocal performance and a nostalgic instrumental. Every lyric is sung with a low and almost spoken-word essence. Munsey’s vocals serve as the defining aspect of this single and shape its structure around it. This infectious method is said with wavering intonation which is reminiscent of the melancholy narrative and instrumentation. The primary instrument, an electric guitar with a delayed pedal effect, is reminiscent of the early 2000s, late 90s alternative rock style music. This guitar remains the star of the show throughout the entire single, being its most consistent element in addition to the vocals. Each element perfectly intertwines into an emotionally and vocally raw piece. Christina Munsey is an American singer-songwriter currently based in North Carolina. She has been aspiring to make her own music since she was a child. Some of her biggest music inspirations are artists such as Carrie Underwood and Noah Cyrus. Her first rising step into professional music was when her single “Give me a Minute” was used on the popular reality show “Love is Blind”. From this broadcast integration, this single became # 28 on Shazam’s Top 100 Pop Chart. She has been featured on over 35 international music charts and continues to rise in popularity. She is prevalent in the live music scene and has performed in music festivals as well as other venues across North Carolina. - Review: "Between Your Teeth" - Halo Kitsch
Some of my favorite songs are the ones that channel the common jealousy we feel as women. It’s so easy to fall into the toxic trap of seeing someone with a seemingly perfect life and wish you had it too. Or struggling with deep insecurities and seeing flawless girls and wishing you looked like them. The reality is we are all beautiful the way we are and everyone has their struggles that we don’t see at face value, but that doesn’t mean we won’t always remember that. “Between Your Teeth,” is a new single by Halo Kitsch channeling all the anger that comes with jealousy. It was written as an alt-pop anthem challenging the “it girl” stereotype and the want to fit that stereotype. Halo Kitsch’s goal with this song was to connect with listeners who face the common fight with comparison and empower them in knowing it’s just a negative emotion or thought at the end of the day. “Between Your Teeth” has layers of edgy guitar riffs, punk like vocals and catchy melodies. It is an anthem for all the girls with deep rooted self doubt despite the fact that being themselves makes them perfect. Kitsch found inspiration from her waitressing job and said herself, "In the midst of those very humbling months on social media, faced with constant negativity, I found myself suddenly right back in the cyclical phases of jealousy, judgment, and justification. I spent an entire shift dreaming up this perfect girl, legs crossed, hair clean... the anti-me. And to counteract her, I began dreaming up a chorus of qualities that were one-of-a-kind, uniquely mine." I know I struggle with envisioning the ideal version of myself and wondering if I’ll ever be her and why I’m not already so I genuinely relate to this song on such a deep level. Social media is a big enemy to mental health and the way we perceive ourselves and that came as a big piece of this track. "I bet her paper cuts hurt cause she's never had it worse." If you love “Jealousy Jealousy” by Olivia Rodrigo then you’re bound to love “Between Your Teeth” by Halo Kitsch. Halo Kitsch is a 24 year old rising pop-rock artist based in Los Angeles. She writes empowering anthems based on her personal experiences and emotions she deals with throughout everyday life. Taking inspirations from the catchy elements of pop and the edge of rock she develops her own unique style that her listeners love. Kitsch sadly endured a fire that burned her childhood home down and instead of drowning in the pain, she used it to fuel her music and moved to Hollywood to start her career. Since then she has released over 20 songs and a debut EP. Kitsch strongly brings the idea of turning heartbreaks into bangers with her music and she nails it every time. “Between Your Teeth” is one of those bangers and if you resonate with it, be sure to check out all of her other songs and support her artistry. - Review: "Break A Promise" - ROSIE and Caleb Hearn
Life sometimes makes us swear to ourselves that we’d never do something again. For some, it’s a rollercoaster that they had a particularly bad experience on. For others, it’s a class they took. We make a promise to not put ourselves through that pain again, but in ROSIE and Caleb Hearn’s collaborative single “Break A Promise”, they’re all about breaking that solemn swear for the sake of a second chance. Decorated in soft guitar strings and melodic, twinning vocals, this duet acknowledges the unexpected nature of relationships, and how we break every rule we made since the last breakup so that this one might succeed. It’s that previous heartbreak that holds us back, but also spurs us to chase it– because even though it might have failed once, this new person might be worth all of it. The soundscape in “Break A Promise” will bring up memories for anyone who’s tried to convince themselves to overcome their self-made relationship rules. It’s warm, soft, and inviting; beginning with a guitar and some whistling, which set the stage for ROSIE’s incoming vocals, the track knows the exact atmosphere it’s honing in on. It is reminiscent of late nights and intimacy, and for many listeners it will speak directly to their own experiences with this exact situation. I love how ROSIE and Hearn’s vocals mingle together. They each get their own verse and chorus, attempting to convince themselves that they need to break their promise to themselves, but the song’s end brings their duet into full fruition. There’s something magical happening between their voices, and it’s easy to imagine a pair of almost-lovers admitting to themselves that their self-honesty is going to be worth it. Combine that with the songwriting, “Break A Promise” really makes its zenith feel big and towering, this thing that is larger than the song’s lovers. ROSIE and Hearn sing, “If I’m honest for you / I’d break a promise”, and I feel like that one line captures the exact message that the song is conveying, which is: I’ve been through this before, but you’re worth it. “Break A Promise” is romantic yet tentative, like learning how to love someone again and hoping that it'll be worth it in the end. New York native and singer-songwriter, ROSIE is an artist whose works are a musical study into heartbreak, love, and authenticity. It was her breakout single “Never the 1” that first garnered her the attention of Arista Records who quickly signed with her. She’s captured the attention of various celebrities like FINNEAS, Olivia Rodrigo, Charlie Puth, Olivia O’Brien, and Celine Dion– the last of which ROSIE co-wrote “Love Again” with her for a SONY film. Since her debut single in 2018 “Crash and Burn”, ROSIE has gone on to release a variety of successful singles, a 2021 debut album entitled “20mg of Happiness”, and a 2023 debut EP entitled “5 Songs for Healing”. “Break A Promise” is the sixth track on her second EP “What Scares Me The Most” and is her reunion collaboration with Caleb Hearn. Caleb Hearn is a Nashville-based and North Carolina-born singer-songwriter whose musical journey began in 2019 with his debut single “Air”. His debut album, “Left on McKinney”, released in 2024 and confronts vulnerability, addressing personal struggles while combining them with folk-pop sounds. “Break A Promise” is Hearn and ROSIE’s most recent release together, so those of you who enjoyed their duet should definitely check out their last collaboration “Little Bit Better” as well as both of their discographies! - Review: "Fighting Over Sheets" - David Tucker
Play into natural desire with “Fighting Over Sheets” from artist David Tucker. This new single from Tucker dives into the concepts of pleasure, humanity, and passion. “Fighting Over Sheets” details a sexy, fun connection that is charged and present. This connection centers around an irresistible desire for another person and to physically connect with them. The song delves into specific situations, including sensual and dressed-up occasions in addition to relatable predicaments such as losing sleep to spend quality time with someone. In this case, quality time is spent both physically and emotionally through focusing entirely on Tucker’s partner. Feeding into the playful nature of the song, the song flourishes with freedom of expression and natural, human pleasure by displaying a connection that is both reciprocated, healthy, and energetic. Although “Fighting Over Sheets” entails a story that involves physical pleasure, Tucker’s clever writing adds layers of detail on top of the sexy tone of the song. While both parties enjoy exploring one another physically and navigating that side of a relationship, love for the other person is very much apparent through Tucker’s lyrics. He details how both him and his partner enjoy this side of their relationship to this degree because they are committed to one another, know that the other person is present and will be there to support the other, and they desire the same & similar things. This layer can be heard in the overall tone of the song as well – “Fighting Over Sheets”, in my opinion, brings a relaxing, loving, and almost beach-like imagery to mind. The track is both upbeat and calm, much like a yacht-rock type of song from the 70’s-80’s. Tucker including an element of love between the two people in this song makes sense for the track and gives it more depth, making it full-bodied and a well-rounded pop song. On top of his skilled songwriting, Tucker’s strong vocal abilities and power to show a balanced, natural relationship is a skill that comes rarely in songwriting and shows uniqueness in his presence & music. David Tucker is a singer-songwriter born in Georgia and raised in Kentucky. During his childhood, Tucker was raised in an extremely musical family and often traveled to sing songs of faith after learning several various instruments. After building a following in his home state, Tucker moved to Nashville in 2017. In Nashville, he spent his welding skyscrapers in Music City and playing gigs at honky-tonks on Broadway – the music hub of Nashville. Upon performing in Nashville and acting as a co-producer and writer to other artists, Tucker began releasing singles of his own in 2021. These singles were featured by networks like CMT, Vevo, etc., before Tucker experienced health and life disturbances that forced him to put his work on hold. Tucker is now working full-time on his music career and has been releasing new material since 2023. Written By Madison Spies FOLLOW DAVID TUCKER: Instagram | Spotify | TikTok | Facebook | YouTube
- Review: "Burning Daylight" - KARINA
"Burning Daylight" by KARINA is a powerful thought spiral in song that will make you feel heard in your anxieties, self-doubt, and burnout. The track starts off by drawing you straight into the feeling that time is a blur, before taking you through the stagnant exhaustion the speaker feels in the chorus. Metaphors like "keep hitting red lights" give you a taste of how the speaker feels with ideas of frustration, slowed progress, and negativity pushing through the lyrics. Asking a partner for a different type of support than the one that is being offered, the lyrics say "you keep saying phrases like 'I wish you would'". These words are bold, showing what it's like to be kicked when you're already down. Being told you need to be doing more when you're already working hard just to keep up with life hurts. This song allows listeners to understand that the people in their lives may be struggling with thoughts and pressure under the surface, and encourages empathy for others and compassion for yourself. Dark and slightly folky synthpop embraces the frantic meanings and introspective ideas from the lyrics in "Burning Daylight". Ambient guitar and gentle electronic instrumentals draw you into the sound of this song as different distinct sounds like a car's acceleration make this tune uniquely reflective of its words. KARINA's breathy, high vocals powerfully use a narrative sound to the verse while whispers and echoes of lyrics add a texture that brings out the idea of an internal voice present in the lyrics. The verse draws you in, and the chorus offers a cool, distinctive sound in minor key with expressive vocals. This brings the lyrics a fascinating intensity, made even more strong by melismatic notes on words like "life" and "light". There's a catchy and immersive bridge in the song where the vocals and instrumentals allow you to soak into an ambient and cyclical moment in the song. This track will take you through exciting and vulnerable emotions with its deliberate and creative sound. KARINA is a musician from Virginia with an exciting pop style. She has gravitated towards music throughout her life, and has released an album and multiple singles. KARINA has played at venues like The Camel , and uses her social media platforms like TikTok to share covers of her music which showcase her vocal and guitar-playing talents. - Review: "Blame Me" - Shawn Fox
I’m a big fan of rock and high-energy music, especially when I can really feel the songwriter’s emotion in the lyrics. “Blame Me” is the latest single by singer and songwriter, Shawn Fox. It’s a song about young love and desire, and according to Fox’s Instagram, is about his relationship with his fiance. Fox says the song chronicles their love story. And what really surprised me is that this is only Fox’s second released song! It’s incredible, and makes me feel like he’s been releasing music for years. So, I absolutely loved how he’s incorporating his appreciation for his loved ones through his music from the start. It’s refreshing. “Blame Me”, as I said, is a pretty high-energy and impactful song. The production for this was insane. The song featured several guitar solos, and was essentially pulled together and wrapped in a neat little bow thanks to production mastermind, Will Carlson. When the chorus first began, I’ll admit, I was worried the instrumentals would drown out Fox’s voice. However, once he started to sing the first lyric in the chorus, I could feel the power and emotion in his voice. Fox has an incredible tone to his voice, transcending over the instrumentals, so I felt that Fox absolutely nailed this. Shawn Fox is a singer and songwriter, who as I said earlier, has only one other song on his repertoire. Fox first released his debut single, “The Party Is Over”, last year. Today, it has nearly 30,000 streams on Spotify. According to Fox, a lot of his songwriting inspiration stems from artists like Ryan Tedder and Jon Bellion. I’ll admit, I can definitely hear a bit of Bellion in his lyrics. Fox is a self-taught musician, who first learned how to play several instruments on YouTube, which I think is awesome! I love getting to see people who have worked hard for their dreams finally see them come to fruition, and I think Fox’s career is only going to skyrocket from here. Go and stream “Blame Me” everywhere, today! Written By Isabel Mays FOLLOW SHAWN: Instagram | Spotify
- Review: "Detached" - Estella Dawn
Estella Dawn blows away her listeners with the release of her stunning new single, “Detached.” The fiery track showcases her iconic cheeky lyricism as the singer shows her dark side. She warns her muse to be cautious because, now that they have done her wrong, she is over being nice. Her sharp lyrics satisfy anyone who is a fan of powerful women seeking vengeance. Dawn makes it clear that her revenge is not with violence but instead with her words and actions. She begins the track with lyrics that lead the listener astray as she sings, “I hope you know to zigzag// My daddy taught me how to shoot.” Then, she quickly switches the narrative with the clever lines: “Never with a gun// Only cunning// That’s what smart women do.” She continues to share her father’s wisdom before calling out her subject’s toxic behavior. In the chorus, she reveals her sweet revenge: detaching completely and becoming apathetic. They are dead to her now, and she is never bringing them back. Once she leaves, she is the type of woman who will never return. Dawn’s message is inspiring. It is one that celebrates taking power back and shows other women that they can follow her lead. Each of her releases showcase her immense confidence and spreads this admirable energy to those that listen. Dawn is an expert at keeping her audience on their toes. “Detached” is an excellent example of her ingenuity and skill. While the singer typically releases infectious alt-pop and R&B-influenced songs, this new release veers from her normal style. Instead, she found inspiration from the sounds of rock and Americana, effortlessly mesmerizing listeners with the sultry production. To match this feisty soundscape, the song contains Dawn’s iconic strong vocalizations that fans easily fall in love with. Her distinctive voice is one of the best in the industry, making listeners excited to hear what she will do with it in each release. “Detached” may be a glimpse into a new sound that Dawn is exploring. And while I love each and every one of her releases, I would be more than thrilled to hear her experiment with this differing genre. Estella Dawn is a singer, songwriter, producer, and multi-instrumentalist from New Zealand, now based in San Diego. Her music does not stick to one style but rather mixes the sounds of multiple genres to create her own unique sound. In 2018, she made her debut with her first single, “Feet". She released several singles leading up to the onset of the global pandemic. During quarantine, she took the time to hone in on her sound and capture her true essence within her music. That year she released 10 original singles every six weeks, defining her impeccable ability to keep audiences engaged with anticipation of her next masterpiece. Since then, Dawn has released several more incredible singles, and she continues to release music that reels hundreds of thousands of listeners. Her creativity shines through every single one of her releases and she shows absolutely no signs of slowing down. Written By Karlee Skipper FOLLOW ESTELLA: Instagram | Spotify | TikTok | X | YouTube
