  • Review: "Carey" - Maggie Baring

Maggie Baring gives us a snapshot into what it's like to have deep feelings for a person, knowing they can't reciprocate those feelings. This doesn't happen because you're undesirable, but because you aren't compatible with the other person. We've been gifted strong lyrics that help paint a vivid picture of this exact scenario. One of my favorite lyrics comes right at the beginning when it says, "Take me to your dinner parties / All your friends behind hands / Laughing / Cross your soul and pull my / Heartstrings / If you don't love me why am I / Singing." As the listener we can grasp the emotion behind what's being said. We know that the person explaining this to us is hurt because all they want is to be seen and recognized by someone they feel is significantly important to them. Arguably, the most impactful line hit's towards the end of the chorus. The line says, "Here's my confession / When you didn't want me / Didn't learn my lesson / Carey." It's a verbal acknowledgment that even though it was made obvious that the other person wasn't interested, the artist still was, it's beautifully relatable. "Carey" is a very personal and vulnerable song, which can be easily detected by the tone and mood as well as the artists voice inflection. The tone of the song is rather tender and introspective. The piece is drenched in sincerity, strength, and emotional vulnerability. The mood of the song melds so cohesively with the tone. We're presented with a warm yet melancholic vibe which helps boost the bittersweet feelings in the atmosphere. What little feelings of sadness we do gather, are not overwhelming enough to drag us under. The instrumentation within "Carey" is subtle, giving us the mellowed sounds from the acoustic guitar and piano. Factoring all the elements of the song together, it allows the lyrics to shine on their own. There's a simple and classy elegance gifted throughout the song that brings the whole piece together. Maggie Baring is a 20 year old, UK based singer-songwriter. Her acoustic style and pure voice adds a special individuality to her music that often helps echo folksy, country styles. She finds inspiration from music artists such as Noah Kahan, Phoebe Bridgers and Maisie Peters. Maggie Baring began writing songs at the age of 12 and has been writing ever since. Maggie plays piano and guitar, she's been playing gigs since 2020. She released her debut EP 'Lands Away' in 2021 it recieved over 30,000 streams. • Review: "Friends" - Joel Marques

Artist Joel Marques packs a punch with his single “Friends”, showing the newly ignited reaction to the dark side of close connections that many can unfortunately relate to. Marques tells the story of a close friendship(s) with a person and/or group of people that has left him feeling wronged. While he channels an energy that is raw, disgruntled, and powerful, he receives the same from the opposing side of this past friendship – just in a different way. While they stay persistent and strong in their push for a friendship, Marques’ lyrics and tone follow as the story accelerates & unfolds. “Friends” perfectly channels the frustration, confusion, and loss of connection felt while going through the dissolvement of a friendship(s), and how it’s acceptable to feel many things at once while going through an event like this. This song cleverly showcases Marques’ ability to create a song that’s emotionally & lyrically complex with a well-rounded, inviting pop sound. Instead of letting negative emotions overshadow the novelty of “Friends”, Marques uses the situation to his advantage to create a song that artistically blends elements of pop with his imagination and personal world. One of the many things that stuck out to me while listening to “Friends” was the way that Marques could easily mix qualities of differing genres to showcase a song that could “typically” fall under a single category. With the level of angst and hurt embedded into “Friends”, I would assume that normally people would try to classify this song within the world of pop-punk music. While “Friends” contains traits of pop-punk, Marques’ unique voice emits a flair to the song that sets it apart from falling into a strict classification. Qualities of both country and hard rock specifically stuck out to me through Marques’ voice and choice of descriptive words within his lyrics, signaling to me his proven ability to take on the world of pop music. Through Marques’ direct, descriptive lyrics and powerful, genre-bending voice, it is evident that this friendship(s) has been stained and will never return to how it originally was. Though the length and depth of this friendship is not necessarily clear, listeners can easily interpret from Marques’ strong artistic ability that the situation has greatly impacted him and is going to eventually open doors that will be healthy for and ultimately serve him. “Friends” may contain discussion of emotions and actions that don’t necessarily bring comfort, but there’s no denying that it’s both quality pop music as well as a story that almost anyone can find themselves within. Joel Marques is a singer/songwriter based in Luxembourg. Beginning his musical during childhood, Marques quickly discovered that he wanted to make music that could transcend time and resonate with people worldwide. With exposure to varying musical genres at an early age and formal training at the Conservatoire de Musique in Esch, his artistic expression is filled with diversity and uniqueness. Kickstarting his music career in 2022, Marques began performing live at restaurants, bars, etc. This led him to take part in the 13 th season of ‘The Voice of Germany’ in 2023, where he went on to the semi-final. Following this success and experience with ‘The Voice of Germany’, he participated in Luxembourg’s Song Contest for Luxembourg’s representative at Eurovision Song Contest 2024, bringing him more exposure and encouragement to explore his music. Now, Marques is focusing on his music in a way like never before – allowing the transformative nature of experiences like his participation in the Luxembourg Song Contest to inspire him and lead to composure & creation of his own music in place of performing covers. Cutting ties with those who no longer serve us is such a hard thing to do. No matter how long we’ve known them or how many memories were shared it always feels like something is missing from our lives. Dani Marchio released her latest track titled “happy 4 u” on June 25, 2025. This song is about moving on from someone after there was such a deep connection shared. Losing someone you care about may feel like the end of the world. But after a few days, maybe even weeks you start to find yourself again. Soon enough after that you realize how much they were just not meant for you.   “happy 4 u” begins with such a catchy melody that reminded me of a hot summer day at the beach with some friends. Her vocals immediately stole the show as they were so powerful and full of so much emotion. You could just hear the unapologetic and bold tone throughout the entire track. I could not get enough of this song as the mood was so upbeat and fearless. Not to mention how relatable the lyrics were. • Review: "Soma" - Sofia Sampaio

Breakups are one thing, but friend breakups are a totally different beast. Sometimes it’s easy to cut out an ex from your life, yet a fractured friendship can leave you feeling lonelier than ever. Sofia Sampaio’s “Soma” is an electrifyingly emotional track that meditates on when we cope unhealthily after the end of a friendship. It highlights the want to run away from our feelings, and yet they’ll chase us down anyways. Through deep introspection and a soundscape that blends Brazilian rhythms with gritty 90s rock, “Soma” is a rollercoaster ride that takes you to the diving lows of friend breakups– so low that we pretend our ex-friends never existed in the first place, numbing the turmoil through denial and anger. If you love alternative tracks, then “Soma” is going to be your jam– and then some. I’m a definite alt-enjoyer, so this song has been nothing but a delight to have on repeat. There’s a fantastically gritty and rough sound that lays beneath the soundscape, which is super reminiscent of 90s rock. But then it’s blended with airy pop that lifts the entire track upward with its passionate percussion and guitar. It’s a combination that’s balanced so perfectly that it’ll have you coming back for seconds, wondering why your playlist isn’t filled with songs just like “Soma”. And then when you consider its lyrics, you get this amazing track that’s both sonically beautiful and lyrically smooth. Exploring avoidance and the end of friendships, I think anyone who’s had to go through a friend breakup is going to relate so well to this song. “Soma” is one of those tracks I’m going to have on loop for a long time– the sound is simply addicting with a brilliantly catchy chorus and personal, emotional highs. Sofia Sampaio is an artist whose Brazilian roots blend with a new alternative sound to create something that is entirely her own. Inspired by bands like Sir Chloe and artists like beabadoobee, Sofia’s style is soft and honest, filled with passionate pop that intermingles with rock. It’s music that speaks to you, personal yet still universally relatable– from complicated relationships to musing on friendship, audiences are dazzled by Sofia’s precise lyricism and magnetic soundscapes. Her debut single “better off bored” released in 2025 and was followed by “Soma” not long after. If you enjoyed “Soma”, then you better go listen to “better off bored”, too! • Review: "On My Mind" - Static Ella

Have you ever felt unheard or unseen when you have so many by your side no matter what? Static Ella released her latest single titled “On My Mind” on June 25, 2025. This song is about the overwhelming amount of restless nights where you can’t seem to sleep but rather think. There are hundreds of events that take place in your day, some are great, and some are not so great. At the end of everyday it’s hard to sit and not think about those moments you just went through. It’s almost in our nature to keep replaying and thinking about different scenarios and solutions. But there comes a time where you simply cannot take it anymore and you slowly begin to just let things go.   “On My Mind” opens with the most ethereal beat I have ever heard. I seriously could not get enough of this track. From the first few seconds I was instantly hooked especially when her vocals became present. Her voice was so heavenly and there was so much emotion poured into each lyric. With lines like “But she left me high and dry” and “Now I’m always frightened.” Everything about this song was amazing even the mood of the entire song was so melancholic. I also really enjoyed the steady textures throughout the song. It made it feel so real and relatable. I immediately added this song to my everyday listening playlist.   Static Ella is a singer/songwriter from New Zealand but now based in the United Kingdom. • Review: "How To Hurt" - Zev Troxler

"How To Hurt" by Zev Troxler takes on a wonderful mix between campfire, fun and friendly energy with brutally honest experiences in the lyrics. The acoustic guitar sounds like it's the thing that Zev's voice has always meant to be paired with and the rhythms in this song between both tracks are incredible. This song really captures so much skill that Zev brings to the music industry like poetic writing, vulnerability, incredible harmonies and smooth vocal tracks throughout the entire song just to name a few. All with a catchy, fun vibe that just screams summertime. Since the mood of the song seems very melancholy as Zev reflects on recent things that have happened to them through the lyrics, adding the acoustic guitar allow the lyrics to really heighten. The simplicity of the guitar also gives Zev the room to add rhythm through the vocal track like we see in the second verse with the lyrics "Handwoven, hand molded." The honesty the Zev also adds to the lyrics seem so close to the singer's heart like in the chorus saying, "Lost a couple friends, Heaven knows I'm missing them" really allows listeners to try and come from a place of understanding. • Album Review: "." - Kesha

On July 4th, 2025, Kesha released her sixth studio album, “.” or “Period”. It was released by her own independent label Kesha Records and announced on March 27th, 2025. Key collaborations include a feature by T-Pain, co-writing and producing with Zhone, Kesha’s mother, and Pink Slip. This song marks a return to Kesha’s pop roots, with inspiration drawn from EDM and country music. To promote this album, Kesha embarked on the Tits Tour in July of. 2025. TRACKLIST FREEDOM. JOYRIDE. YIPPIE-KI-YAY. (Feat. T-Pain) DELUSIONAL. RED FLAG. LOVE FOREVER. THE ONE. BOY CRAZY. GLOW. TOO HARD. CATHEDRAL. Kesha Rose Serbet was born on March 1st, 1987 in Los Angeles, California. She is an American singer and songwriter. Her first major success came in the form of a feature on Flo Rida’s track “Right Round” in 2009. Through her genius artistry and branding, she propelled herself to major success. Two of her albums reached number one on the U.S. Billboard 200 chart. She has had major advocacy work with the Time’s Up movement, standing in support of women who have been victims of sexual harassment.  FREEDOM. The beginning track for Kesha’s new album creates intrigue with a mysterious piano melody. Vocals enter with harmonies that echo beautifully. Tension rises in the instrumental as the lyrics begin. Kesha describes the freedom of letting go and feeling good after a hard time. The percussion picks up with a groovy bass underneath, creating an exciting beat with sassy vocals that drives the song towards the end. “FREEDOM.” is the perfect song to begin this album, as it builds excitement for what is to come. JOYRIDE. “JOYRIDE.” initiates with an exciting percussion rhythm and chord progression in the introduction. This song is all about freedom and messiness, and embracing one’s true desires even if it can be a little crass sometimes. The lyrics take pride in this way of life, encouraging others to join in the party. A techno sound is continuous throughout the entire track. “JOYRIDE.” is the perfect song for partying and embracing the fun in life’s messiness. YIPPIE-KI-YAY. (Feat. T-Pain) This track begins with heavy autotune on the vocals that is reminiscent of early 2000s Kesha. I grew up listening to her early songs, so this made me feel very nostalgic. This song is about embracing happiness and fun after and in spite of hard times. The rhythmic cadence of the lyrics is similar to many folk or country songs. For this reason, the song gives me a homey feel that reminds me of my hometown. The T-Pain verse continues on the established rhythm before transitioning into a new rap, presenting a variety of sounds and attitudes for listeners to enjoy. DELUSIONAL. “DELUSIONAL.” begins with a synth intro that has an exciting but almost melancholic feeling. This track features clear vocals over groovy drums and echoey synths. The lyrics are about the pain of letting someone drain you and finally getting the power to leave them. There’s a lot of strength in realizing one’s own worth, and this song embodies it with the lyrics and the instrumentals. The vocal harmonies on the chorus create a unique emotional impact. When you leave someone who is holding you back, you get the ability to grow into your full potential, noted with lyrics such as “watch me gettin’ hotter on your cheap TV”. RED FLAG. This next track begins with an echoey electric guitar and vocals that lie on top of the guitar while also being integrated into the sound cleanly. Sometimes you meet someone who is bad for you, but you don’t care. You want to lean into the intrigue of a red flag. That’s what these lyrics describe. Vocal harmonies and groovy drums in the chorus create a nostalgic feeling, creating the sense of youthful fun found in chaotic and wild connections. Sometimes you want something fun and exciting after being emotionally injured in serious commitment. LOVE FOREVER. “LOVE FOREVER.” begins with repetitive lyrics with an electronic tone. It is an extremely human experience to desire a dreamt love story, which is what the lyrics of this track want to describe. More importantly, wanting this beautiful connection with a particular person. This song is an emotional request, seen in the vulnerability presented in the more exposed nature of the vocals and thinner instrumentation in the pre-chorus. The verse on top of the guitar and drums have a summery feel, adding to the yearning while also creating a fun atm osphere. THE ONE. For the introduction for “THE ONE.”, there is a trumpet fanfare in the beginning that feels victorious, combining with synths that creates that signature Kesha sound. Through heartbreak, sometimes you are able to find solace in yourself. This song is about recognizing your own worth through devastating. The belting vocals on top of the trumpet fanfare and drums in the chorus create that victorious feeling, because being able to choose yourself above all is a victory. You stay with yourself for your entire life, so you need to find home in your own body and mind. This song presents this idea beautifully. BOY CRAZY. This next track begins with an automatic voice chanting the lyrics, before transitioning into vocals that imitate the automated voice with audio effects and low, even tone over the pulsing percussion. This song jumps out to me because it talks about men in a similar way that songs have talked about women in the past. However, rather than sounding vengeful, it’s empowering. It is taking pride in sexuality. This song will no doubt raise heart rates and spirits of listeners everywhere. GLOW. “ GLOW.” has a retro sounding introduction and reminds me of old arcade games. These lyrics are about turning someone away once it is clear they’re not meant for you. This could be in their lifestyle, attitude, or actions. Furthermore, you are able to glow after leaving these connections as they truly hold you back from taking pride in your accomplishments and acknowledging your own worth. The percussion is pervasive in the entire song and ties the varying tones of the songs together in a tasteful way as Kesha experiments within her own genre. TOO HARD. This song is about feeling betrayed by someone you though would support you through anything. It’s about loving someone in spite of the pain because you cannot bring yourself to truly hate them. The low vocals feel vulnerable while also seeming a little resentful. Sometimes you want to heal someone, but it’s not enough, and they end up dragging you down with them. This song is repetitive in nature but no less moving. CATHEDRAL. “CATHEDRAL”. has a mellow introduction, contrasting the rest of the album while also calling back to the introductory track. Through beautiful celestial imagery and Kesha’s powerful vocals, this song describes coming back to yourself after experiencing pain and grief. Piano is the main backing track, creating a powerfully moving sound while vocal harmonies and string tones create a distinctly emotional experience. The ending chorus pulls in the electric sounds from the rest of the album as the lyrics describe turning outward energy that was being spent on partying and other people back inward and promoting healing and growth. My favorite track off of this album is, without a doubt, the ending song “CATHEDRAL.” This song carries a strong message to leave listeners with as they finish out the album while communicating it through beautiful imagery and strong lyricism. The instrumental is also incredibly stunning, combining a variety of aural tastes that tie together tastefully into one track. Kesha’s vocal and lyrical prowess are some of the most impressive and underrated in the industry and seeing her truly flex her abilities is incredibly moving and inspiring for listeners everywhere. • Review: "14 Cigarettes " - Abigail Fierce

To be so in love you ignore all the signs that should scare you away can paralyze you long enough to the point where it almost feels too late. While red flags wave, you focus in on the pretty pictures and aesthetics, but eventually the ugly grows enough you can't pretend to ignore any longer. "14 Cigarettes" by Abigail Fierce explores a romantic tragedy that's painted in retro hues and the heat of a bad relationship that leaves you burnt. As you tune into this story you're instantly struck by the intensity of the damage done, but you also feel enchanted by instrumentals and production choices. In this moment you do find yourself stuck in this car ride along with the narrator and as the song's story spirals you do feel the danger the speaker feels in the end. Abigail Fierce delivers such an intense performance with this track that all these raw emotions bleed onto listeners to instantly charm them enough to become dedicated listeners. From the moment you press play the imagery is clear enough you can almost touch it. There's a clear love for vintage aesthetics in this song and it really sells the idea that pretty moments can distract a person long enough to capture them. There's also almost a criminal element to this story, to be robbed of "14 Cigarettes" is to be robbed of one's love and time enough to cut deep. There's also the lying and hiding of this relationship from others and it makes the audience feel like they're watching a classic outlaw film. The softness of Abigail Fierce's singing does bring enough comfort to balance out the anxiety of this story. However, Fierce's softness still carries enough raw emotion that stays with you. The buildup at the end of the song perfectly reflects how the story ends, spiraling out of control enough to finally break away the main character from this spell. Overall, "14 Cigarettes" takes you on a journey of love and agony and it's so clear how talented of an artist Abigail Fierce is. Abigail Fierce is an artist and actress based in Los Angeles, California. Previously she's worked on shows like Love, Victor  and This is Us . On "14 Cigarettes" she was producer and did all the instrumentation except for drums. Additionally, she worked with session player Victor Indrizzo. Abigail Fierce has been associated with artists such as Taylor Swift, Olivia Rodrigo, Hole, and more. The praise she has received from the past comes from her multi-instrumental talent and her ability to take older styles and shape them to fit modern audiences. From listening to "14 Cigarettes," these praises reign true and it's so clear Abigail Fierce has a bright future waiting for her career. • Review: "Love Hangover" - SUZIE

SUZIE’s “Love Hangover” reminisces on an old flame with the same rush as a trend bouncing back in style. Her lyrics and her sound are harmonious with this concept. Reconnecting is a complicated road, wanting to rush to that place of love but knowing a slower pace is safe. SUZIE’s heart is stuck, missing what they had together. She doesn’t want to move on. She wants to move closer. Love creates this brain fog, erasing logic and expressing every feeling—much like a few too many drinks. And the next day, it follows us. But this song may be the perfect remedy to help you find where you and they are on the timeline. Don’t be mistaken—this song isn’t a time machine. It’s revisiting the elements that bring us to life in a fresh era. The arpeggio fills the music with a neon glow, taking that “Open” sign on the store window as an answer from the universe to unlock your heart again. When I heard the few seconds, my jaw dropped—it felt like I might ascend to the stars. The bass bounces with that strut along the sidewalk in new kicks and a Walkman cassette blasting that timeless song through your headphones. SUZIE’s voice brings it all together with a voice as silky as the synth chords. The warmth and calmness in her vocals are like a cool breeze as you’re holding hands with that old flame. It almost makes you want to invite them out for a night drive, enjoying the sparkle of the city lights with them by your side. SUZIE is a rising K-pop artist who combines her Korean roots and time in Turkey into electric tracks. With only five songs released, she shows that she can capture a spectrum of emotions. “Love Hangover” may yearn for an old relationship, but she knows how to create a bold anthem or a cute love song. Her most popular single, “Fire,” burns with confidence, while “Call Me” takes on a bubbly vibe in flowy spring clothes. She currently has 5.9k monthly listeners with a growing following. Whether you’re romanticizing the past or strutting through a new city, SUZIE’s music is a must-add to your playlist. • Review: "Risk Looking Like A Fool" - Gonzo Mendes

Grappling with the harsh reality of experiencing unrequited love, Gonzo Mendes has released his latest single, "Risk Looking Like A Fool." A personal track for the artist, Mendes shares, "I wrote this track about the real life experience of telling someone how you feel and not have it be reciprocated. Not just about being disappointed, but also being lied to when the other person can't be straightforward and clear about how they feel. I wrote it as it happened and it helped me process it, especially after turning it into an energetic positive sounding, upbeat indie pop song, despite the lyrics being about a tough experience." A stark contrast to the song's poignant narrative, Gonzo Mendes' "Risk Looking Like A Fool" is a peppy blend of pop-rock and indie-pop filled with a light-hearted, carefree attitude. The track's soundscape features a mix of compelling, rich instrumentals, driven by funky guitar riffs, grooving bass lines, and spunky beats that rival Tom Misch's "Red Moon." Complementing the single's masterful composition, Mendes delivers addictive melodies with finesse, showing off crisp, smooth vocals that convey the right amount of honesty and emotion about the artist's situation without letting the playful, refreshing mood slip away. Currently based in Seattle, Gonzo Mendes is an artist, songwriter, and producer originally from Portugal. He's a classically trained guitarist, later branching out into songwriting and production in his teenage years as he was involved with local bands and projects in the city of Porto. Mendes explores a variety of genres that range from soulful and beat driven to indie-folk songs, drawing inspiration from artists like Tom Misch, Jamie Cullum , FKJ , and Daniel Caesar. Aiming to build his platform, Mendes is releasing a new song every month and will be consistently performing live as he expands his audience.
