  • Review: "Choker" - SkyDxddy

If you're looking for a song that gives you the fun and angst of punk rock while touching on hard subject surrounding mental health issues, "Choker" by SkyDxddy is exactly that. The theme surrounding the song is the conversation about how some people go through life smiling on the outside but on the inside are really struggling to hold it together. The lyrics that SkyDxddy has chosen alongside touching guitar riffs and drum tracks touch our angsty teenage selves while speaking to our adult minds about how hard life really is. Lyrics in the chorus like, "But I feel it tightening, baby I wear it like a choker" use the symbol of the choker to express how suffocating of a life that can be. The song starts off with a catchy guitar riff that we carries throughout in a very beautiful way. What's important to note about how this song differs than other punk songs is when SkyDxddy comes in with the vocals and the rythmic choices for the lyrics in both the verses and the chorus that really compliment the guitar riff that we hear in the beginning. The song's verses and pre-chorus are easy to distinguish simply through volume. They both also have a nice delicacy to them being light and softer. The chorus feels like the complete opposite where the lyrics are a lot harsher speaking to the subject of the song and instead of the music being softer, it's loud and intense. SkyDxddy is an alternative Pop/Rock Artist who uses subjects of mental health, personal trauma and empowerment as the engine of her lyrical choices. She has an incredibly authentic sound and unique lyrics that connect deeply with those who struggle with all sorts of mental health issues due to the raw, emotionally charged lyrics from her past. With over 150 million streams, SkyDxddy is also a Billboard charting artist and has really made her mark as a young up-and-coming artist in today's industry. One of the greatest strengths that SkyDxddy brings is the connection to her fanbase where they find comfort in each others strength and resiliance through music. Written By Breanna M. Markus Schulz, Tim Clark, and Linney’s “You Belong” sparks unity with an electrifying, unstoppable sound that reaches the heart. Some people spring out of bed ready to face the world. Others have to fight to share a piece of themselves. But we all ache for connection, and music is the medicine. “You Belong” is a testament to every listener that no matter what path you start on, the heartbeat in your chest is beating for a reason. It strips the flaws and achievements down to the soul, making way to live in the moment. The track has garnered over 1 million Streams on Spotify and 5.6 million views on YouTube. Her talent has earned critical acclaim from prominent names, including Wonderland, Notion, Earmilk, Popfiltr, Kings of A&R, and Loss In The Nordics. Follow her on all socials to stay updated with all new announcements and releases! Hanging In The Balance Presley kicks off the album with the title track, “Hanging In The Balance." It serves as an interlude, slowly reeling the listener into the vulnerable EP. The minute and 17-second song packs a big punch in a short time. The track instantly starts with an eerie soundscape and Presley’s angelic voice. Her vocals have an empty-arena effect on them, accentuating the haunting soundscape. The artist confesses the gut-wrenching truth of her current mentality – she is “hanging in the balance.” She won’t let anyone see the pain and suffering she is going through. The track gives a glimpse into the upcoming tracks on the album, showcasing her heartbreak and sorrow. People Leave “People Leave” is the lead single from Hanging In The Balance.  The dark-pop song transports the listener into Presley’s anxious thoughts about relationships. She sings to her partner, expressing her deep disappointment in herself. She wants to trust them with no strings attached and admits they have not done anything to ruin that trust. However, she is so traumatized by past relationships that she is afraid they will leave. In the chorus, she apologizes for her behavior and explains it’s not her but “it’s the girl who’s still in pain // Who never watched them stay // And watched them walk away.”  The lyrics are backed by a powerful pop-rock production that emphasizes the desperation of the message. Presley’s passionate vocals complement this instrumentation, making “People Leave” a flawless anthem and earning its spot as my favorite track on the project. Our talented writer, Hanna Kowal, wrote a song review for “People Leave” in December 2024. Check it out here ! Can I Be Happy The second single is composed of heavy punk rock and dark pop influences. The style is reminiscent of early Paramore and new Cassadee Pope . Presley showcases her impressive vocal range, guiding the listener through her journey of pain and self-doubt. The song begins with a mesmerizing guitar melody and her angelic vocals as she expresses her inability to leave well enough alone and be content with where she is. The soothing soundscape in the verse bursts into the heavy, pop-rock chorus that emphasizes her fear of never being enough or ever loving herself unconditionally. The song is the perfect catharsis not only for her but for listeners who resonate with this heartbreaking message. “Can I Be Happy” proves that Presley found the genre made for her. Our talented writer, Victoria Fitzgerald, wrote a song review for “Can I Be Happy” in February 2025. Check it out here ! Paralyzed “Paralyzed” starts with an eerie synth production that lulls the listener into a dark, haunting soundscape. The instrumentation complements Presley’s lower register in the verse as she sets the foundation for the gut-wrenching, vulnerable lyrics. Throughout the track, she explores her frustration in feeling stuck with her career and personal life. She feels pressure from all sides, and nothing has gone as planned. She is “paralyzed," unable to escape this place of never-ending disappointment and misery. The song is utterly relatable to anyone in their 20s who had strong ambitions and thought they would be the best in their field by the time they turned 21, but are nearing their 30s with nothing to show for it. It is a quarter-life crisis anthem, making listeners, including myself, feel less alone in their self-doubt and bitterness. Ghost “Ghost” is the emotional ballad on the EP, sharing the singer’s struggle with mental health and sorrow. The song’s dark-pop soundscape evokes feelings of pain and melancholy as her lyrics describe how everything is slowly chipping away at her happiness. From the lyrics “Running off Zoloft and coffee” to “overworked and underpaid,” Presley ingeniously depicts the Gen Z and Millennial experience of pushing through life one day at a time. Now, she feels as if she is a ghost of herself – a shell of who she once was. Life has turned her into someone she does not recognize and is “hanging in the balance.” One more wrong turn… one more mishap, and she may lose herself entirely. Closing the project with “Ghosts” neatly wraps Hanging In The Balance , starting and ending the project with the significant theme of suffering in silence. Our talented writer, Nini Alano, wrote a song review for “Ghost” in April 2025. Check it out here ! • Concert Etiquette - What Happened?

Post pandemic, more and more people are going to concerts than ever before. With a gathering of people so large, there are some spoken (and unspoken) rules of concert etiquette in place to maintain a safe and fun environment for the performers, fans, and crew. But we’ve seen the videos - performers being hit with flying objects, fans obsessively screeching all night, wild acts of entitlement and disrespect. I’m not going to say that concertgoers were always perfect angels before COVID, but this recent uptick in the neglect of concert etiquette is quite concerning, so let’s dive into the issues of concert etiquette in 2025. With high prices comes high entitlement. No matter what caliber of artist you are seeing, you are paying more than what you would have 5 years ago, or even a year ago. And it’s not just the cost of the ticket that’s gone up - the cost of transportation, merch, food, and drinks have also gone up too. The struggle of getting tickets off of Ticketmaster too, has created an element of entitlement amongst many concertgoers. Many spend hours on Ticketmaster queues, skipping work or class, with the very real possibility that something will go wrong in the process and they won’t be able to buy tickets. Once you’ve got them, you feel a part of this exclusive club, only one of the few to survive the Ticketmaster war. This leads to a certain air of superiority or entitlement once you get to the venue for some - you paid all of this money, shouldn’t everything go your way? A neglect of personal surroundings and general lack of knowledge regarding “time and place” is a plight that plagues concertgoers time and time again. We’ve all seen signs that are far too big, outfits too impractical, and cameras held too high. But it’s a tricky situation, though - you paid so much money to see the show, why shouldn’t you take advantage of the moment, or capture as much as you can? I think we’re all sort of guilty in bending the lines of concert etiquette to make our experience more enjoyable. But, I think there’s a line to draw. There’s a difference between standing on your tip-toes and sitting on someone else’s shoulders, or trying to get closer to the stage and violently pushing your way through the pit. You get my idea.  Is there a good approach to fix this problem of bad concert etiquette? I'm not sure. We see this kind of entitlement, selfishness, and rudeness everywhere, not just concerts. You can see it at the grocery store, on planes, in amusement parks - wherever. It’s not a problem of just enforcement; many venues make their policies very clear. But it’s about the culture. This elitist, and at times toxic, concert culture where you have to be doing the most all the time has created an environment that is focused on the individual and harsh to other people. It doesn’t help that many of these concert etiquette fails go viral on social media, only causing more and more people to attempt the stunts that others have performed before them in order to get their 15 seconds of fame. What should be the general concert etiquette rules then? I think the good ol’ fashioned mantra of “treat others the way you want to be treated” is a good rule of thumb. Don’t want to be elbowed in the face by a stranger? Then pay attention to your personal surroundings while dancing. Don’t want someone’s camera in your view all night? Then don’t hold up your camera too high. If you don’t want someone to be rude and inconsiderate towards you, don’t be rude and inconsiderate towards them. And of course, follow all of the rules set up by the venue and the artists team. And most of all, have fun. Where else can you be with thousands of other people bonding over the exact same moment? Enjoy it!   Written By Lauren DiGiovanni Instagram | Twitter | Facebook | Spotify | TikTok | YouTube *copyright not intended. Fair use act, section 107.

  • Review: "Will They/Won't They" - Matthew Orgel

There’s a desperation of wanting to know if someone is the one. There’s a question, a lingering thought of the thought of someone else. Is there something there? Or is it just all in your head? Matthew Orgel’s new single, “Will They/Won’t They” covers the feeling and moments of unspoken messages through two people who haven’t received the clarity of where their relationship is going. With these moments “on a loop in [their] head” and with only “two options ahead,” Orgel’s song professes the want for more. A trope as old as time, Orgel finds himself in a cross paths: either this is all in his head, or he’s reading the situation right. Will they find themselves in the situation that Orgel believes they’re in? Or is it just a fantasy? Orgel’s single is a great take on sexual tension and the building of feelings over time. Despite Orgel’s confession and longing for more, the upbeat tempo and strong bass line throughout the song makes for moments with the windows rolled down and singing along with friends. Clever lyrics detail the song, with flips between two thoughts throughout the song, like if it’s “fantasy or foreplay” or “Are you gonna be? / Or have we only begun?” Mirroring the meaning of “will they or won’t they,” Orgel’s lyrics profess the thoughts that have been haunting him throughout the relationship: going in circles until both people receive the answers needed. Matthew Orgel grew up a musician. Hailing from Long Island in New York, he grew up singing and songwriting, starting the latter not too long after learning how to play piano at the age of four. With Orgel’s various music and covers catching the attention of artists like Meghan Trainor, Tyler Johnson, and Mike Sabath, it’s no shocker that he rocks over 27,000 monthly listeners on Spotify. Now in attendance at Berklee College of Music, Orgel hopes to inspire listeners and make songs that have listeners feeling good. With singles like “Will They/Won’t They,” “Backwards,” and “I Could Be Him,” leading to his second EP, out May 15th, we couldn’t be more on the edge of our seats. • Review: "Already Part of the Problem" - Senses

With retro sounds a drive for outspokenness, "Already Part of the Problem" by group Senses is a synth rock track that fights against the need to stay silent and limit change. The song has an 80s tone to it, finding a way to remind you of every classic from that period, but it still incorporates modern elements in its production. "Already Part of the Problem" is clear in its intention to be a song that urges for a forward-thinking movement that makes change instead of standing still. It almost plays the role of a battle call but the instrumentals themselves are much more cheery than that. When it comes to the aesthetics of "Already Part of the Problem" it does come across as more hopeful than the lyrics would want you to believe. It's filled with urgency and pleading, and it's the kind of song that excites you because of the message that it carries. The old-school influence is definitely strong on "Already Part of the Problem" which makes the track much more fun. However, the distortion of the guitars do give insight into a much darker tone. As previously mentioned, the lyrics are very direct in what they preach, pointing fingers to the listeners and questioning their lack of action. It's a song that's so necessary as it reminds people how important it is not to stay still and silent. That's why even when the song expresses fear and anxiety, it's still a motivational track. Even with its serious nature, "Already Part of the Problem" is still very fun and energetic enough to ignite a party. It's so easy to find yourself jumping up and down and dancing along once you press play. "Already Part of the Problem" has a lot to show for itself as it induces both fun and responsibility on its listeners.  Senses are a band of four best friends that formed in Coventry, England. The band consists of members Ian Finnegan, Kevin Kavanagh, Brian Callan, and Rónán O'Connor. The band takes inspiration from different musical styles like alternative, shoegaze, and indie rock. Senses has made their way around the UK music scene as they've performed many shows throughout their time as a band. Their debut album, "Little Pictures Without Sound," was released in 2023 and was a success. Their second album "All the Heavens" is expected to be released in July of this year so make sure to keep up with Senses as they continue to grow as artists. • Review: "made you cry" - Alessiah

Alessiah has released her brand-new single on April 11, 2025, titled “made you cry.” This track is about every emotion and feeling of wanting to let go of someone when it's sometimes it just seems simply impossible. When it comes to relationships everyone shows their love differently and the other may not even see or understand it. They see it as hatred or toxicity, but it really is a form of someone’s love. A battle between yourself and your partner can spark instantly because not everyone understands different forms of affection other than their own. Ultimately in the end the only thing you find yourself doing is leaving them alone and parting ways because although you may show love differently, they don’t seem to see it. “made you cry” starts off with the most chilling, haunting melody I have ever heard. I immediately fell in love with the entire vibe of the song. From the wicked sounds played over lyrics like “Please stay / Don’t go away” to her vocals that encompassed this song amazingly. There were these points throughout the track where an overlay of vocals in another tone was present, I thought gave off a romantic but hypnotic sense as the song is about letting go of someone. While the track has such intense sounds Alessiah’s vocals were so forceful in every aspect. I enjoyed how she mixed up her vocals from having a sound over them to give off that freighting feel to just her regular but fantastic voice.   The young and talented Alessiah is a singer/songwriter from Romania. She has been releasing music consistently since 2020. Her latest single “made you cry” is a beautiful song about the emotional ache of letting someone go. Her music is so raw and beautifully sung with so many musical elements to it. In all her music you can feel the great amount of energy she puts into each and every track. Follow along on her musical journey as she will be releasing her debut album this August titled “Obscentra.”   Written By Julissa Garcia FOLLOW Alessiah: Instagram | Spotify  | TikTok  | Facebook  | YouTube | Website

  • Review: "High" - Josh Gray

In this soaring and emotional pop tune, “High” creates a moment for heartbreak and escape. Gray’s storytelling within his music is a refreshing breath in the pop genre. The song goes into themes of substances to forget a person, anxiety, and a heart that clearly aches within the lyrics. Gray's voice articulates the emotion needed to execute such a message; Gray's unique style and narrative creating abilities make him the perfect artist to tell this story. His raw vulnerability in the lyrics invite listeners to sit with their own emotions, making the anthem deeply relatable. One aspect of the song that differentiates it from others is the upbeat tempo and use of sound effects, such as a lighter and exhaling, to allude to smoking. For such a deep and layered track, Gray masks the pain with drums, guitars, clapping, and an itch to sing along. This thrilling pop tune is enhanced with the distinction between two moments: one of a softer, light tune and another with a louder, more emphatic beat. This contrast mirrors the emotional highs and lows described in the lyrics, drawing listeners deeper into the narrative. It's a dynamic approach that showcases Gray’s ability to blend sonic creativity with raw emotion. Dublin-born and raised, Josh Gray is a singer/songwriter known for his narrative development and contemporary pop with deep lyrical honesty. An accomplishment Gray recently received is being recognized as a co-writer and co-producer of "Unsaid" f or The Script's new album Satellites . Even touring as a backing vocalist and guitarist, Gray has solidified his value in the music industry. There is no doubt that Gray is an influential rising Irish star with passion. With each release, he continues to carve out a distinct space for himself in today’s pop music landscape. Written By Adalyn Reichenberger FOLLOW JOSH GRAY: Instagram | Spotify  | TikTok  | YouTube

Dilan Skies is back with another amazing single, “I DO, I DID.” With atmospheric lyrics and dreamy vocals, this track will definitely tug at your heartstrings. From the very start, the lyrics paint a clear picture of a heartbreak that has already taken place. The main message of “I DO, I DID” can be encapsulated with the following: love is not disposable, and it takes a lot of work. • Review: "Ghost" - Lauren Presley

When we stop and take a look at our lives, our troubles, or our fears, we may start to feel like the ghost of ourselves as we begin to feel disconnected from the world. The weight of our fears lays on our shoulders, weighing us down as time goes on. We live day by day, and it starts to all feel the same. This can make us question what we can get from a routine that has only left us paralyzed to the hopes and dreams we used to strive for no matter the obstacles that came our way. How did we get to this point? The point where we allowed ourselves to be haunted by the ghost that wants more for us as we struggle to rise from the weight that has kept us down for so long. Lauren Presley takes us through the darkness that we have faced for far too long as we try and look for the light we have been missing in our lives. 'Ghost' will take us on a thrilling ride as it takes unexpected twists and turns. A dark, dissonant tone begins as we are taken to a mystical atmosphere. Lauren Presley's sultry voice compliments the haunting melody of the song beautifully as it captures our attention. Lauren takes us through the fears and struggles that have been weighing her down as she fights to get through the pain of it all. Despite her efforts, it all feels like an unfair exchange. She's working hard to keep living what feels like the same day over and over again, but what's given in return is not enough to let her be happy. The chorus dives into an emotional realization of how these disappointments have affected her. Then, an electric twist takes over as she knows she's ready to do whatever it takes to get better. We are taken back to the emotional chorus that hits us hard as we hear about the pain from the struggles we can all relate to. The bridge reflects a heartbeat, and it quickens as the electric twist and insanity start to take control. The final chorus is powerful and presents the strong emotions Lauren is ready to put on blast as she's done letting it conquer over her life. • Review: "Name on my Phone" - Kat Velasco

In today’s day and age, the ‘talking stage’ is all too familiar. An easy way to get to know someone is to text; it can be casual but still a way to converse when you are not together. For many, they know that they have begun to actually like this person when they get excited seeing their name pop up. Kat Velasco’s latest single “Name on my Phone” details this exact feeling, and perfectly depicts the butterflies felt as you begin to fall for someone. As usual, Velasco’s lyrics are intricate and tell a story full of depth and emotion, giving listeners a complete look into what it is like to develop a crush. The soundscape also adds to this drama, by being upbeat and energetic, just as excited as Velasco herself. She starts at the beginning, describing the rush and anticipation when she gets a notification and hopes it is him. Velasco opens the track with the line, “When it lights up / I won't lie if it ain't you / I get disappointed every time”. In the first verse, she goes on to describe their current dynamic- how it is new and enticing, slightly nerve wracking, but completely something she could get used to. The chorus is full of all of the things she is hoping for and what she likes the most about their relationship currently. She sings, “I could get used to your hand in my hand / Your lips on my lips / The way that you make this jaded heart skip a beat”. With electric guitars and a belting Velasco, it is hard not to dance to this beat and feel these feelings with her. We reach the title at the end of the chorus, when she sings, “I could get used to your name on my phone”. Originally hailing from South Carolina, Kat Velasco is now a Nashville based singer-songwriter. Growing up involved in musical theater, she developed a love and appreciation for music and its storytelling at a very young age. Her first original song was released in 2021, being a single labeled “Leave Me Wild”. She headlined her first Nashville show this past summer at Exit/In, and is growing her stage presence by opening for various artists like Jon Pardi, Frank Ray, and Tierra Kennedy. She has almost 5,000 monthly listeners on Spotify, and over 80,000 streams on her 2022 song with Greg Keys, “Waiting On Forever”. • Review: "Ice Cream Cake" - Songbird

“Ice Cream Cake” by Songbird is her latest single which shows us the heartbreak of having friendships that are all too often one sided. Throughout your entire life you will have hundreds of people you will call your friends, maybe even more. But there comes a point where you ask yourself if they really are your true friends. Friends don’t sit there and make excuses on why they don’t want to see you. They don’t tell you things that make you feel bad about yourself and try to tell you who to be. A true friend will sit there and be their authentic self. They won’t make you second guess your friendship and they certainly won’t make you feel any less of a person. If you can’t be yourself in any kind of relationship, then they are really just not your kind of person.   Songbird has the most gentle and soft vocals I have ever heard. Her voice was so soothing and elegant but also really powerful. She reminded me of Adele in the way she was able to change her vocal range quickly but yet so blissfully. I loved how this song went from a slow and soft beat to a fast paced with so much emotion present. You could just feel the anger and sadness throughout the entire track. Paired with her vocals were the catchy melodies throughout they really gave this song so much energy.   Hailing from Brick, New Jersey Songbird is kicking off her musical journey flawlessly. The talented vocalist is just 25 years old with numerous awards to her name. Starting off her musical career in 2023 with her first single titled “Stubborn” which is about the determination to keep loving your partner no matter what. Through her relatable lyrics and outstanding vocals, she has already won the hearts of many. She strives to be true to her work while also making sure her listeners can relate and find inspiration in everything she does.
