  • Review: "For You" - Bohardt

Grappling with the complexities of personal struggles and romance, Bohardt's song "For You" takes you through feelings of intensity, hope, and grief with its powerful words. At the start of the song, listeners can sink into the emotions of contradiction as the speaker expresses love for their partner alongside feelings of detachment with lyrics like "won't be home for a while". Reflecting on the impacts the speaker's uncertainty has on their partner with words like "maybe your heart's torn, body weak on the floor", this track takes on the pain of hurting someone you care about. Repetition throughout the track, especially at the end, expresses the want to change for the sake of the person they are hurting. Moving from a bright electronic tune and blossoming into deep intensity in vocals and instrumentals, this emotional track tells a story through its sound. Resonant and glowing, the note patterns that open the song create an echoing sense of dark excitement before Bohardt's soulful pop vocals join in. Percussion picks up throughout the track, offering an invigorating pulse to the tune. A touch of emo angst twinges the cool alternative pop sound of this track, blending electronically distorted riffs with expressive vocals. Synth chords blend beautifully with the feelings of urgency and confusion folded throughout the lyrics. "For You" is perfect for listeners who like edgy pop that makes your heart race. Bohardt is a musician from Los Angeles with a guitar-driven alternative pop style. His evocative lyricism and emotional style resonates with listeners and explores complex themes like a introspection, substance use, and relationship struggles. With a discography of singles and EPs, Bohardt's music will take you through deeply meaningful and moving moods. • Review: "Not in the Mood" - deegie

Being a female in society is a constant challenge. We face gender inequality, unrealistic beauty standards, impossible expectations, etc. You can be everything you know you want and need to be yet you’re still doing a terrible job in societies eyes. Deegie is an artists who has been degraded in comments for being a woman over 30 who makes rock music. People hate to see a woman succeed and that inspired her new song “Not in the Mood.” It’s a pop punk feminist anthem about a women’s experience in a mans world. They think they can silence us, but the time for that is long over. Songs like “Not in the Mood” are written to challenge peoples old minded views and normalize the anger and frustration about social injustices and it's important to bring them in into the light. Deegie has become known for her emotional directness in her lyricism that has prompted the question “What makes you so angry?” Deegie answered it by saying “There’s something about a woman being raw, bold, and fierce that makes people uncomfortable.” She was directly on the mark with her reply and it’s so infuriating that after all these years, women still face gender shame. “Not in the Mood” encapsulates all the anger caused from men’s expectations of us and the hatred that builds up from it. “I’ve kept my mouth shut, nice and pretty, never bare my teeth or bite.” With the layers of raw electric guitar, energetic drums and passionate vocals, this is a song that will having you screaming at the top of your lungs. “You don’t care bout my point of view, I wonder what’s the point of you?” Deegie is a pop-punk princess who writes anthemic melodies with gut-punching lyrics. If you’re a fan of Olivia Rodrigo or Avril Lavigne then she’s the artist you need to add to your playlist. She released her debut single “Smile, It’s Over :)” in 2022 and nine other’s since then. Her debut album EXES was released in 2024 and goes over the brutal honesty of the chaos in dating. “Not in the Mood” is the second song off her next EP titled Feminism 101. Deegie writes from personal experiences and emotions creating a diary like style for her music that we can listen and relate to. • Review: "Miss U" - Amanda Cy

The relationship might have ended, but the heart will want what the heart will want. The inevitable feeling that comes when we haven’t completely moved on is missing our previous partner, and that being basically the only thing we can think about even when we’re told it will pass eventually. Amanda Cy’s first single of 2025 is a rock pop anthem about exactly that, entitled “Miss U”, and will be part of her upcoming EP “LOVEGRUNGE”. This track has everything you’d want out of the rock pop genre: a layered, deep-toned soundscape, smooth vocals, and lyrics that speak straight to the broken heart. You’ll be pulled into Cy’s music the moment the first beat hits, and you’ll be missing it the moment the song ends. I love a song that can have multiple perspectives, multiple angles, and when it comes to “Miss U”, there are plenty. The song’s lyrics make it absolutely applicable to a standard relationship, as you might “drink half the bar” and “spill[...] [your] secrets and all [your] drinks” after a breakup, but it’s also made clear that this can illustrate the push and pull of a situationship. The narrator is told not to call their sort-of partner, to keep it casual, but knows that they’ll end up in their arms anyways. And then they begin to miss them, and the cycle will repeat. The soundscape only adds to this cyclical feeling. It’s wrapped in synth, and an overall darker tone; this remains for the song’s entire runtime, energy raising during the chorus but still keeping that same vibe throughout the track. If you’re like me and have crossfade enabled on Spotify when listening to the song, you’ll also find that the track repeats perfectly on loop. It makes for such an interesting listening experience, since the song deals with being stuck missing somebody. Amanda Cy has truly outdone herself with “Miss U”, creating an anthem for those of us who can’t help but cling onto what we have lost, and could lose. Singer-songwriter Amanda Cy was born in London and raised in Stockholm, and her music has come to reflect both roots. Not defined by any genre, her sound is wholly dedicated to creating fantastic music. She’s inspired by the Swedish wilderness, taking in the gorgeous views and simply enjoying the moment, as well as analyzing how nature interlocks together in fitting systems. Split between Stockholm and London, Cy puts her creative energy toward collaborations and self-releasing projects; she has recently worked alongside artists such as Daniela Rathana, Caity Baser, Gatlin, and Cloudy June. Cy got her start in 2021 with her debut single “My Name Next To Yours"; her debut EP “Ugh!” released the same year. “LOVEGRUNGE” will be Cy’s third EP, with “Miss U” supplying a gritty tone to the project. • Review: "Love Me More" - David Wimbish & The Collection

"Love Me More" paints a vivid picture of what it looks like to be trapped by your own mental health. It also describes what it looks like for the love you have for others to be affected by your mental health. We gain an understanding of what it's like to feel like, due to the war in your mind, you're not only failing to show up for your partner but also for yourself. "Love Me More" is packed with strong lyrics that help break this concept down in a clear and relatable way. One of my favorite lines says, "What if you love me more than I can return? / Like a building on fire by a cigarette burn / You love me more than I can give back / Penny laid down on an old train track / Are you choosing me while I'm losing you? / What if you love me more than I do?" I think these lines speak volumes on how scary it can be to not know if you truly love yourself. One of the most impactful and heartbreaking lines comes towards the end of the song when it says, "And I'm always tongue-tied at the wrong time / For a long time / And I know that you get your strength back / When I lose mine / And I always lose mine / So, here we go again, here we go again / Bring me back again, bring me back again." The artist makes his feelings very clear within these lyrics. It allows us to shoulder some of the pain and hurt regarding the situation, which makes the song even more beautiful. When it comes to the tone of "Love Me More," I would say it is very tender and introspective, with a sprinkle of longing and vulnerability. The artist longs to love the other person in a healthy way. He longs to love himself in a healthy way. By putting these emotions out there, it leaves him very vulnerable. We get a look at the complexities of love and the emotional journey that we go through when faced with such challenges. This helps set the mood, which seems a bit more melancholic due to the overall message of the song. There's a very beautiful mix of instruments throughout the song, including the acoustic guitar, piano, and some subtle percussion. These instruments work in harmony with the lyrics which helps amplify the emotional weight. The way the lyrics weave into the instrumentation helps create space for the heartfelt message behind the song. David Wimbish & The Collective is a Saxapahaw, North Carolina-based band. They place emphasis not only on their music itself, but also interpersonal community and relationships as well. This emphasis has allowed them to generate tens of millions of streams, log many hours on the road, and become recognized by American Songwriter, Glide, Parade and more. They have lit up many festival stages and traveled the country with the likes of The Oh Hellos, RIPE, Tall Heights, and Sammy Rae & The Friends. This past January, they released their EP "How To Survive an Ending." When asked about "Love Me More" Wimbish said, "Love Me More is an accidental prophecy. A song born of deep-seated fear that my depression handicaps my end of romantic mutuality, and eventually erodes my partner's energy for me. And it did." He continued on saying, "A few short weeks after writing 'Love Me More,' the relationship it grasped for ended. That ending, however, confirmed the suspicions echoed in this song. Maybe my mental health struggles wear on the relationship less because of how I show up for my partner, and more because of how poorly I show up for myself. 'Love Me More' is a vulnerable challenge to love myself better, and thus the people that care for me." Check out the song "Love Me More." You won't regret it. • Review: "Bleed Out" - Faye Ven

Figuring out where selflessness and putting yourself first in a relationship describes Faye Ven’s lyrics in her new single, Bleed Out. Faye describes her song as reflecting on "having to choose yourself despite hurting them because it's only when you leave that they see your value." Her lyrics delve into finding the right moment to be selfish in relationships while still understanding the person hurting the narrator is being hurt back. The speaker knows the person causing turmoil and hurt is negatively impacting their bond, yet they cannot seem to entirely walk away. There's a push-and-pull between wanting to stay and feeling like the relationship brings out dismal emotions or behaviors. The narrator feels torn between their love for the other person and the awareness that staying may be unhealthy. The title can be interpreted to represent leaving someone else to die – or in this case, bleed out – because they do not appreciate or know what they have until it is gone.  Faye’s voice combined with the soft but catchy beat allows for the music to resonate with any listener struggling to call it quits. The song’s tone is bittersweet, blending melancholy and quiet determination. Its slow tempo and intimate arrangement mirror the reflective nature of the lyrics. In the ever-so-vast landscape of relationships, the music captures a feeling that can only be felt through the profound lyrics. Faye’s voice, raw and emotive, adds to the vulnerability conveyed in the music, making the listener feel as though they are being let into a deeply personal moment. The overall sound evokes a sense of longing and introspection, leaving listeners with a mix of hurt and catharsis, as they experience both the pain and release of the song’s emotional depth. Releasing her debut single in November of 2023, Faye has recently entered the indie pop world and is gaining traction fast. Bleed Out  is her second single, released in November 2024.  Driven by a lifelong passion for alternative music, she pursued an artist and songwriter career before shifting her focus to empowering others in the industry. Currently based out of the Netherlands, Faye’s being can be summarized in her own words as “tried, sensitive, and overly dramatic.” With a fun and sarcastic personality shining through her social media posts, Faye has her heart and soul in the music industry. Her creative mind and voice await your ears to laugh, smile, and maybe even cry.  Written By Adalyn Reichenberger FOLLOW FAYE VEN: Instagram | Spotify  | TikTok  | YouTube

  • Review: "Back 2 Me" - Jack Pavlina

Photo Credits: Jesus Rosales Jack Pavlina’s new single “Back 2 Me” expands on the troublesome journey of trying to find yourself but feeling stuck in the in-between. The song, in a way, serves as a theme for being trapped in a liminal space, having the urge to move forward and progress but still holding back. “Back 2 Me” creates a simple atmosphere with its limited instrumentals but it is grand in lyricism as it perfectly translates Pavlina’s inner struggle as he grows into adulthood. With this pop track, we can hear the embodiment of feeling so lost while also having the urgency to move. The complexity of these emotions, paired with the laidback pop sounds create a perfectly balanced anthem for us listeners to truly understand Jack Pavlina and where he stands. This tale begins with a gentle piano, creating a melancholic ambiance. This then transitions to a more modern and catchier beat. It’s a nice mix of elements that can represent opposing factors that the speaker faces. As previously mentioned, the instrumentals are laidback, not in a lazy way, but instead in a calming manner that eases the anxiety of the lyrical content. Pavlina has the classic male pop vocalist sound, and it adds to the charm of the song. He sings the song with such ease you almost forget how difficult the words he’s saying can be to reflect on. There’s a lot of honesty that’s birthed from “Back 2 Me,” especially when we look at the isolation factor of the speaker’s situation. For outsiders, it can be confusing to understand how alone one can feel even when surrounded by other people, but Pavlina expresses these feelings of loneliness so well. A song like “Back 2 Me” that’s so personal to the artist is always the most loved by audiences as listeners love to see musicians share their vulnerability in a way everyone can connect to, and that’s what Jack Pavlina has mastered. Jack Pavlina is an artist hailing from California who has developed quite a name for himself. He has received praise for his captivating lyricism and complex sounds. In the past, he has won the Artist Showcase at the Musicians Institute and has had the opportunity to tour with artists like Shwayze. His previous album “Dennis” received praise for the different elements that came together to shape this work. “Back 2 Me” is an introduction to his upcoming album “ANXTY” which is set to be released in March. The album is said to be a continuation of the themes introduced by “Back 2 Me” exploring anxiety and other emotions that play a role in adulthood. With that, we are left with nothing but excitement for Jack Pavlina. • Review: "Remedy" - Dela Kay

Picking up the pieces after a breakup seems like the hardest part of the experience, and sometimes the one thing you need is a remedy. “Remedy” by Dela Kay is about navigating love after a relationship is over and deciding whether or not to give it another shot. There are always consequences but sometimes all you really need is a clear solution. A remedy is something that can correct a wrong or make up for a loss. Relationships can end for many reasons, but there isn’t always a way to mend a broken heart. With wishful thinking and determination, the right remedy can rebuild a relationship. Dela believes this song bridges the gap between introspection and optimism and finding the balance between the two, and the lyrics definitely represent that.  “It’s not real love if it don’t hurt” is the first lyric that opens up the song and when you think about it, it is really complex. In any relationship there are ups and downs. There’s no such thing as a manual or a set of rules for a perfect relationship. Through any challenge that may arise, your love should be the one thing that remains true. However, challenges can either make your love stronger or weaker. This song is about revisiting an old relationship and trying to make it work again. With a past of old lies and harboring feelings of anger, Dela tried to set those aside. She knows that she might be the remedy to this relationship and would be able to get back into her ex's mind. She can be the cure that fixes what was once broken. She doesn’t want to fade away and be a memory in his life, and after everything they went through, she wants to give this failed relationship another chance. Another powerful lyric is “Put my heart on the line just to keep me waiting”. She’s putting herself in a vulnerable position just for there not to be a clear answer on the current status of their relationship. She’s in a state of yearning, and it doesn’t necessarily have to be for her ex, but it could be for a sign of peace and closure. “Remedy” by Dela Kay is an electrifying alt-pop track about finding the cure for a failed relationship and a broken heart. Produced by Stefano Pigliapoco and Nick Cozine, this track embodies a true pop punk sound, especially from the early 2000s. I also got undertones of retro 80s elements to the song as well. Although this is a post-breakup song, the song is very upbeat and catchy. The chorus has a nice hook that once you listen to it, you’ll be singing it over and over. Dela is an amazing singer, and her voice is perfectly suited for any alternative, punk, indie, or pop sound. The drum is the leading force of the instrumentation and serves as the musical foundation. This song is clearly well-produced and an immediate hit.  Dela Kay is a singer-songwriter currently taking over the Nashville music scene. She received some recognition in 2014 after her collaboration with Grammy winning singer-songwriter and producer Femke Weidema. Through that partnership, she was able to release her first single “9 out of 10” in 2016. She released her 2019 single “All My Love” through Sony Music that sat at the 49th spot on the top 150 global artists chart for Digital Radio Tracker as well as in the top ten for the Top Independent Charts. She has over 11.4k monthly listeners on Spotify and has had many songs reach a successful number of streams on the platform. Dela Kay is a rising star and certainly one to keep your eyes on. • Review: "If You Love Me" - Cece Benz

Pop newcomer Cece Benz just released her latest single, “If You Love Me,” on January 10, 2025. It is both written and performed by her. The confessional track recounts her experience being with someone that she was never quite sure of in their feelings. While they may say that they love her, their actions don't seem to prove that, and she wishes that they would. It feels like the backdrop in a coming-of-age film. If you are looking for a new indie pop artist to add to your rotation, don’t overlook Cece Benz. Her music blends indie pop soundscapes with heartfelt lyricism and a hint of soul. "If You Love Me" opens with Cece reflecting on how the person she's with purchased a bottle of red wine, while she only drinks white. Love is not just a word; it's an action. As she considers how this person isn't noticing the small details, she wishes they would actually show her this love. In the chorus, she sings, "If you love me / Say it loud / Don't hold back / Shout it out." She just wants to be seen and appreciated by the person she loves. Cece expresses this sentiment with impassioned vocals and an acoustic-driven production, creating a poignant listening experience as she gets candid about wanting someone to prove with their actions that they love you. Cece Benz is an aspiring indie pop singer-songwriter from Atlanta, Georgia. Her musical journey began when she was twelve, writing and performing original music. She is currently furthering her craft by studying at Berklee College of Music in Boston. • Review: "Daydream Police" - Peyton Shay

A part of her newest EP, Peyton Shay grounds us in reality with her titular single, "Daydream Police." The track cements the artist as a bold voice in alt-pop, capturing the tension between longing and self-awareness as Shay fantasizes about what she can't have. It's a playful spin on the harsh reality, bringing listeners back from their daydreams and accepting that sometimes things don't work out the way we'd like them to. Sharing the meaning behind the track's narrative, Peyton states, "Daydream Police is about the tug-of-war between fantasy and control. It’s personal, ironic, and a little dangerous." Spunky and vibrant, Peyton Shay blends 2000's pop-nostalgia with modern rock, creating the perfect alt-pop/pop-rock soundscape in "Daydream Police." The stellar track from an equally stunning EP features thrilling instrumentals and captivating melodies, complimenting Shay's light, wispy vocals with energetic beats, electrifying guitar riffs, and rich harmonies. • Review: "Slow It Down" - Ben Barnes

“Slow It Down” is one of twelve tracks on Ben Barnes’ debut album, Where The Light Gets In , but this soulful song is a definite standout. The track is a beautifully written love song that talks about what it feels like to find the one. Barnes’s lyrics showcase the kind of love that seems almost effortless – one that makes being in the moment seem like second nature. The lyrics, “Life moves pretty fast // With you I think I finally found // How to make it last // Slow it down,” are a heartfelt ode that capture an indescribable connection. Speaking about the song, Barnes said, “‘Slow It Down’ is a love song. The purest song I’ve ever written about a very specific feeling; the feeling that with some people, time slows down and you don’t have to work to stay present.” It only took one listen to make me instantly fall in love with “Slow It Down.” The song’s retro vibe reminds me of a classic love song that you might of heard coming out of Motown. The track also has a stripped down feel to it – further adding even more feelings of warmth and intimacy that are echoed by Barnes’s lyrics. What really blew me away was Barnes’ voice. From the first note, I was immediately drawn in by the pure soul that I heard. The runs, subtle inflections of falsetto, and ability to masterfully weave between his deeper chest voice and higher register head voice, were impeccable. Ben Barnes, the musician, has officially arrived, and “Slow It Down” is a definite standout. If you’re a fan of shows like Westworld , and The Punisher , and the film series, The Chronicles of Narnia , then you’re probably familiar with Ben Barnes. He’s an acclaimed actor who is now looking to reintroduce himself to the world as a soulful singer-songwriter that speaks from the heart. Music has been a part of Barnes’ life for as long as he could remember. He began writing songs and working with producers when he was 19, but put his musical aspirations aside when his acting career began to skyrocket. In 2021, Barnes released his debut EP Songs for You . Since then, Barnes has kept his foot on the gas performing in iconic L.A. venues like the Troubadour and Hotel Café, and the Bowery Ballroom in New York. Barnes’ pop/ soul-inspired debut album, Where The Light Gets In , was released on January 10th and he’s now gearing up to tour the U.K. and Europe in February.
