- Review: "graduate" - frau
frau’s newest single, "graduate," is an emotional pop/garage/hyperpop song dedicated to her little sister who is graduating from high school. Can you all remember how scary it was to get out in the real world? Scary can have many different faces. It could be moving to a different city, starting a new relationship, or not even sure what you want to do with your life. Adulthood means we have to experience these things over and over and over again. Growing up and getting older will be difficult and uncertain, but now that you’re an adult, you have the ability and responsibility to decide what your future is going to look like from here on out. "graduate" starts with a small musical intro that leads into the pre-chorus and chorus. “It’s late. Wake up. Put your makeup on. I know it’s hard, but you’re almost done. Just a few more months and then you’re gone. You’ll be free to run.” “Go. Get out to California, but only if you wanna. Go. Get out. Get your heart broken. It’s part of getting older. Go.” These lyrics are describing the freedom that comes with graduating and all the potential experiences one could explore. The production is so good and hooks you immediately in the first few seconds. I can’t decide if I want to cry and reflect on my youth or bop my head and shake my hips. I’m having confusing emotions over here, but all you need to know is that the song is great and I recommend it. frau is an alternative pop singer, songwriter, and producer. She has released original music dating back to 2020. "graduate," the first single off of their upcoming debut album, is reminiscent of Oklou and Caroline Polachek . Oklou and Carolina Polachek have both been in the industry for years and have made alternative/indie/experimental pop. You can clearly hear the influences in the song. If you’re interested in hearing more music from her, I suggest following her on Spotify, Instagram, TikTok, and Facebook, which I have linked down below. Give her as much love as possible and be on the lookout for her debut album! Written By Jazz FOLLOW frau: Instagram | Spotify | TikTok | Facebook
- Review: "Race with no end" - Sarina
"Race with no end" is the newest single from Sarina, a song about always getting back up after trial and error to succeed at something, no matter how many times it takes. It may feel easy to give up when things get too hard, but you also miss all of the shots you don't take, so instead of giving up, you sometimes need to try over and over again until you're able to achieve your goals; with the help of others, this becomes easier and you will be more motivated to do this. The whole song exudes great confidence and willpower, with the lyrics describing that and encouraging others to have the same mindset. Like the lyrics, the instrumentation of "Race with no end" is just as positive and empowering. The song is able to convey a message not only through its lyrics, but also its sound. Filled with guitar strums, string arrangements, and reverbed drums and synths, this song definitely puts a pep in your step and boosts your mood and confidence after just one listen, but you won't want to stop listening. Sarina also has amazing vocals, and she sings wonderfully throughout the song with incredible melodies. To top it all off, the bridge is a violin solo, yet another show of creativity from the production. Sarina is music artist from and based in Tokyo, Japan. Before she began releasing official music, she posted original songs and covers on her YouTube channel. In April 2022, she released her first studio single "Identity". She released her debut EP Foreword in August 2023, and her debut album Break Out!! in October 2024. All are fantastic pieces of music, thanks to Sarina's virtuosity, knowing how to play several different instruments. In addition to her music career, she has made some more YouTube videos. - Review: "DELERIOUS" - CMAGIC5
"DELERIOUS" by CMAGIC5 is an earworm-inducing hit featuring a rock-pop artist who uses her lyrics to channel her inner rock star. The song touches on themes of heartbreak and anger, confused about the intentions of those around her. Her confident voice enhances the experience, delivering this song in ways big artists today could not replicate. Her high-energy ambiance correlates with her art, promising an unforgettable ride for listeners. The fast-paced beat and powerful chorus reflect her emotional whirlwind, drawing the audience into her world. This catchy and fast beat anthem combines the exciting lyrics with undeniably cohesive production. With electric guitar riffs, drums, and synth patterns, this song takes every listener on a roller coaster of energy. Each element works together to build this song and makes it feel both polished and raw, adding to the emotional impact of its delivery. It's messy, hair ripping It's messy, hair-ripping, and completely unfiltered in the best way. The chaos in the production mirrors the confusion and frustration in the lyrics, creating a powerful connection between sound and story. CMAGIC5, also known as 'C', is a Toronto-based singer/songwriter, musician, and recording artist. Combining pop with rock n roll, C excels in the language of music. Her vibe and aesthetic feed off of bedroom dancing, screaming lyrics with a hairbrush in hand. With themes of toxic friends, heartbreak, and self-limiting beliefs, C channels that anger into song to help others belt out the emotion through song. C's upcoming album is made for those needing a good cry, a loud sing-along, or a reminder that they’re not alone. - Review: "The Other Side of Twenty Five" - St. Catherine's Child
We all wish we could give our younger selves some advice. Maybe you want to warn them about something, or perhaps you just want to tell them that things get better, but St. Catherine’s Child’s “The Other Side of Twenty Five” is more of an exploration into her youth. It’s less advice and more like a conversation– or a consolation. A country-tinged indie ballad, this song is St. Catherine’s Child’s dive into our shifting perspectives when we are confronted with mortality. Listeners are taken on a journey through her father’s passing as she dispenses wisdom and introspection upon a situation so unimaginable. This track will speak to any of you who are going through a major transition in your life, and is hopefully a comfort to you. If you love a poignant ballad, then “The Other Side of Twenty Five” has got you more than covered. The track is filled with beautiful songwriting and folk influences; there are gentle twinkles combined with soft percussion and smooth vocals. And that guitar is fantastic– just a little twangy in the intro, but it always makes room for the other instrumentation. I really loved how the entire production felt like a conversation, all very calm and guided. The songwriting is where the song truly shines, though, with St. Catherine’s Child’s amazing eloquence on full display in this track. This track will definitely hit home hard for anyone who’s gone through the extremely tough transition between having a parent and then losing them– especially to a terminal illness. Highlighting innocence lost and wisdom gained from those moments, "The Other Side of Twenty Five" is infinitely relatable yet still personal, and I think that's what makes it such a magical song. Ilana Zsigmond is the woman behind St. Catherine’s Child. A transatlantic singer-songwriter who hails from England, Ilana has been surrounded by music since her childhood. She bounced around continents as her musical parents toured. Before she settled back in the UK in 2015, she formed a band that reflected her childhood Americana aesthetics while combining the dry wit of her British sensibilities. She’s known for her eloquence and vocal strength, which St. Catherine’s Child encompasses in each track. Her 2020 debut single “Burden” released to major success. Likewise, her 2023 debut EP Every Generation made a huge splash. “The Other Side of Twenty Five” is part of her upcoming debut album This Might Affect You . Be sure to drop St. Catherine’s Child a follow if you loved this track and want to be there for her album’s release date on June 15th! Written By Alexa Leung FOLLOW ST. - Album Review: "PRINCESS OF POWER" - MARINA
“PRINCESS OF POWER” is the newest and sixth album from immensely talented singer, songwriter, and producer MARINA . It features songs of freedom, passion, and love with a video game concept represented in the lyrics and production. T R A C K L I S T She went by Marina and the Diamonds from 2005 to 2018, and released the albums The Family Jewels , Electra Heart , and FROOT , iconic works of art which formed a large majority of today’s pop stars and their music. When she changed her stage name to MARINA, she released LOVE + FEAR and Ancient Dreams In A Modern Land , spellbinding masterpieces that were about love and growth while living and loving life and also spoke about important issues around the world. It’s without a doubt that MARINA is one of the most important artists of the 21st century. She set the precedent for how pop music needs to be crafted, and serves as the inspiration for the music that either plays on radios everywhere or is streamed over and over again by millions of fans. In June 2025, she released PRINCESS OF POWER , yet another incredible record that proves its impossible for MARINA to make anything other than spectacular music. PRINCESS OF POWER An album about newfound freedom and embarking on fresh beginnings needs to come with a first track explaining just that; this is the embodiment of the album’s title track “PRINCESS OF POWER”. It starts off with strings as MARINA sings the introduction verse before the production jumps off a diving board and plunges into a pool of an up-beat and energetic bass and clap combination. As more of her hauntingly beautiful vocals pour in, so do drawn out and sci-fi-esque synths, akin to meditation music but is given a completely new meaning in the production of this song. In the chorus, more sound effects like this, as well as the strings returning, can be heard, and this continues for the rest of the track. The first step in rebirth is accepting that you need to move on from a past that held you back so you can move forward; this is the moral of the lyrics. BUTTERFLY The second track but first single for the album, "Butterfly", comes not only with infectious vocals and ethereal production, but with a leadup of genius marketing. To promote the song, preceding its release, MARINA sent select fans a caterpillar, with instructions on how to raise them until they enter metamorphosis, and finally become a butterfly. Soon after, the title of track and release date were revealed. Listening to the song feels like you're floating through the clouds, but another creative element of the song's whole presence is how MARINA's vocals are pitched-up in the chorus. Like a butterfly, MARINA sings about turning a new leaf, describing her past as being a caterpillar, and being in the present as a butterfly, or living a new and better life than before. She was able to achieve this by letting the toxic people in her life go, which enabled her to be free from the past and look forward to the present and future. CUNTISSIMO "issimo" is a suffix in Italian that means "very" in English, and is connected to words to add emphasis. So, of course, in the third track "CUTISSIMO", MARINA describes how her life is cuntissimo . She reassess her popstar power and wealth, the beauty of being single, the enjoys of going on holiday and traveling the world, and not without good friends alongside her. She feels free to do whatever she wants, an amazing feeling many people experience after leaving any toxic environment. While also romanticizing nature and self-indulgence, she says that this is "a way of life", and the song’s title is half-English and half-Italian because she "live[s] the American life" and "live[s] the Italian dream". While the term is actually "American dream", her writing "life" instead reverses that, where she subscribes to how most Americans live, but then not "settling down", which she refers to in the pre-choruses. ROLLERCOASTER One perhaps would not expect to hear a beat similar to the one that was used in “Hollaback Girl” by Gwen Stefani on a MARINA song, but then again, anything is possible. The term “roller coaster” used in the track is not an actual roller coaster, or maybe not just a roller coaster, but a metaphor for wanting to experience the beauty of life and all the happiness that comes with it. MARINA has jaw dropping vocals all throughout the album, but the way she can sing at such an incredibly high pitch during the chorus left me speechless the first time I listened to it, and most likely many other people as well. “ROLLERCOASTER” is like if walking in the sky on a sunny day was a song. CUPID'S GIRL Like “CUNTIMISSO”, the fifth track of the album also has a rapid, racing heartbeat-like beat that adds great intensity to the overall feeling of the song, and based on the title and lyrics, its the perfect choice of style for the production. MARINA equates herself to Cupid, a god who is able to make people fall in love no matter what with a shot of an arrow. Her singing about her love interest being unable to not have feelings for her can be seen as her shooting a “love arrow” at that person, where the feelings are so immense it feels as though their brain has told them they have no other choice but to fall for MARINA back. After each chorus, a synth that sounds like a siren plays, just one of the very distinct and creative elements of the song’s production. METALLIC STALLION Although MARINA has been living a new life in the previous tracks of “PRINCESS OF POWER”, she now sings about an ex that keeps emerging from her past, no matter how hard she tries to push them away. She details how they were toxic, and were not fit to be in a relationship, which is why it doesn’t make sense that they want her back so desperately, since it's been proven impossible to be with them. The production of the song is a gradual build up, like it's telling a story through sound. The beat doesn’t come in until the latter half of the song, which can be viewed as the rising action. Then, the drums that intensify towards the end, which sound like a horse galloping, or a “STALLION”, is the climax, and then the rest of the song is the falling action and resolution. JE NE SAIS QOUI The line “I’m so into you, you’re hotter than God” is all the proof needed to show you that this song is iconic. “JE NE SAIS QUOI” contains a lovely, elegant, and picturesque production amongst the lyrics of a love song of matching traits. MARINA experiences love at first sight, and before she can introduce herself or even interact with this person at all, she wonders what this person is like, and because they are so attractive, she hopes that they are her type in regards to their personality as well. The exciting moment and feeling of butterflies you get when you first get a crush and are anxious to talk to them are perfectly captured in this song. DIGITAL FANTASY Track eight of the album is about the disappointment that has come with being with someone who’s obsessed with the internet and not being present in the real world, and now has unrealistic expectations for their partner. They have learned how love works through fiction, whether it be movies or TV shows, and they think they know how to connect with others romantically, but they don’t. MARINA recognizes this and decides to leave this person because they are immature for this. Like the title, the song has 8-bit and video games sound effects and production, including MARINA’s voice having autotune to create a retro atmosphere. EVERYBODY KNOWS I'M SAD One of MARINA’s specialties is making fun and upbeat-sounding songs with sad lyrics, “EVERYBODY KNOWS I’M SAD” being one of them. She explains how she spends most days alone, and that it upsets her that she can’t spend time with others. She wants to, but finds it very hard to get out of the house and be able to do things. She has thoughts in which she believes she’s destined to be alone for the rest of her life, and she can’t find the will to go out. She feels very isolated because of this, causing her great sadness. She is aware that people know all of these things about her and that her not wanting to go out is making her feel bad. HELLO KITTY MARINA shares what she’s like and what her boundaries are on “HELLO KITTY”. She explains how she expresses her romantic feelings. What seems like a sequel to “EVERYBODY KNOWS I’M SAD”, MARINA is starting to open up to spending time with others again, something she was drifting away from because she’s been wronged in the past. In the tenth track, she sings about all of her attributes that any potential partner needs to know about her and accept and not judge before being able to be in a relationship with her. This track has a slow tempo and features the strums of a guitar and a very elegant and cute beat. I <3 YOU This song might as well be a time travel machine set for the era of disco, which is the overall theme of the song, the line “We’re going to the ‘70s””, adding to this. It’s like it was produced with the overall concept of the song sounding like a time capsule from the time period, with several different elements supporting this, including the production and the spoken second verse, as well as the lyrics, in which people are falling in love on the dance floor and the fun never seems to stop. Once again, MARINA showcases her amazing vocals, them being in a very high pitch again throughout almost the entire song, as she’s extremely talented. ADULT GIRL The penultimate track is a somber ballad, shedding light on how innocence can be taken away from a young age, and you mourn it as you grow older. It’s very easy to be thrown into a world that you aren’t prepared for yet, because the world you’ve been living in is hurting you and you have no other choice but to escape. There are important moments in adolescence that you have to miss out on that you didn’t know were going to happen, all because you didn’t want to be in pain anymore. Now that you’re older, you desperately wish you can go back and relive the time when you were younger and do things over, but you can’t, so all you can do is feel bad and reminisce on what you weren’t able to have. FINAL BOSS The final track, aptly titled “FINAL BOSS”, fights back against those who think and act as though they’re more powerful than you, when in reality they’re not. Whether the lyrics are directed towards a person or multiple people, it retains the overall message of not letting people use you and treat you as less than, and to call those people out if they try to. This is another song on the album that features video game and sci-fi inspired production, which is supplemented by the lines “Finish him!”, “Thank you, Mario // But our princess is in another castle”, and “Game over”. The songs that were like this track greatly represented the video game concept for this album. I’ve listened to every MARINA album, and this is by far her greatest record yet. To outdo yourself every time you release an album is a feat not many have accomplished, but MARINA seems to do effortlessly whenever she makes music. Having a hand in all aspects of her songs, including writing and producing, shows how dedicated she is to her craft. She was born to be a popstar, with her endless musical abilities, inspirational storytelling, and insane vocal talent, as well her overall aesthetics that she has been able to pull off for every album era she’s done. I’ve been a huge MARINA fan for many years, and I didn’t think I could be even more of a fan than I already was, but PRINCESS OF POWER was able to do just that. - Review: "your girl for a while" - KARINA
KARINA captivates with infectious verses that communicate her story through a high-gain string expedition paired with lovely vocals delivering longing licks of lyricism. KARINA’s cutthroat intro describes the murder scene they left for her to clean up, singing “ there’s dirt on my skin and blood outside my veins/ I built up a wall to carve out your whole name, ” attributing her dedication and isolation to the effects of someone so hurtful. This is the pain of absence, asking “ was it the way that she laughed or the hope in her smile? ” begging for a rundown of why she’s been traded so effortlessly. KARINA pulls it together to assert “ yeah, you were my everything but/ I was just your for a while, ” returning a familiar, bitter nonchalance. KARINA’s “your girl for a while” is a sickening account of the wrath of loss, and even worse, betrayal. In “your girl for a while”, KARINA casts a shadow past a guitar in overdrive as she rhythmically coos into the mic for a fire and ice intro that begs for recognition. The deep strings provide a baseline for the entire track. Coarse chord progressions lead to a standalone flutter of vocals that result in KARINA’s contained wail, encompassed by a light beat and the same hefty strings. The beat moves from electronic grunge to a passionate, pop exclamation. The shift between grime and glass auras deliver a sense of oscillation that drives an emotional connection to the track. KARINA’s voice is altogether distinct, gentle, and radiant, giving listeners whiplash with her range and genre-bending. From Williamsburg, VA, KARINA addresses mental health, trauma, lost innocence, and more in her timely music. Her voice is reminiscent of Isabella DeFir' s " Debt ", but KARINA remains unique in her sound. She is now based in Richmond, VA and has released 8 singles, plus a debut full-length album thus far. She notes that Richmond’s scenery and artistic culture is responsible for some of her inspiration. Her first single “Out of Air” was released in 2023, and her first album “what happened to the little girl?” was released in 2024. This debut album was co-written and produced by Lawrence Grivich (Don of Pop Studios). Her style is unmistakably authentic, and her lyrics lacerate listeners. Recognition for KARINA, and her art, is a necessity in 2025. Written By Hanna Hathaway FOLLOW KARINA: Instagram | Spotify | TikTok | YouTube
- Review: "Pure (Don't You Still Remember?)" - Hallie Marie
Breaking up with someone that you really care about and still love is a pain no one can warn you about. Whether the relationship went bad on both ends or just one you still feel like something is missing from your life. A million thoughts race through your mind like what are they doing right now and do they miss me. It’s the most normal thing one can think about when losing someone they never thought would go. But it’s also something that seriously hurt your well-being. Hallie Marie released her brand new single “Pure (Don’t You Still Remember?)” on May 21, 2025. This song reminds us that thinking about all the what if’s before and after a relationship is normal. Feel everything you possibly can the pain, anger, sadness and hatred because it’s the one thing that will heal you in the end. The track opens up with the most beautiful acoustic guitar being played. I was immediately hooked as slow but vibey instrumentals are my absolute favorite. Her vocals were also terrific, she sang so passionately at every single lyric. There wasn’t a moment where you couldn’t feel how deeply this song meant to her. Everything about this song was great but I really loved how vulnerable and honest it was. There was so many moments where I could relate to it, and I did not hesitate to add this song to my moody vibe’s playlist. While it’s a track about losing someone you love the mood was so inspiring. Hallie Marie is a singer/songwriter from Denver, Colorado. She is a brand-new artist to the music industry with her first release back in January titled “Indebted.” While she has only a few songs out right now they are all authentically her. In everything she creates she makes sure to add elements that not only her listeners can relate to but to also showcase her life experiences. Her music falls under that of the alternative indie/folk genre as she draws inspiration from artists like Billy Joel and Sufjan Stevens. I highly recommend listening to her brand-new song “Pure (Don’t You Still Remember?).” Be sure to also follow her social medias below and follow along to see what else this talented artist has for us next. - Review: "Something New" - Child
Life is all about experiencing new things. New experiences with relationships, cities, and careers shape all of us and push us towards growth. Even if these changes can be scary, they can also be exciting - offering you a chance to shed the old and welcome the new. Child's most recent song, "Something New", is extremely inspiring with both its melody and lyrics. The idea of the unknown that comes along with new changes can be worrisome to most people. Child accepts change and desires something new, but still accepts the past and "what has been", too. The lyrics "I don't wanna forget 'cause what has been is nothing to regret. I've simply grown so tired of all I know" sums up the song's meaning perfectly. Even with the experiences of the past, it's good not to focus on "what-ifs" and accept something new. "Something New" feels like a song that belongs on someone's playlist to their life. It also sounds like the kind of song you would hear during an aesthetic movie montage for a main character driving around with the sun out. You are immediately greeted by a groovy guitar sound at the start of the song and a steady, rhythmic beat. It picks up in tempo when Child's beautiful vocals come in, and creates a more livelier, vibey sound. At the pre-chorus, the beat seems to simmer down a bit, leaving room for Child's angelic vocals to take center stage. The dreamy tone of the pre-chorus becomes more upbeat again during the chorus. The chorus is extremely catchy, with lyrics and a sound that feels inspiring and hopeful. In its entirety, "Something New" is an undeniably addicting song that you find yourself vibing along to. Child is a young Bernese singer-songwriter who creates beautiful music that is a perfect blend of indie, folk, and pop. All of her songs have relatable lyrics that divulge the ups and downs of life. Child's debut EP was released in November 2021. It featured the song "Draw the Line", which was chosen by SRF3 Radio as the "Song of the Day". Since then, the song has continued to be on the radio program. In August 2023, Child received a big achievement with the Music Loft Award! Child has also been working on multiple collaborations with other talented artists like Luca Aprile and Elija Tamou . Additionally, she has been working with various producers and recording new songs that she plans to release in 2025 or 2026. Child has done a support show for Asgéir (at Mühle Hunziken) and Shem Thomas, and will be having more projects and performances to come in 2025! - Review: "don't you wait" - AVARA
AVARA released her latest single “don’t you wait” on May 31, 2025. While this song has the most amazing beats, I have ever heard it also tells a beautiful story about love. Waiting for someone to be the person you know they can be may feel like such a long time. There are so many things that go into the process. While we can’t force someone to be a completely different person, we can show them the potential they have. We can show them that although it may be scary to venture outside of their comfort zone it may just be well worth the wait. Waiting around for someone is never the answer because almost always they never change their ways. But letting them know they have help may just be the solution they are looking for. “don’t you wait” starts off with a chest thumping beat that quickly grabs your attention. Her vibrant yet dreamy vocals follow instantly as the track opens. I seriously could not have added this song to my everyday listening playlist faster. The sounds throughout this entire track were full of so much energy and life. Pairing with the sounds were the instrumentals, while I loved everything about this song from her lyrics to her vocals right down the sounds. The instrumentals were so ear catching and soothing with a soulful saxophone solo and steady but soft drums going off. You can’t listen to this song and not want to just immediately get up and dance. The talented AVARA is a 20-year-old singer/songwriter. She released her first single in August of 2024 titled “lose my mind.” With just three singles out since last year she has already accumulated over 12,000 monthly listeners. Her songs have a great amount of energy making her an all-around praised artist. Her latest release “don’t you wait” is a dance pop track with elements of afrobeats and the most beautiful saxophone being played. I highly recommend listening to this song as well as her other singles as they are outstanding! Don’t forget to follow her social medias down below and never miss out on another wonderful track. This song, crafted with the lover-pop energy, is all you will need to listen to in order to feel those feels! This song is very fresh and poppy, that has a ton of elements that create such a beautiful track. The guitar starts off great, giving a rock-edge to the instrumental. The drums give a clapping feel, easily giving listeners something to dance to. There is a ticking during the bridge that counts down to the chorus, giving a great release. The vocals are whiny, adding to the desperation of the message, creating such a cute vibe. The breaths add suspension, giving satisfying drops. - Review: "At What Cost" - Claire Larose
Claire Larose has given us a beautifully accurate depiction of how it feels to wrestle ourselves. "At What Cost" allows us to feel seen, we know we aren't alone. The wrestling we face within ourselves is often related to feeling like we're disappointing ourselves and those around us because we aren't living up to our full potential. Society tells us we have to meet certain requirements and expectations in order to be successful, but like the song says, "But at what cost?" One of my favorite lines from the song further paints this image when it says, "I've been working five jobs / No sleep / People think I'm crazy lately / They say I'm in too deep / But I wouldn't change a thing / I've been driving everywhere / to get where I want to be." We can see the struggle of the artist, who's being told that it's not worth it. While also seeing the dedication and determination of the artist and that's what makes it so beautiful. The tone of the song is rather introspective and bittersweet. There's an urgency behind all of it, she's working through all the emotional sacrifice that she's had to make in order to be where she is now. When you take a deeper look at the song you find that the mood is rather melancholic with a small hint of wistfulness. While the overall point of the song is sad, the determination and courage of the artist makes it easy to dream. The instrumentation throughout the song adds a level of depth, especially when the lyrics are factored in. We hear a mix of subtle piano, drums, and occasional swells of the base guitar. All of these elements blend together, taking the lyrics from simple, basic wording to deep emotional connection for all listeners. Claire Larose is a singer-songwriter from London, Ontario, Canada.
