- Review: "Braver" - Camille K
Philadelphian singer-songwriter Camille K is back with her fourth single of 2025, “Braver.” “Braver” is a gorgeous string-led ballad of reminiscing about the what-ifs in a relationship. The question of whether things would work out if I were brave enough to ask you out is one that many can relate to, and Camille captures those sentiments within the track beautifully. Her poetic vulnerability in the lyrics is universally appealing. Whether you’ve been in that exact situation or not, you completely feel what Camille is singing about while listening to “Braver.” The track is honest and heartfelt. “Braver,” much like so many of Camille’s works, is a moving piece of acoustic pop. “Braver” is a tender song. From both the songwriting and production, the track carries this flowery, gentleness. The instrumental, produced by Dirty Harry Zelnick, Lectriq, and M11SON, is a beautiful blend of orchestral strings and modern lo-fi R&B beats. What results is a song that sounds like it could come from a Disney film. Camille’s delivery is both delightfully soothing and emotionally weighty. When singing lines like “You sent me a message I saved it, wonder if I had been braver,” there are stacks of angelic harmonies that still convey the moving lyrics behind it. “Braver” is a track that sounds delicate yet leaves a strong impact. Camille K. is a singer-songwriter who needs no introduction. Her viral performance of her original track “Still in Love,” on America’s Got Talent received mass acclaim from the judges and audiences alike. She has opened for such talents as Flo Rida, Ja Rule, and Chris Kirkpatrick. Camille’s sound takes from various inspirations, from modern pop to R&B to acoustic to soul, her music focuses on storytelling and authenticty over any one particular sound. For that reason, Camille has such a mass appeal. Fans of artists from Ariana Grande to Clairo would find lots to love in her discography. For such a short career, Camille has already seen massive success. On Spotify, she has over 500,000 streams, and her music has even been included in movies like Finding Christmas. Camille’s career is one to continue looking out for, and you can listen to “Braver” on all streaming services now. - Review: "I Get It Now" - Jazzy Dale
Jazzy Dale has released her new single, “I Get It Now.” With the rush of having someone see you for how you truly are against a production straight out of the 2000s, Dale has listeners falling in love with this song. With no “need to be naked,” the free-fall feeling of growing a crush on somebody quickly has Dale realizing that this feeling is what people talk about in the movies. Timbaland inspired, “I Get It Now” feels like a song meant to be set against a montage of first kisses, late-night dates in the city, and the feeling of everything clicking into place. While the feeling is terrifying, Dale encapsulates the electrifying feeling of falling for someone somewhat quickly in “I Get It Now.” Right up there with Cry Me A River, Maneater, and more, production on “I Get It Now” is an ode to the many iconic Timbaland-produced hits of the 2000s, and it’s an ode done right. Catchy with a beat that can soundtrack a night out, Dale hits the nail on the head when it comes to an infectious inferno of a song. While the production was definitely the standout of the song for me, I also cannot get over Dale’s vocals on “I Get It Now.” Carrying out a stand-out performance, Dale’s voice fits perfectly with this type of production and it’s clear that she is going to have listeners, both new and old, on the edge of their seats waiting for more after “I Get It Now,” myself included. Jazzy Dale is an up-and-coming singer hailing from Sydney and Eora. Focusing on R&B and pop, Dale’s discography is filled with hit after hit, including “Masquerade,” “Rich Boy,” and “Desperate.” While this may be only her tenth addition to her widening discography, Dale handles the microphone with ease, filling rooms with candid lyrics and five-part harmonies. With inspirations like Doechii, Jorja Smith, and Raye, it’s no wonder Dale has been making hit after hit with her music. With over 12,000 monthly listeners on Spotify, it’s clear Dale isn’t slowing down anytime soon. - Review: "Promise Ring" - Kat Brix
Kat Brix’s “ Promise Ring ” sweetens heartbreak with the same love that changing seasons show us. We want to grow by someone’s side, but growth means change. Brix shows this maturity when she sings, “ It’s not your fault.” We find a new rhythm, a new pattern, a new beat to walk to. But sometimes that means we’re not walking by our partner’s side. Aspirations and goals we pick up can drag us further from the person we once wanted a life with. Brix approaches this ending with an appreciation for the past, the moments shared, and how her ex-partner changed her. The love isn’t gone, but it takes on a new form. The harmonic humming pulls you in like wind catching leaves in a swirling rotation. The focus on the layers feels like a telepathic exchange of her emotions, like a choir singing a sacred song. She sings like Charli XCX, Tove Lo, and MØ—with a voice that makes life feel like a party no matter the circumstance. The melancholic chord progression creates a comforting space to stop, pause, and observe the change. It’s a space to reminisce the presence of a partner felt like warm sunrays and to embrace a new pattern. The build-up to the chorus feels like a flashing, flickering reel of memories with the beat drop—each one a space for joy. But change is the most natural thing. Keeping the promise ring signifies this acceptance and the love engraved in it. Kat Brix is a Danish singer who writes electric music to let loose on the dance floor. Her debut single, “ In Love with a Psycho ,” is a step into the club with strobe lights and good vibes. The bass and house beat push worries away, as if heartbreak is no match for her. She finds something to celebrate in each experience. “ Make It On My Own ” shows the strength she aspires to share with her fans. The snares and hi-hats blast with the speed of a bullet train, powering adrenaline. Her latest release, “ Promise Ring, ” finds a life within loss. - Review: "Shotgun" - Aiko
Are you ready to be BLOWN AWAY? Aiko’s newest release, “Shotgun”, is giving big-stepping energy that will do so! No matter how hard we can be on ourselves, we need to remember that we ARE those queens/kings that can own the room in a minute! This song can turn that switch on and have you feeling confident in ease. For me personally, I felt like a boss after having this on repeat getting ready for a late-night outing. This song captures that feeling and gives a bold outlook, title included, on how to shoot them down. Strut, pose, and own yourself with this hit! This song is part of Aiko’s interactive project, “Bonbonniere”, where fans vote on what song is coming out next, and once the polls are in, the song is released the following month. There is a pre-save link that gets sent out, and on release day, it automatically turns into a streaming link! While that’s pretty cool on its own, I need to touch on the epic instrumental within “Shotgun”. Right off the bat, the clapping drums make it seem like heels clacking down a hallway, already giving that boss energy. Followed by the thumping bass and Aiko’s flowy vocals, the song starts to weave into a force that cannot be reckoned with. The energy is brought on by the electric guitar, accompanied by many cool synths that add more the the electric-pop vibe. What really completes this song though is the different sounds effects, like the cocking of the gun at various points and the light bell during the chorus. The song os truly an energy boost to have listeners feel confident and beautiful! Aiko is a London-based yet Moscow-born and Czech Republic-raised singer and songwriter. This mix of cultures and influences is reflected on the unique blend of Akko’s music, with the atmosphere, dream vibes, and energy. She started her career with an appearance on TV show, “Superstar”. Following that, she released her debut self-titled album in 2015. This led to success, with interviews, radio plays, and press mentions paving the way for her to make her mark. With many live performances, festivals, and even representing the Czech Republic at the Eurovision Song Contest 2024 , Aiko was taking audiences’ hearts. - Review: "Mean Something" - Filiah
Emitting the feeling that it knows you as well as you know yourself, “Mean Something” from artist Filiah feels like a missing puzzle piece of emotion that you’ve finally found after endless searching. “Mean Something” depicts the story of a split, once-was relationship that still clings to Filiah, showcasing the struggle of having remaining romantic feelings toward an ex-partner as well as the fight with oneself to determine the current meaning of this connection. While Filiah battles with herself to understand the situation and where they stand now, the emotion behind “Mean Something” explodes in sound. While “Mean Something” carries an indie, alternative, relaxed vibe in its scaled-back, casual guitar and slow drumbeat, Filiah adds emphasis in her voice and the backing track when it appears as though she is speaking directly to her ex-partner. The line, “I always feel what you feel”, seems almost as if it’s an entirely different message than the lines above, showcasing her intense feelings toward this person rather than reflecting on the impact of the breakup on her. The earlier lines above transition from discussion of Filiah feeling like a “daydream”, a “failure”, or a “ghost”, to ultimate questions of what this situation now truly means for them. Still left with questions about their relationship and why she was left for someone else, Filiah lets her emotions play out throughout the track as she examines what to do for both of them moving forward, as they continue to struggle to understand how to let one another go. “Mean Something” takes descriptive, intricate details and uses them to bring a song to the table that feels as though you’re reading a novel or watching a film. The track begins with Filiah detailing that time has passed since this connection was split, but that time hasn’t washed away the pain left behind. “I guess I haven’t forgiven, just forgot” showcases just how deep and confusing this hurt is, as Filiah explores how to now navigate this situation with no help but her own. By the chorus, “Mean Something” has taken on a whole new meaning with a message that is pointed both in the way it sounds and is written. Lines such as, “I knew you better than you did” and “I knew you’d let it happen” pack punches that you feel in your chest, and properly show the depth of this relationship without needing to give more insight. While they may say one thing, upon examination lines like these tell the audience that there’s much more that meets the eye (or, in this case, ear), and that this relationship is deep and impactful. Reminding me of the sound and emotion within songs such as “Silver Springs” by Fleetwood Mac and “Pushing It Down and Praying” by Lizzy McAlpine, “Mean Something” is a force of well-crafted songwriting and a combination of pop & indie excellence that takes a negative situation and turns it into another world for listeners to explore. Filiah is an Austrian indie-folk artist. Weaving intimate storytelling and delicate arrangements together, Filiah describes her music as “indie folk with a glittery sparkle of pop”. Raised by a single mother immersed in and loving of music, Filiah started her music journey from her mother’s car where they would partake in daily “carpool karaoke” sessions. During challenging times, she found a safe & sacred space with her mother through these rides where they would dive into Fleetwood Mac, David Bowie, Diana Krall, etc. From an early age, Filiah began diving into the world of music and found her voice, putting on shows for her mother who encouraged and helped her. By the time she became a teenager, Filiah was laying groundwork for her eclectic musical journey through an obsession with Paramore to now being inspired by artists like Phoebe Bridgers, boygenius, and St. Vincent. Now, Filiah aims with her music to create songs where it feels as though you’re in a “little home where you’re understood and cared for”. - Concert Review: Emlyn Single Release Show in Los Angeles
Emlyn via themoroccan.com * Emlyn completely rocked the stage at her headlining single release show in Los Angeles. She captivated the audience from the moment she stepped on stage. Her infectious smile and down-to-earth personality enhanced the already intimate atmosphere of The Moroccan Lounge. Heading into the show, I knew it was going to be one of the best live performances I had seen. My husband even said in the car, "With a voice like hers, this is going to be badass." And he was absolutely right. Emlyn kicked off the show with the track "hotter than me." The fiery song matched the electric energy of the crowd. Everyone was singing along to every word while simultaneously mesmerized by the singer's impeccable vocals. Throughout the set, she continued to surprise me with her powerful high notes and vocal range. Just a few days before the show, her guitarist fell sick and had to back out. Emlyn had to pivot to a backing track-only show, but with her professionalism and talent, you would think she had a full band production supporting her. Emlyn is an absolute powerhouse singer, on par with the strongest vocalists in music - Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood. Both artists I have seen live, and only Emlyn has been able to match the power and vocal control of these two American Idols. Emlyn singing encore track, "god sent me as karma." Her talent was not the only thing that stood out to me. Emlyn's authenticity made her a delight to watch in person. Her radiance shined through the crowd, and she made every single person feel seen, through her relatable storytelling to her charismatic personality. She had everyone hanging onto her every word as she shared the background on her songs. She had a magical way of making the night feel like a casual conversation with close friends. Emlyn performing "rapunzel." Emlyn is a true professional and superstar in the making. This show was originally scheduled for June 14th. Unfortunately, it had been postponed due to the protests in L.A., resulting in a curfew for the neighborhood. When it was canceled, Emlyn immediately went online to address it candidly. I appreciate the singer using her platform to stand up for the rights of people in our community. Emlyn chose to reschedule the show for August 30th - her birthday. This made the show even more special. Her supporting act, Elli Moore, and a team member came on stage with a cake to lead everyone in singing "Happy Birthday." It was a cute, endearing surprise that the audience could tell made Emlyn's night. The crowd singing "Happy Birthday" to Emlyn. Despite the celebratory date change, Emlyn was hit with another curveball when her guitarist got sick the week of the concert. However, like the professional she is, she knew the show must go on. So she switched up the setlist and chose to do two cover songs with just her and the keyboard. She sang two of my childhood favorites, "Because of You" by Kelly Clarkson and "White Horse" by Taylor Swift. Covering Kelly Clarkson is no small feat, but Emlyn blew it out of the water with her phenomenal voice. And as a die-hard Swiftie since 2006, it is hard to impress me with covers, and yet, Emlyn left me with chills. This just goes to show that she is a master of many trades, not just her own. Emlyn performing "Because of You" by Kelly Clarkson. After the show, I had the privilege of meeting Emlyn. She came out to meet with her dad, whom I had happened to befriend in line, and I had the opportunity to share a few words and snap a picture with her. She is immensely humble and kind. She treated me like an old friend, saying, "It's nice to have a girly like you in the front." She cracked a couple of jokes, extending her magnetic presence beyond the stage. After watching her perform and meeting her, I am even more proud to call myself an Emlyn fan and cannot recommend her enough. If you have a chance to see her live, jump at the opportunity. - Review: "The Girl Next Door" - Chloe Sofia
Photo Credits: Pm2media Artist Chloe Sofia comes to us with a new single, "The Girl Next Door," a youthful alt-rock track that follows the story of not being picked by someone because they don't follow the "sweet girl" archetype. It's a spunky anthem that comes across as empowering for those who have felt rejected for our true personalities. Chloe Sofia includes so much dramatic flare in "The Girl Next Door" and it only increases the fun factor on this track. What makes "The Girl Next Door" such a great coming-of-age anthem is that these feelings of being the kind of girl the guy doesn't choose are a part of growing up. It's a classic tale that never gets old, because so many of us can connect to it. As soon as the song begins you feel transported into a film. The guitars match this style well as they have classic indie tone to them. As the story begins, you can immediately see how Chloe Sofia is trying to be emotionally vulnerable and silly at this same time. She makes sure to show some of her insecurities while also poking fun at this new relationship. While this song does portray some self-doubt, the humor aspect adds more to the confidence factor. What also adds to the drama factor is the song feels as if it's always building up on itself. The story's journey does feel very physical as it's so easy to follow in the steps as the speaker. It's nice to see someone so unapologetically themselves, it's an image audiences love to see in an artist. Additionally, this indie/alternative rock style really fits Chloe Sofia and it would be really interesting to see her fully immerse herself in this genre. Overall, "The Girl Next Door" does a great character study of what kind of artist Chloe Sofia can be and excites you enough to be curious about what else she is capable of accomplishing. Chloe Sofia is a young singer and songwriter who is starting out her career with so much energy. Her debut single "Pulse" was released this year in April and it has already accumulated over 15,000 streams on Spotify. "The Girl Next Door" is her second release, and based on these two tracks audiences are starting to get a good idea of her musical style. Her music could be categorized in the pop rock/alt-rock style, similar to artists like Olivia Rodrigo. For someone so young, she does a great job at being emotionally vulnerable as most people her age try to play things like this as cool as possible. Young artists like Chloe Sofia are exciting because they don't shy away from emotional topics. Listening to Chloe Sofia reminds you of what it was like to be young and full of so many conflicting emotions, in a good way. - Review: "Your Lover" - David Vogel
“The chase” is sometimes part of getting into a relationship. It’s the back-and-forth, the will-they-won’t-they, that keeps some folks interested and wanting more– but what happens when the chase is finally over? David Vogel’s latest single “Your Lover” describes exactly that, and how certain people only care for the chase, and not being caught. But when you’re the one doing the chasing, it feels like you’re stuck in limbo, constantly wondering when you are actually their lover. Filled with catchy hooks and a killer soundscape, “Your Lover” is the perfect blend of introspection and pop. It’s enough to make you think about your own relationships– especially the ones where you were chasing the person– and plenty to make you dance and sing along. If you love songs that give you a reason to reflect and party, then “Your Lover” is going to be the one for you. There is nothing I want to do more when listening to “Your Lover” than dance. It’s a seriously catchy song that’ll absolutely have you grooving wherever you are– the soundscape is packed full of personality and loads of sonic layers that creates this fantastic track for moving. The song was actually completely produced by Vogel himself, with him playing all the guitars, keys, drums, and doing vocals– except the lyrics, which were written alongside Vogel’s long-time collaborator Nick Gamble. It’s hard to describe the soundscape as anything but genuine and honest; I especially love the song’s percussion, which applies just the perfect amount of intensity to the track. As for the lyrics, there’s just so much to adore about “Your Lover.” The song really hones in on the back-and-forth nature of chasing a person, though it flips when it turns out that the narrator’s lover is actually their lover– but only when they’re sober. That fact brings another dimension to the song’s story, revealing that there might truly be a genuine connection, but the lover only really cares for that chase. “Your Lover” is everything you’d ever want out of a pop song: fantastic lyricism and a soundscape you just have to dance to. David Vogel is a singer-songwriter who comes from a long line of musicians. His musical journey began when he started playing drums in a youth group at age 11, and his interest grew from there. He eventually started a band called JADN with his brother and friends, which went on to produce the album City Skies and the EP A Futile Attempt . And you may also know him from The Voice Season 21, which he says was a “wonderful opportunity to meet other artists, learn, and gain insight into [his] potential.” Vogel is now pursuing music as a solo artist, having released a series of singles since 2022. His debut track is “breathin”, with songs i sang on that tv show as his 2023 debut EP. “Your Lover” is Vogel’s latest release. If you loved “Your Lover”, be sure to drop him a follow to keep up with his soon-to-be-named seven-song EP that is now in the works! - EP Review: "LOOK AT ME" - Aashika Reddy
Making cultural waves in the mainstream music world, Aashika Reddy has dropped her debut EP, "LOOK AT ME". “I want to be the brown girl pop star I didn’t have growing up... This project is bigger than music - it’s a cultural statement. There’s no one else doing what I’m doing, and this release is just the beginning..." - Aashika Reddy TRACKLIST 3 STEPS LOOK AT ME time machine Want it NOBODY BUT YOU luving u blind Aashika Reddy is a singer/songwriter based in Toronto, Canada with South Asian roots. Currently only 17 years old, Aashika wants to be the rare representation for young girls like her within the mainstream pop music world, while also taking influence from other popular genres such as RnB, trap, house, Afrobeat, and nods to traditional Carnatic tones in there as well. Aashika officially started releasing music in 2023 with her first ever single, "Issues". Since then, she's been leading up to this moment of debuting her first ever EP. Aashika loves to write about the relatable things every teenager needs to hear, from love and heartbreak, to just trying to figure yourself out. Aashika hopes to inspire more South Asian voices to step into the spotlight of pop music. “These songs are for brown girls who’ve never seen themselves in this space, for chaotic romantics who vent in their notes app and dance in their room, and for anyone who’s ever felt ‘too much’ - and learned to love that about themselves.” - Aashika Reddy 3 STEPS We begin the EP with "3 STEPS". This song is about recognizing that you did something wrong to hurt someone, and wanting to do anything and everything to make it right, even though now it might be too late. The best way to describe this song is perfectly chaotic. The groove, instrumentation and production beautifully match the emotion of the lyrics. You can hear the panic and the moment when the realization sets in that Aashika is never getting this person back. There's so much pain and distortion as the song progresses. It starts as a simple, classic, glimmering RnB song and builds into a rockier, dystopian and experimental experience. Aashika sings beautifully throughout it all, like she's talking right to this person, just pleading for everything to be okay. Her falsetto is angelic, and by the end of the song you're just grasping at your heart, whether it's in empathy for her or if you can personally relate to this situation. LOOK AT ME Next we have the title track, "LOOK AT ME". Have you ever been able to look someone in the eye and just know that their lying to you? They're saying everything you want to hear, but their eyes tell a different story. "LOOK AT ME" is about knowing that your man is messing around with someone else, but they don't want to admit it. Although the topic is heavy, the song itself is a whole bop. The beat is heavy with tons of RnB influence in the groove, but keeping it pop at the same time. The melody is especially catchy with syncopation in its rhythm. Aashika shows off vocally, reminding me a bit of Ariana Grande behind her tone. time machine "time machine" is a beautifully tragic, stripped-down ballad. Featuring mostly piano and muted drums, "time machine" uses classic RnB influence with blues chords to create an emotional soundscape for Aashika to sing her heart out across. So far, "time machine" has the most poetic, vulnerable and heartbreaking lyrics I've seen from Aashika. This song is about being in love with someone who is not ready to fully commit to you. You keep sitting and waiting for them to tell you it's time to finally be together, for real and for good, but it never happens. The pain just makes time drag on even longer, and you wish you could just fast forward through it all - even if it means you have to move on. Want it Taking a full 180 from the last track, "Want it" is a fun and playful song about running into someone completely irresistible. They've got such a special way about them that you've lost all control of who you usually are - and you will do anything to make them yours. "Want it" has an upbeat, nostalgic rhythm with a funky bass. It will have you wanting to move and groove. NOBODY BUT YOU Have you ever been with someone who is all about you, and you're all about them? At this point in knowing them, you couldn't imagine ever having a life without them? That's what "NOBODY BUT YOU" is about - loving someone so endlessly and unconditionally, that it's actually terrifying to even think about ever leaving their side. The soundscape of this song sounds straight out of the club. It has a Carnatic influenced beat to add some cultural flare, with a production that is pumping and electronic. During the hook, Aashika sings with a vocoder, adding another cool layer of electro-pop flare. luving u blind The outro song is the short and sweet track, "luving u blind". With a smooth groove and a raw instrumentation, Aashika sings of loving someone who isn't good for her, but she couldn't see any of the lies or toxicity that was happening right in front of her. This is a very common thing that happens to a lot of people who fall in love, and it's called seeing through rose colored glasses. We so desperately want to believe that what we have is good, that we can't see the bad. The song gently ends with a soft electric guitar riff, drums and reverb. "LOOK AT ME" is a brilliant and beautiful debut work from Aashika Reddy. At such a young age still, you would never know from the maturity of her voice and lyrics that she is only 17 years old. Not only that, but the determination to step up and represent South Asian women in mainstream music is so incredibly inspiring. She said it herself that this is still only the beginning, and if this is what she can already do now at 17, I can't wait to hear what is yet to come. - Review: "airplane mode" - Yorke
"Airplane mode" is Yorke's admitted favorite track off her newly released EP, Unfinished Business . The single is the opener for the EP, which Yorke explains sets the tone for the songs that follow, " It’s [airplane mode] almost like this pipe dream of wanting to feel nothing, and then love on the run comes in and you’re swept straight back into the story of finding someone when you least expect it." Yorke shares that the ultra-danceable pop song was written about a yearning to turn off her emotions for a time as a "highly empathetic" person. Co-written in Los Angeles, the song was written in just a few hours. Yorke said about the writing process, "it was just one of those days where everything feels very alive in the room." The pulsing beat and hyper-pop-adjacent production of "airplane mode," particularly in its chorus, creates a wonderful juxtaposition between the heartfelt, earnest lyricism and unrestrained, creative soundscape. Using a myriad of unique instrumental sounds, such as the piano accordion, gives the single a vibrant musical composition heard from start to finish. Yorke's self-aware, rapidly delivered lyrics mesh perfectly with the upbeat, bouncing musical background. Making use of plentiful track layering, the song commands attentive listening. The energetic surges of sound at work in "airplane mode" mirror the adrenaline of a boxing match, which is the locale of the song's music video, shot in Tokyo at a local boxing gym. The 27-year-old Australian pop artist known as Yorke, Grace Hughes off-stage, has just announced her headlining tour of Australia's east coast beginning in November. The past year, Yorke has been busy releasing an E P, touring across the globe, and making her first trip to Japan, where she was invited to support and perform with indigo la End at their sold-out Tokyo show at the International Forum Hall. She has been writing music for over a decade, garnering almost 100,000 monthly Spotify listeners since first releasing her music in 2019. With the release of unfinished business comes a new era of musicianship for Yorke, who is quickly establishing herself as one of Australia's dynamic, young pop stars on the rise. - Review: "sunburn" - Katherine Cordova
Photography: Katherine Cordova & Sophie Simon Cyanotype Print: Katherine Cordova “sunburn” is the newest single from Katherine Cordova, a song about a true love that won’t quit. Summer vibes are exuded all throughout the lyrics as Cordova sings about a significant other that she can’t help but always come back to, because the love they have for each other is just too strong. She feels better around this person and lovestruck for them, and they remind her of better times. Just with the title and lyrics alone, “sunburn” defines itself as a summer anthem of perfection, encapsulated in the idea of love and loss, and the feelings you experience when you know you’ve fallen in love with the one. Pairing well with the lyrics, the production style of “sunburn” is upbeat and gives off vibes of being the song of the summer. Easy listening and pop are combined to create this sound that is consistent throughout the song, supplemented by the Y2K-inspired drums and acoustic guitar chords. Cordova also has an amazing and distinct singing voice that is perfect for a song like this. Altogether, “sunburn” flawlessly crosses the threshold between pop and alternative music, while still having its own original sound. Vibes of nostalgia bounce off the lyrics and reflect them, as both the lyrics and production exude feelings of love. Katherine Cordova is an independent singer/songwriter originally from the Bay Area but is now based in Los Angeles, California. She began her own music career in January 2022 at the age of 18 in her senior year of high school with the release of her debut single “I Love You Even Still, Even Now”. She has also released the incredible songs “Blue Light”, “Afraid of the Dark”, and “know you now”, before releasing “sunburn”. Later that day, a sparky orange and green countdown appears on Taylor’s website ending at 12:12 am on August 12th. However, the cover was blurred with an orange lock edited on top, and a clip was posted of the soon-to-be-released podcast episode with Taylor holding the vinyl that was also blurred out. The podcast released the next day on the 13th, where Taylor discusses the album and its inspirations. The vibe of this album is glitzy and glamorous, but details Taylor’s personal life behind the showgirl we saw onstage at The Eras Tour. The album artwork, featured on 6 different limited edition CD and vinyls in addition to the original cover, is reminiscent of old Hollywood showgirls. All the photos feature Taylor drenched in jewels and sparkles, adorned with dark, sultry eye looks and her signature red lip. On the podcast, she reveals she picked the standard edition cover photo because it’s exactly how she ended her nights on The Eras Tour - in a bathtub. She wrote this album all while on the European leg of The Eras Tour, traveling to Sweden to work with producers Max Martin and Shellback on her off days. There are 12 tracks on the album: “The Fate of Ophelia”, “Elizabeth Taylor”, “Opalite”, “Father Figure”, “Eldest Daughter”, “Ruin the Friendship”, “Actually Romantic”, “Wi$h Li$t”, “Wood”, “CANCELLED!”, “Honey”, and “The Life of a Showgirl (feat. Sabrina Carpenter”. Although Taylor has been known to release deluxe tracks after an initial release (and in The Tortured Poet’s Department ’s case, a second album), Taylor explicitly stated on the podcast that there will be no extra tracks released for the album. In talking about the feelings that inspired the album, Taylor described her life at the time as “exuberant, electric, and vibrant”, and she felt like she was “catching lightning in a bottle” while working with Max Martin and Shellback. She details that there are no filler tracks - each one is there for a specific purpose and “you couldn’t take one out and it be the same album” - and it was crafted to be just right. Her focus in creating this album was on quality over quantity, which she admits has been her focus on other albums. The Life of a Showgirl drops on all platforms on October 3rd.
