An Affair to Remember has withstood time and cemented itself as one of the greatest romance movies in American cinematic history. Rightfully so; who doesn’t like a love story about two soulmates destined to find each other regardless of the circumstances they face? Some of us can only dream for an unconditional love that knows no bounds and is willing to wait. While the 1957 film certainly holds up better than most movies of the era, it still might be indigestible for some movie-goers. But thankfully we have artists like Gabi DeMartino to pay respect to these iconic stories of the past by modernizing it for a new generation to enjoy and become enamored with it. DeMartino’s latest single, “Heaven”, is not only a reimagining of An Affair to Remember, but beckons listeners to envision their own personal heaven. “Heaven” is a dream-pop single that highlights the idea of paradise being distinctive to each individual person. Simply put, your view of heaven might greatly differ from another’s. The single opens with ethereal chimes and background harmonization - invoking the idealistic image of angels greeting you at the pearly gates. It also signifies that what’s to unfold within the confines of the song is DeMartino’s conceptualization of paradise. The first verse lays out how our artist lives in a continuous state of stress and scrutiny, but the presence of a particular person assuages their troubled mind. It’s one of the many reasons that’s led them to fall for this person. But our artist is living in “fight or flight” because they’re abiding by others’ ideas and expectations of how they should live. Harrisen Larner-Main weaves a relatable tale in his new single, "Stubborn." The track explores the feelings of losing a connection with someone due to distance or wrong circumstances. The chorus is incredibly catchy and leaves room for you to have fun with it even as it discusses a difficult subject. The song's energy is able to keep this topic lighthearted with the way that sounds, and that’s an interesting aspect of it. The background vocals towards the end of the chorus especially contribute to the positive lighthearted nature the track manages to maintain. As the song continues, the speaker in the track talks about not wanting to lose that friendship with the person they dated, and it creates this nice message. Etham’s songwriting abilities are really highlighted in the song as he tells the story of this past relationship. “Guilty” by Etham is a wonderful track that stands away from the usual depressing breakup songs and brings an opposing positive light we usually never see. It's no debate that the world we live in now-a-days revolves around technology. Most of us are very guilty of spending the majority of the day staring at a screen. Although the song is light-hearted and humorous, it's still sending out an important message about the toxic culture of social media. "Radio" is a pop track through-and-through. It has a beat and groove that stays consistent and makes you want to dance. Charlotte has the most perfect, bright and angelic vocal tone for an upbeat pop anthem like this. The production quality is highly noticeable, and funny enough, it sounds like a song that belongs on the radio. The style is very reminiscent of early 2010's commercial pop and reminds me of the likes of Carly Rae Jepsen mixed with Katy Perry.
